We are going to be cutting our cloth to suit this summer. Might be a good thing for us. I also think we won't be getting rid of too many players under contract, but Robinson will likely get more out of some of them and you would like to think some will have a point to prove too. Quote
RicoS321 Posted 16 hours ago Report Posted 16 hours ago It strikes me that nobody has done an analysis of the last year's signings yet: Suman (s) - fail Bratveit (s) - success Gyamfi (s) - jury's out Frame (s) - success Elvis (s) - success Dorrington - fail Morrison - success McIntyre (s) - fail Aouchiche - success/fail Armstrong (s) - success Geiger - fail Aremu (s) - jury's out Kjartansson (s) - fail Cameron - success Karlsson - fail Milanovic (s) - fail Bilalovic (s) - fail Olusanya - success Yengi (s) - fail Lazetic (s) - fail Nisbet (s) - success Think that's everyone. Criteria for success is simply fulfilling the intention of the signing. For example, Armstrong was signed as a first team regular, Frame as a development player getting minutes, Elvis to cover in the last few games if required. Karlsson was signed as a superstar and so fails (mainly because I hate him). Aouchiche fulfilled his brief, but left early. Dorrington is better than Morrison but didn't feature in the way Morrison has. Geiger is better than Aremu but has spent too long injured or suspended. Aremu is jury's out because he is a long term signing (I should perhaps have split into long term and loans), who I think we may see relegated to bit part player in time (depending on his preseason). Gyamfi too. 21 signings in a season, with 7 loanees and 2 short terms is a sign of a failed system. Of the 12 signings, to only have 5 successes, with one being the already proven Nisbet, the sub keeper and another being Elvis, is astoundingly bad. Really, we're looking at about 20-30% success. We should be aiming for 60%. Armstrong's success is also tempered by the fact that he hasn't been fit enough to play two games per week, and that will likely be worse next season. Frame is the only one who stands out as a good signing, who will likely improve over time. An absolute disorganised disaster of a season for recruitment. No clear plan, far too many gambles and too many players in a similar mould. A real concern that we don't have the slightest clue what we're doing and that there are real problems with the underlying system. Last summer shouldn't have happened, as was clear last summer. Quote
Ajja Posted 15 hours ago Report Posted 15 hours ago Suspect there were probably two objectives for recruitment if we are clutching at some sort of plan. Player trading (the gambling) and playing system (4231/inverted wingers/transitional/flood the zone/bla bla). Feels like there are competing priorities to it, Cormack wants us to be financially sustainable so successful player trading is demanded. Thelin/Lutz wanted to force a system that is too easy to play against in Scotland unless you have the funds to buy players that are miles ahead of the rest. Result is a cluster fuck of signings we can’t mould into a team. If we are cutting back on spending and so can’t perform major surgery on that squad then Robinson is going to need to be able to work JBA level miracles. He did make Philips into a moderately decent prem midfielder so there is hope I guess…. Quote
wee toon red Posted 14 hours ago Report Posted 14 hours ago Has the club said or done anything that indicates we'll spend less this year or is it just speculation? Cormack hasn't scaled back yet and I'm not sure this will be a summer where he could do it given the amount of new players that will be needed. Quote

Are Bilalovic, Milanovic and Lazetic really three different people? They’ve all just morphed into the same blob of shite to me 1 Quote

It was clear after Polvara was forced out for looking too much like Milne, that we were going to have to address the three you mention. 2 Quote
Panda Posted 56 minutes ago Report Posted 56 minutes ago Listening to Robinson's press conference today, he seems keen on keeping Morrison and Olusanya. Quote
