  1. I said the same thing to my misses about that. I was very surprised how old he looked. Good programme though. A couple of my colleagues who are bitter reds, refused to watch either programme as it would expose their inability to be human. I.e. show emotion for a tragic event!

A Mrs!? I go on holiday for a year and a half and come back to find you've got a Mrs!

  2. I think there was a lot of stuff 'leaked' that may aid the US diplomatically. Things like the Chinese secretly finding North Korea a pain in the ass and the Saudi's wanting to obliterate Iran are exactly the sort of thing the Yanks would want out in the public.

  3. None of the above. The problem is I can't think of anyone. There must be a young manager somewhere in England creating a stir. Or an Owen Coyle type appointment, that was pretty inspired by St Johnstone, we need something like that but I guess it's not an easy to find and make such an appointment. Especially at a club like Aberdeen where the pressure is now huge.

  4. I think you are right Sheepheid. I think to some extent our issues are down to circumstance. During the period football encountered an economic revolution Aberdeen were challenging for honours. Then all of a sudden, due to the worldwide and national fanbase that the Old Firm have they started to grow and grow. Aberdeen supporters were accustomed to challenging and beating the Old Firm and so it was percieved by most, including probably most of the support, that we could and should match them. This was the speculate to accumulate era. Nobody at all thought this was the wrong thing to do at the time and now we find ourselves in horrendous debt because of that period in history. The fact that the redistribtion of wealth in Scottish football is skewed toward the Old Firm is a contributory factor as well.

Add the fact that we are ultra skint to the fact that many, rightly so, believe that we should still be up toward the top end of the league and winning cups then that creates a lot of pressure. A pressure which McGhee and all those who have gone before cannot handle. The facts are though that the budget is probably toward the top of the 'bottom 10' in the SPL. McGhee chose to spend it how he saw fit. The fact that Ifil is one of our top earners speaks volumes. I think a lot is being made of this 'cancer' and I believe the cancer is actually the pressure that the management are not able to deal with. Calderwood is proof that a certain calibre of manager can be good enough to make a difference at Aberdeen. Yes McGhee has had a horrendous run with injuries but at the same time he is the guy who gave Ifil such a lucrative contract and decided that football doesn't need to be played with full backs.

So in short, yes we all know there are problems but every other club outwith the Old Firm are working with their hands ties behind their backs. I think in this case McGhee was a poor choice as manager.

  5. Does he have a good record on Wikipedia?

Actually I'm havering pish. He took Odense to 3rd and then took over the then champions Aalborg and managed them in the Champions league. But he seems to have gone down well at Middlesboro and Bolton.

  6. Aberdeen is fast becoming a managers graveyard. Alex Miller has done nothing of note managerial wise since his departure. Ebbe had a short unsuccessful stint with a small Copenhagen based club post Dons before ultimately retiring. Patterson is only now making a comeback at Huntly. Calderwood. Where does McGhee go next? What does it say about Milne's judgement? I don't think anybody could have predicted this would happen to McGhee. Terrible state of affairs.

    Who next for the Dons?

  7. Cheers Mizer.

I really can't see Maguire leaving. I think he'd be daft to. I'd be amazed if Celtic were interested, he'll not go to the huns and going down south is too early for him in my opinion. Another couple of years at Pittodrie will do him good if he continues playing with the same attitude as he has shown this season.

They did sign Mulgrew. Remember him?
