Fixtures in Scotland face possible postponement next weekend with Category One referees voting to strike.

 

Scottish match officials are upset with the avalanche of criticism that has come their way this season.

 

The decision to take strike action was reached at a referees' union meeting held on Sunday afternoon.

 

There are four top flight fixtures scheduled for next Saturday, with two more on Sunday. There is also a full card in the Scottish Football League.

 

The ALBA Challenge Cup final between Queen of the South and Ross County at McDiarmid Park is also under threat, as will any Scottish Cup replays.

 

BBC Scotland has learned that officials are concerned that their integrity is constantly being questioned and there are increasing fears over personal safety as a result of public criticism from managers and the media.

 

Scottish Premier League referees threatened to strike over pay in 2008 but the threat was lifted when a review was set up to study their wage demands.

 

Last month, Hamilton manager Billy Reid warned that he would understand if referees were to refuse to officiate because of the excessive criticism directed at them.

 

The Scottish Football Association are not commenting on the matter, with a spokesman saying they have not had any official notification of the planned strike.

It would seem there's no going to be any fitba as the refs seem hell bent on "making a point". The "point" I would take is that they feel even more self important and the centre of attention than they ever have the right to be or should be.

I'm pretty sure with a stronger ref, it'd have been closer. probably 4-1...

To be fair you're right. I believe Mackie had a quality goal chalked off for offside that was actually on. Still - generally I felt the standard of offciating was much higher.

I remember very little of the match, being the drunkest I've ever been at a match but what I do remember was the ref being very shite towards us and the highlights giving that view some credibility. That said, the keeper didn't help but not being in any way as good as them in general didn't either.

5 Live seemed to be suggesting that all SPL games and the Alba final would definitely be going ahead, yet Radio Scotland don't seem to have a clue what is happening

Scotland's referees will today tell the Scottish Football Association that they will not call off their planned weekend strike, but Dutch referees are poised to ensure that the six Scottish Premier League fixtures and the ALBA Challenge Cup final will go ahead. (Daily Record)

 

 

Aparently the Alba Cup Final is the only game that's guaranteed to go ahead.

STV and Herald confirming games to go ahead in SPL and Alba cup this weekend.

 

Referees to be announced for each game at 3pm today.

 

SFL games may also go ahead.

I see the SPL games and Alba final are going to go ahead after the SFA rounded up a rag-tag bunch of refs from all over Europe to officiate.
