Motherwell v Aberdeen (Premiership)

On Sunday 15th February, the Dons will be sailing down the road to Fir Park in Motherwell. It starts at 2:30 pm.

The game was moved because our players might have been knackered from the two games a week we had recently...

I fancy our rested players to have been working hard in training to learn the basics of football, and get a 2-2 draw.

I should add I saw enough to suggest we do have a chance in the cup tie. Definitely.

I suppose why not just say fuck it. Mitov has been poor, we had no right mid, center mids poor etc, just rip it up and start again.

def an element of season starts here. Just a mini season to experiment until the new gaffer starts.

I have no idea how that’s going to shape up.

I had to dial up AFC Heritage’s website to identify fa half the feckers are.

I think the last time I was this uncertain was when we played Celtic in January 66, and Turnbull played Ally Shewan at right back, and John McCormick (centre half) at left back, with some new-fangled midfield formation that I failed to understand.

We beat the green mob 3-1 though!

I am very old.

Fairly straightforward 4-2-3-2 I'm guessing. Be interesting to see how the two new midfielders get on. I suspect the defence might be a touch weak, but nothing new there. Not convinced that Olusanya is a wide player, but not many other options.

Personally I think the result will hinge on how well the two new midfielders settle 2bh

Squad number 99 can get tae.

Goalkeepers should wear 1, 23 or 30.

Ha! Least of my worries is the number. Can they all play??

keeper central defenders and center mids are the key to any team. If our center mids are legit them I think we’re good, time will tell!

Jaysus, that's an odd looking line up.

Let's see what happens.....

I’m certainly good with olusanya at right mid. Morris was mediocre but teach him to knock it on the outside and run and he was effective.
Very intrigued, no clue what to expect today!

He wasn't particularly good at that with St Mirren, his best work was balls over the top and harassing defenders, so hopefully we've spent two weeks training him to cut the ball back. The biggest problem will be his lack of defensive abilities. Not convinced he has the temperament to track his man.

Going to be interesting. Feels like anything could happen.

Rarely seen him play and you may well be right, but asking a guy to stay wide, kick it past a defender on the outside and run, isn’t complicated. Morris figured it out and he appeared to be a very low intellect player. I know I’m over simplifying, but at least it’s an option to explore.

I read Dons news/gossip every day and I've never heard o this McIntyre - fazzat?

Interesting that palaversa is on the bench over Armstrong…

Agreed. I just wonder if doing it from the start might mean us missing out on the chance to bring him on and do it later when others are knackered. The classic Morris issue!

Interesting to see if our central defenders win headers!

Tom McIntyre. Signed the other week in a short term deal.

First impressions, look decent in central defense, little from afeez, Geiger likes to get on the ball. Promising?

Decent enough start I would say. Do love that North sea kit

Geiger and McIntyre look decent, afeez starting to come into the game.

Unfortunate to be one down but defense not tight enough, understandably given it’s a very new back 4pluskeeper.

Agree with Willie, need a right mid who can defend. Goal has deflated us a bit, we weren’t bad until then. Cant lose a second before half time, bit ropey.

Geiger is a solid pro. Def think we got right mid wrong, esp with the ability of their left back. Expect a change there.

other than the 5 min wobble after the goal it hasn’t been bad. They’ve missed a couple of chances, but so have we. Still got to hold on until had.

afeez has been a little underwhelming.

I think we’ve been better in the air at the back, chance right at the end there from the free kick is more down to a bunch of players who haven’t played together and haven’t trained set pieces etc.

prior to their goal we looked decent in attack, nisbet unlucky with hitting the post/the save. Cameron hasn’t done much though, do we see palaversa in there and Geiger moves further forward? Or two up top??

I think McIntyre is decent but with both central defenders booked and their forward, a little worrying.

Good start,  topi back to his inconsistent self when chances came

Motherwell Just have better players and an to be able to cut us open at will.

Still in it though. Holding midfielder looks decent so far. Real concern is how we create a goal.

Lucky to only be one down and still in it. Can't see where we will get a goal from though and our defence as always gives me the fear. Different players same weak backbone.

Nisbet been good today, although he should probably steer clear of the defending. Midfield looks okay, although I think Geiger can do more going back the way. He doesn't seem to have the workrate of Aouchiche so far. Cameron been okay, as has Keskinen, but nothing brilliant from either of them. Jensen fine, Frame struggling defensively. McIntyre looks good positionally, but looks very slow on the turn, which could be a big issue. Not sure about Morrison at all. The right side is an issue. I'm not going to blame Olusanya entirely for that though. When we've played Bilalovic recently, the problems have been exactly the same. I was blaming Bilalovic for not tracking his man and being very narrow, but perhaps it's actually a tactic. It means giving one of their best players, Longelo, complete freedom to drive forward, which I think is a mistake. The up-side to this approach is that we should be able to exploit the area left behind to get Olusanya driving at pace. Unfortunately his touch is fucking awful, and there are greater problems than his lack of marking! I'd hook him at halftime. I thought Milanovic did well tracking back the other week and might be worth just chucking in. He's pish in attack of course, but as long as he remains disciplined, it'd be an improvement. Which is not a compliment.
