Dante Polvara

Does Kjartan need to be registered? My recollection from Football Manager is the foreign youngsters are exempt somehow.

Also wouldn’t be surprised to see some players with a year left on their contracts whom we paid a transfer fee for leaving this summer. I think Gueye and Morris fall into that category.

Dante seems like a good guy and appears to be popular with the club and his team mates but if he was going to be a key player for us then he’d be a regular by now rather than a perma sub.

Maybe one of those who in an ideal world you’d keep in your squad but in reality he’s one of the most dispensable.

He does, aye.  u21 players are only exempt if they have been at the club for two seasons.  On the flip side because we have got him so young, and if we keep him long enough, he would be able to be registered as trained at club once he turns 22.

Yeah fair point re Gueye and Morris.  Would defo offer Morris a new contract.... Pape has probably just about done enough for a new deal as well though you wouldn't be shocked if he wasn't and punted for a few hundred K.  I suppose the question is do they want to stay?

I like polvara, I just don’t know how we play him. He’s not an enforcer, not a holding mid, not a ramadani engine, not that flair creative 10 that perhaps Adil is, and not a deeper lying creative type like Clarkson. Don’t see how he fits in to our starting 11 but is a good utility player who can even come off the bench and play in the back like the final. For his benefit does he move on?

"Surplus to requirements" according to the BBC Gossip column today. (Along with Ruby, Jensen, Ambrose and Sokler.)

Technically, it was "surplus to requirements?" with a question mark on the end, as in we don't have a clue 🤣

To me it just seemed Thelin wanted players to get minutes and he couldn't bring the whole squad to Cove.

Reports were we were open to offers for Vinniie, yet he played v Cove.

Apparently on the radar of Hibs

Think he'd be better suited elsewhere to be honest.

Would hate to play against him

If he has any sense Polvara will return to US as I just don’t think he is cut out for Scottish football. Not concerned about him joining another Scottish club.

I’d be very sad to see him go. I think he has a lot of heart which is more than can be said of others in the squad. Hopefully he goes back to the US rather than a league rival.

Not sure what folk see him. He seems to have obtained almost cult status, but I can’t recall when he has ever had a good game when starting a match.

Got some talent, but wholly unsuited to Scottish football as he lacks physicality & needs time & space on the ball you don’t get here in order to be effective.

If he leaves (& personally I wouldn’t offer him a new deal for the reasons stated above) he’d be absolutely mental to stay in Scotland (again for the reasons stated above).

He would go with my best wishes though, primarily for that utterly class cup final penalty (fair play, showed a level of bottle I didn’t think he had) and also for his brilliant reaction when the winning penalty went in…

I dont think anyones offered him possible cult like status,at least on here anyway, but I think a lot of us thought we might have picked up a potential gem, that may come good once he adjusts to the Scottish game.

Looking more like he's actually a bit of a blouse, and just doesnt suit the rigours of Scottish fitba

Polvara would make a cracking no 10 imo. He's not the most mobile but he has good touch and awareness and defenders struggle with him when he gets in the box.

Ah think ye hae a point there. Ah like Polvara. Ah see him as quietly effective, nae a flair player, nae the kind that gets ye aff yer seat .... but reliable, and nae a 'ball hogger'. Rarely loses the ball, and can pick a decent pass better than maist.

Ah think playin' him as a '10' might be a challenge for him, but worth a punt Ah'd say.

Had we actually not made a thread for him?! Guess that kinda says it all, never fit enough or good enough. Shame, had a lot of potential and wish him all the best!

Similar to sokler in a way, always wanted the guy to do well, it just didn’t work out. Just not got that battling quality or engine that Scottish football requires. Maybe even like jimmy, nice guy, just not the right place for them.

have the upmost respect for penalty takers, was surprised he had the stones to take one, and a lovely one at that.
Dont really follow MLS, but will check in once in a while to see how he’s doing, not unlike seeking how Ferguson is doing in Italy.

I would have loved to see Polvara get a decent shot as a no 10.  He's good at playing with his back to goal and I think he could have thrived there.

Not in Scotland though, i just don’t think he handles the pace and physicality of the Scottish game. Eager to see how he plays in MLS though, I do think him playing in Scotland has made him a better player.

Only way I’d see him succeeding in Scotland would be in central defense as a partner with a left footed mattie pollock.

150k to st Louis, considering he’s out of contract in the summer and we have a bloated squad, fair enough.

We'll agree to disagree then, I think he could have handled it but it doesn't matter now anyway.  Will defo keep tabs on Dante though.

Thanks Rico. Although do we now need a thread that pulls Rico up on posts that haven't been addressed yet?

Agreed. He was better suited to our Euro games than our more physical scottish games. No hard feelings for the lad. Naturally would much rather he ended up at Houston or another MLS team than the likes of Hibs ... but I wouldnt be concerned if he ends up at another Scottish Premiership team
