The Just In From The Match Thread...

Well not really, as I sat and watched it at home.  ;)

Disappointing start to the season, but not surprising given that we've only signed one player following the European exit/humiliation and that Celtic have invested for a title challenge. But still, 1-3 defeat is a poor result by any standards especially when you consider that the game was over before the half time whistle was blown.

Langfield, made some critical saves that could have seen a bigger goal margin. He flapped at a few crosses, but wasn't disasterous. I don't think there was much he could do for McGeady's second.

Duff at right back is just wrong. Mark please stop....now. He was severely lacking in tracking back and poses no challenge what so ever. By the time changes were made it was too late. Foster was industrious but he is of limited ability and it showed.

Diamond had one of his quieter matches and I think it will take a while to get the defence working as a unit. Ifil and Diamond should be a good pairing to build from providing they can work together.

Ifil had a decent debut. He did nothing outstanding but had a generally solid game. He brings strength and height to the defence which is needed, but I don't think distribution is a part of his game. The problems in our defence lie elsewhere.

Mulgrew had some decent crosses, corners, free kicks etc. I don't remember much else from him... fairly anonymous I'd say along with much of the rest of the team.

Miller, Mackie, McDonald, Kerr and Maguire all had a poor game and were largely invisible. It shows in the result. These players are responsible for leading the attack on the Celtic defence and they didn't trouble in the slightest. Whether that is in part due to good defensive work by Celtic or lack of effort or fitness by us I don't know. They just didn't seem motivated for this at all.

Paton was a welcome swap for Maguire and we looked to press after that. Celtic had almost given up at this point, but Paton did well. I thought Aluko had a good game and looks by far to be our fittest player, he looks stronger than last season too. He took his goal very well and gets my AFC MOTM.

On the whole, meh.  :-\

That baffles me, he was terrible today asides from the goal.

OK, I must remember to put my glasses on next Saturday  ;)

Was an absolute waste of space.Didnt do anything to help the back line Hinkel had the freedom to come forward without being tracked. Paton and Langfield were the only 2 players that got pass marks....Paton must start next week

You didn't rate The beast then?

he was quiet....he done the job

Agree wholeheartedly with that. Langfield, Aluko and Paton were superb in an otherwise completely inept performance from the Dons.

Do you either watch or type with your eyes shut? To claim anyone in a red shirt today was "superb" is ludicrous. On or two were half decent but none of them were any better and to suggest otherwise is insanity.

Yesterday was fucking horrendous. The first game I have ever left early. Men against boys for the most part and that first half was one of the worst performances by an Aberdeen team I have ever seen.

You can't have been to much games over the last 10 years then.

Apart from the past 2/3, you would be correct.

Inept. Awful. Shocking.

I'll be honest, the first half yesterday was awful, McGhee rightly looked disgusted with what he had just seen and as bad as the first half was I have seen worse, much worse infact, the Hamilton game last season away and the Gretna games the season before, much, much worse.

It's not a competition to see who's seen worse. The fact is, we were fucking stinking yesterday and if that doesn't worry you then there's something wrong.

Yes it is, it was worse than Jimmy!  ;)

Some good crosses from him today, but yet again he proved he's not a defender.  He was awful at the back.

Yip, he's either going to have to move into midfield again, otherwise get a defensive left midfielder in to cover for him - hopeless defender but great at deadball situations, a pretty frustrating situation

I was at Pittodrie yesterday and I can honestly say it wasn't the worst I have seen your team play. At some stages in the second half at 3-1 there was a fair few worried tims. Hope yez can pick it up though and do something half decent this season. Or even just humping the huns again would do me  ;)

Ignore him mate, thanks for your kind words, good to see you have a wee soft spot for the dons, wanting us to do well and that, hope you win the league mate, you are a much better footballing side this year and will hopefully rape the huns.

Also good luck for Tuesday.

hope you win the league mate

We'll beat the Huns for us, not for you Tattie Howkers.

Fuck off you patronising cunt. Go chat about the IRA on the huddleboard or something.

Moral high ground guys, don't rise to his potato obsessed cretinolus spewings!

It was his fucking fault we were so annoyed.  :hammer:

So it was McGhee's fault that he has Young, Duff, Maguire, Mackie and Considine in his squad? It was McGhee's fault that he couldn't afford his 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th choice signings?

Get a grip, min. We fielded an Aberdeen side that had lost three first-team players and gained only one. We happened to play the team that were not only pipped to the SPL title on the final day last season, but have spent close to eight figures hiring a Premiership-class manager and building a squad that they hope will NOT be beaten to the title this season.

At least McGhee figured out early doors that Duff was being skinned at every opportunity and decided to, firstly, move him up the park and, secondly, take him off completely. I doubt we'll see Duff play very much in the future tbh.
