  1. SPFL chief executive Neil Doncaster said that he hoped to have the match delegate's report on the game at Stark's Park on Friday night within the next 48 hours

In a statement released today the head of the Scottish Professional Football League, said: "It remains the SPFL's position that if it can be established that clubs have done everything required in overall management of the event pre-match, during the game and post-match then they have no case to answer."

While stating his "anger" over the "distasteful, shameful and selfish actions of a mindless minority", he said that the governing body would maintain the same stance taken in the wake of the recent Old Firm League Cup semi-final.

The statement continued: "But setting that aside, the vast majority of decent fans will share a strong degree of anger and despair that the good name of Scottish football is once again being dragged through the mud by the distasteful, shameful and selfish actions of a mindless minority who seem hell bent on indulging in outdated and offensive behaviour.

"I know that clubs, players and many others across the game share this frustration.

"While we can't comment further until we review the match delegate report, we will work with our clubs and the police to do everything within our powers to act against those involved in such unacceptable conduct and behaviour.

"However ultimately we also need the supporters to play their part to help stamp out such behaviour."

  3. Why Kenny McLean will be the key man for Aberdeen against St Mirren

Injury to Jonny Hayes may mean that Derek McInnes has to alter his formation for the visit of St Mirren.

There are no shortage of options, as the Aberdeen manager could bring in Willo Flood, Barry Robson or Cammy Smith as more direct replacements, or start David Goodwillie and alter the formation.

Without Hayes’ running, more impetus could be placed on Kenny McLean when he faces his old club.

The 23-year-old has been gently eased into proceedings, starting in an advanced midfield role against Ross County, before being moved deeper for the match with Hamilton.

McLean could be directly pitted against his creative replacement in Stephen Mallan. The youngster has been the undoubted highlight of a difficult season so far, and despite playing only 1060 minutes of first-team football this term, he is the only player in the St Mirren team to have provided three or more assists.

ABERDEEN FC will take on Viking Stavanger FK in the Energy Cities Cup.

The Dons are the current holders of the trophy after winning 3-2 against the Norwegians in 2013.

The two sides will meet again at Pittodrie on Tuesday, September 8 at 7.30pm.

The game is being held as part of the Offshore Europe event in the Granite City.

Entry for the game will be free of charge and details of ticketing requests will be announced separately.

The Dons will provide pre-match and post-match entertainment.

There will also be a variety of corporate hospitality, sponsorship and advertising packages for companies wishing to stage a function, and/or entertain guests and visitors to Offshore Europe.

The match is being staged in association with Aberdeen City Council and Statoil.

Scott McKenna has this afternoon joined Ayr United on a short term loan deal until the end of the season.

The central defender will join up with teammate Craig Murray who is also on loan at Somerset Park.

Scott, who came in as a full time player last year, has been in great form for Paul Sheerin's side in the Development League and this will be his first spell out on loan. As well as captaining the U20s he skippered his country at U19 level.

The 18 year old will be available to play for Ian McCall's men this Saturday when they travel to play Peterhead.

Culjak has pushed him out of contention?

  6. Andrew Considine insists Aberdeen will not let their focus slip ahead of the potentially crucial upcoming meeting with Celtic.

The Dons are three points adrift of the Premiership leaders, who they face at Celtic Park on 1 March.

But Considine's full focus is on Saturday's date with St Mirren.

"It's going to be a huge end to the season but we have St Mirren next and we will look at that and take each game as it comes," he told the club website.

Derek McInnes' Dons cut the gap on Celtic with a 3-0 win at Hamilton on Sunday, a game in which Considine netted the opener.

The Pittodrie men have taken 32 points from a possible 36 since last losing in the league against Celtic, leaving Aberdeen well-placed in the title race.

  7. Surprised to read this morning that the Scottish Tories are featuring Ruth Davidson partner in their election broadcast.

Yes it gives them a positive image to most people but will traditional Tory voters who have been oblivious that she is a 'sinner' not just head straight for UKIP? Interesting strategy by them.
