BigAl Posted Wednesday at 07:35 Report Posted Wednesday at 07:35 So the Scottish Parliament has passed the first hurdle in this potentially becoming law, although still a long way to go. Are you supportive or not and what is behind your thinking. As one that has experience of family suffering painful protracted death I am very much in the pro camp provided it involves terminal illnesses only, signed off by at least two medical practitioners and is very closely controlled. Totally against it because although it’s limited now in most countries it been brought into the range of those who qualify for assisted suicide is expanded from terminally ill to include those with mental health issues. Also can easily see the it’s much cheaper to go now than put a burden on your family/state argument being used to pressure the vulnerable in the future. Would much rather see Palliative care improved than this. Quote
RicoS321 Posted 5 hours ago Report Posted 5 hours ago It's a difficult subject, I'm not sure there's a good answer. I agree with @Jute that it will always tend towards scope creep - a bit like VAR, but not as important. It's the concept of playing God that I find the most intriguing. We've stripped the earth bare, dropped nuclear bombs, sprayed indiscriminate chemicals across the planet. The entire concept of civilisation is based on playing God (or the work of the gods, at least). On a daily basis, we decide that not only can we dictate the entire lives of the animals we eat, but we destroy any animal that might also want to eat them, or the food that they eat. Every single city, town and village is designed around the concept that humans are separate from (or higher than) nature and subject to none of its laws. We are, for all intents and purposes, within this system of ours, God. We can decide how every other animal dies, but when it comes to another human, it's playing God. That's a fucking bizarre God. Euthanasia is a logical conclusion to our system. It's good for economic growth. Probably. Quote
