Aberdeen v Kelty Hearts

On Saturday, our League Cup Group stage obligations come to an end as we warm up for pumping Hearts by hopefully pumping Hearts. It begins at 3:00 pm sharp at Pittodrie.

I fancy a 4-0 home win.

In for this one. Need a high scoring win to ensure we are seeded in the KO round.

Big score please. Wonder if we’ll see further changes. A chance for lobban as our actual right back?

I suspect Lobban will be third choice right back behind a new signing and a shoehorn.

Current competition for 3 seeded places are;

Montrose (+5 GD and playing Spartans at home)

St Mirren (+9 GD and playing Dunfermline at home)

Ayr (+5 and playing Alloa at home)

Looks like Montrose and Ayr could rack up a few goals and St Mirren have a tougher game but are already 3 ahead of our +6 GD.

Definitely going to need to stick at least 4 past Kelty without reply I suspect.

I think 3 would probably be enough to not have to worry what anyone else is doing but would defo prefer 4.

Had forgotten we had a game today. Folk thinking a manager who gave 1% of game time to young players at his previous club are kidding themselves that Robinson will give Lobban and Marshall game time. Need to score some goals today to ensure we get seeded for next round as others have said however not sure we will.

I saw that 1% stat and you have to wonder what is the point of a youth set up.

Game day, not really wanting to go, but ticket bought and being an Aberdonian, I'm not wasting my cash.

Not really buying into the Robinson revolution, but I'll see how it goes this season.

Hopefully the smoke off the fires, from the Cairngorms, has lifted from over the City today, was was stinking the place out yesterday.

What do we class as youth? Is it players who have come through the academy or players under a certain age? Pretty sure Bilalovic, KMK, Marshall and Lobban are all 20/21? When do they stop being youths and just being young players like signings? Just interested so I know who I need to be angry about and with over the course of the season πŸ€ͺ

I'd say players that come through the youth system, or those that we signed into the youth system for a season or two. Not Bilalovic or Kjartansson. The key is getting the transition from youth to first team. That's what the money goes into. I've said a hundred times that it needs to be enforced at director level, above the manager, with a quota that's transparent to the fans, and a request for patience while young players are integrated. Robinson's comments about them having to be better than their counterpart is unwelcome and unhelpful in my opinion. There needs to be a way to get young players bedded in, and an acceptance of mistakes and physical inferiority. We should have the experience surrounding them to cope with this. I accept that in a season of high turnover that's not that simple.

Rico, as usual, covers most points very well.

No point in wasting around Β£2 million, per year, churning out players for the lower/highland league teams.

If, as a club, we just want to sign average/below average SPL players, then fine, but just stop the pretence of saying they want to bring through youth.

The lad Marshall, couldn't have done much more, last season at Arbroath, but still not had any minutes in our cup games, so far.

I find that tragic and part of the bigger issue within our game.

Folk say most aren't good enough, which may well be the case, as most never go on to much after Aberdeen, but possibly they have become disillusioned with football.

I don't believe it is just an Aberdeen issue, but we should be capable of bringing through SPL standard players.

Well called that wrong Lobban starts.

So in an interesting plot twist re giving youth a chance, the lad is 15. Would he be our youngest ever player if he came on today?

Andrew Fasnaya – Forward

With the club since U12 level, lightning quick Andrew Fasanya comes into the full-time fold after initially appearing for the U18 side in August 2024 at just 13 years old. Capable of operating through the middle or in the wide areas, Fasanya has represented Scotland at youth level.

Opta (via the BBC) has it as a 4-4-2.

YASSSS!! 1-0

Dons need to cut this early goal nonsense out - missed last weeks one and barely got my stream going in time this time round to see us go 1-0 up. Not good enough.

Stream not coming through which is disappointing but what I saw on fawanews, other than penalty we have created very little

Too slow and nobody breaking them down
