  1. Since I'm not at all convinced that Milne and his flying monkeys are capable of organising a fuck in a free brothel, I can't see any stadium coming along any time soon.... unless Milne is stopped by someone selling magic beans, which upon being planted grow into a 35,000,000 pound stadium.

Thus far they've shown themselves pretty much incapable of raising significant funds to clear even 10,000,000 of debt.  But we're expected to believe they've suddenly came up with a plan that's going to raise three and a half times that much?

Call me cynical, but they're talking out of their arses when they say they're going to come up with the readies for a new stadium.

  2. I think you're all being a little harsh on Stoney.  The entire team failed to put in the effort for McGhee, but now they can take 7 out of 9 points and hammer East fife at a canter.

It certainly seems like they may have been taking the pish out of the fans who pay good money to watch them of a Saturday, yet are perfectly capable of competing when they feel like it.

While we can't punish them all, I'd definitely like to see at least a couple of them transfered to Peterheid just by way of exacting righteous vengeance.

Probably wouldnae pick Maguire to make an example of, tho.

Fair old goal against the Icelanders, like :)

  3. Okay, this has probably been gone over before, but I've had a few Jack and Cokes, so I'll be buggered if I'm reading through this thread the night to see if I'm repeating what has been gone over.

Hartley is a decent player, he's a strong player, and he takes absolutely no shit whatsoever.  It's possible his 'legs have gone' but I remember guys like Charlie Nicholas standing doing next to fuck all while play raged on around him, then, when he got the ball at his feet, he was capable of moments of sheer genius.  The man did next to no running at all, but running around wasn't something Nicholas did.  You played the ball to his feet and he did the rest.

I've never been one to particularly care if a player doesn't bomb around the park like a demented Tasmanian Devil on speed.... fuck I need some speed, btw.....  what I care about is what he does with the ball once he's in possession of the thing.

To my mind I'm happy to see younger players do the spadework in the middle.  Let a fit Fyvie charge around the park expending his youthful energy... leaving Hartley the luxury of getting in the faces of opposition players and dictating play.

The sum of the parts don't equal the whole with guys like Hartley. We could play some fud in the middle who's 'legs haven't gone', like, say, Gary McDonald.  But given the option I'd take a presence in the middle over a younger player any day of the week.

You play against a guy like Hartley and you know he's there breathing down your neck.

I'd rather play against some fanny who's scared to put in a tackle than against some guy who'll punt you 50 feet in the air for looking at him funny.

I genuinely thought this was going to be Fyvie and Pawlett's break-out year... where they did the running and the creation, while the old warrior that is Hartley bossed the midfield and looked after the welfare of the younger loons on his team.

Hartley's value to the team lies beyond the ability to barrel around the park for 90 minutes. He's a genuine leader and captain in the style of a Willie Miller. When did we last have that?

  4. Anyone seen Wide Open Spaces with Spud from Trainspotting and the dude from Father Ted?

Was a pretty good fillum, and I thought way better than thon Dead Man's shoes.

Also saw Sex Lives of the Potato Men, and that wasnae half bad either.

Any recommendations on British films that arnae Ghandi or Chariots of Fire?

  5. Personally I just don't think McGhee was a competent Dons manager.

That he was hung out to dry by a board more interested in saving money than investing in the squad didn't help. But McGhee was responsible for some monumental fuck ups.

Bad luck may have played a part, but I reckon incompetence played a far bigger role in the disaster that was McGhee's reign.

  6. Twice shoveled the drive the day, and it's still sna'in.  I'll be fucked if I'm shoveling it a third time. Wouldna be able to anyway, since I'm on aboot my 8th Jack and Coke.

Something else that's impossible to do when you'vebeen drinking, and thats make toast.  I've been trying to cook some gourmet toastm but it keeps burnin./

  7. Fuck walking up Wellington Road.  I'll take the bus.

Wellington Road on a Saturday will be more choked than my ex bird in a room full of cock.

If yer taking the bus I'd advise bringing board games and a sleeping blanket.... particularly the sleeping blanket, because you never know if my ex bird is going to be on the bus inna.

  8. Clearly they aren't going to listen to fans so I say fuck it, let's shut everyone else out

2 10 teams league the regionalise a'body else. And if they are serious about making it more competitive then for the first 3-5 years all cash split evenly between the top 10. Then in 3-5 years we should be seeing Scottish teams more competitive in Europe and then we can divvy it up more evenly.

Full of holes and desperately unfair, but something has to be done.

I'm going to go ahead and offer up the Kelt Plan For Footballing Awesome in Scotland. And I'm just going to copy/paste from another site because I'm a lazy fecker....

To me, that involves the manner in which the entire league structure currently operates being torn apart and put back together in a very different way... not just altering the number of teams in the top league... which does nothing but, well, change the number of teams in the top league. 10, 14, or 16 teams, imo, is about as radical as putting a product in new packaging and emblazoning the packaging with the words NEW FORMULA, when if fact absolutely f**k all is going to change regards the OF domination, the gulf in finances and the continued apathy towards the sport.

An East Coast and West Coast split would be a genuine and positive step.

    East Coast League

    Aberdeen

    Dundee United

    Hearts

    Hibs

    Dundee

    Inverness

    St Johnstone

    Dunfermline

    Raith Rovers

    Falkirk

    West Coast League

    Rangers

    Celtic

    Motherwell

    Kilmarnock

    St Mirren

    Hamilton

    Partick Thistle

    Morton

    QotS

    Airdrie United

The Scottish Cup remains a national competition.

The League cup becomes a regional competition. Two league cups, one East Coast, one West.

The Winners of each league play off for the title, and as such gains admittance to the Champion's league as national winner (whether that winner then has to play off against, say, the Latvian champs to gain entry to the CL would be up to UEFA. The EC/WC playoff loser becomes runner up.

Travel is largely reduced for fans, as the leagues are regional.

Promotion and relegation would involve lower tier regional leagues... assuming relegation is retained. Personally I'd like to see relegation scrapped. With no fear of relegation the top teams will be more prone to play attacking football. The worst that can happen is finishing bottom and losing out on prize money.

The West Coast teams have the benefit of Old Firm gates, likely more sponsorship and probably more media attention.

The East Coast is massively more competitive, leading to larger gates and an increase in gate money. With no OF demanding larger chunks of prize money, gouging an extra 5% on ticket sales and the potential for any of the teams to win the league, the East Coast league benefits from the departure of the Scum and their bigotry.

  9. I'm anti-Union, that flag is a symbol of the Union, so I'm agin it.

I'm a reasonable man, but seeing that flag with 'ABERDEEN' on it makes me angry in the head.

  10. McGhee added, "Of course, this is unless the Celtic job comes up.  Celtic are better than you lot, eh? And if that falls through then you lads can be my safety net. "

"How about that?" continued McGhee. "You lot.  Nae as good as rashellic?"

"How are you boys aff for full backs?" McGhee added, beating this particular horse to a bloody pulp. "'Cause we'll need to get rid o them, but."
