  1. Did amuse me the highlights near enough skipped the whole of the first half. Its nice to hear for a change we played some nice football and actually won a game as well. I've thought we've played some good football in recent months but lost out on these occassions. Lets just hope we can build on this and get a bit of momentum going. Get Pittodrie as the Psychological fortress again!
  2. To be fair, as JC has even said (either about him or Mackie) if any of our strikers were 30 goal a season strikers, they wouldn't be with us. But I think Miller's all round game is top notch, as you say, just want a few more goals out of him.
  3. Think this is quite a good article and I have to agree with what he says. JC saved Miller's career as he was on a road to nothing with the Jutes and now is one of the most consistent performers for our club. Thank fuck he stayed! And its good to see that even he thinks JC has still got a lot of work to do at the club.
  4. As was mentioned on another thread, he won't be going anywhere until he wins something. No-one wants a manager that hasn't actually done anything (trophy-wise).
  5. Before anyone starts, I didn't buy it or do I read the paper I saw it on another site so thought I should post it here Barry Nicholson: Old boss Jimmy Calderwood should move south to prove himself Nov 30 2008 By Mark Guidi FORMER Pittodrie star Barry Nicholson insists Dons gaffer Jimmy Calderwood must move to England to finally prove himself. Preston midfielder Nicholson, who quit Aberdeen on a Bosman in the summer, is adamant Calderwood's talents are going stale in the north east and the only way they'll be rejuvenated is by joining him down south. The under-fire Dons boss has looked on helplessly as an exodus of his big-name players have left for megabucks deals in the Championship. Nicholson joined ex-Pittodrie pal Michael Hart at Deepdale, Chris Clark signed for Plymouth in August and inspirational skipper Russell Anderson switched to the promotion chase at Sunderland last season. Having taken Dons to a UEFA Cup last-32 place last term Caldo has arguably punched above his weight at Pittodrie. The beleaguered manager has been unable to strengthen in the transfer market and realises the chances of silverware are remote. But Nicholson, 30, believes Jimmy will be a massive success if he works with a board prepared to back him up. And if Calderwood is targeted Nicholson reckons Dons - who announced a trading profit for last year - will only have themselves to blame. He said: "I loved working under Jimmy. I had four years with him at Dunfermline and three at Aberdeen. "I needed a change and had always wanted to try England so was pleased to sign for Preston. "Jimmy may well feel the same. It has been hard for him as he has not had much money to spend and replace the players he lost. "Hart, Clark and Anderson were all massive parts of the team. "We never really replaced them and I just felt we weren't going to get any better. It didn't look like we were going to strengthen. "If we had got more backing we could have pushed on. "If you can keep your good players for a few years it gives you a better chance. "It must be difficult for Jimmy when he's not even getting a little money to spend. I'm sure he'll want to test himself at a higher level and try England. "I know he has had a bit of stick this season but there is no need to panic. He would do well at another club if he moved on." Nicholson made his mind up a year ago he was going to quit Pittodrie under freedom of contract. However, had Dons won the Scottish Cup he may well have stayed. The 4-3 semi-final loss to Queen of the South was a devastating blow and Nicholson felta cup hangover was part of the reason for Aberdeen's poor start to this season. He said: "There's no way we should have lost to Queens. We would have played Rangers in the final and I believe we'd have beaten them. "Had we won the cup it may have swung it for me to stay. I often talk to the Aberdeen boys about losing that game and it still hurts." Nicholson now has his sights set on promotion with Preston. Alan Irvine's side are in a decent position in the Championship and Nic would love to play in the Premiership. He said: "Alan is meticulous. His planning into every aspect of the game is unbelievable. "He uses ProZone and lots of video stuff. He brings boys in individually and that has been a help as I didn't know much about the players I'd be facing down here. "Alan is great to work under and I'm enjoying the change of scenery. "Promotion to the Premiership would be special but this is a tough league. You play on a Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday and there is little time to rest. "The standard is slightly better than the SPL out with the Old Firm. The teams are also bigger and stronger - I've worked in the gym every day since I arrived. "We'll see where we are at the end of January. You always have a better idea of how things will shape up then." http://www.sundaymail.co.uk/sport-news/scottish-football/spl/aberdeen-fc/2008/11/30/barry-nicholson-old-boss-jimmy-calderwood-should-move-south-to-prove-himself-78057-20935468/
  6. Not sure, I missed that part! But yeah, MacDonald is Nicholson's replacement. Said it after seeing him play and I've stood by it, just needs time to settle in and it would appear he is doing so. We always have been slow starters Will Tommy Wright be like a new signing?
  7. Haha I'd forgotten about that. Nevertheless, glad to see you can keep perspective of these events A few folk on Mad are calling/debating whether or not Kerr should be given the captaincy! Some turn around after most people had written him off at the start of the season. Does this mean Jimmy C can get the best out of players? Shirley not
  8. You still drunk Jager? I'll have whatever you're on 8 points between us and the hun b squad. If we keep a steady team we should claw that back. It felt good last night to be celebrating a win again, lets hope its one of many!
  9. Young keen to sign a new contract at Pittodrie midfielder was unaware of being booed by supporters By Michael Gannon Published: 29/11/2008 LOOKING FOR A RESULT TODAY: Aberdeen’s Derek Young. Kevin Emslie More Pictures Aberdeen midfielder Derek Young will not require much persuading should the Dons give him the opportunity to sign a new contract at Pittodrie. Young is one of several players, including Scott Severin, Jamie Smith, Lee Mair and Jeffrey de Visscher, whose deals expire at the end of the season. Although talks have yet to start, he is keen to stay. The 28-year-old is in his second spell with the Dons and not even the jeers from some supporters in the 2-0 victory against St Mirren a fortnight ago will put him off remaining in the north-east. He said: “I have not spoken to anyone about my contract situation. I am sure if the club offers the out-of-contract players new deals there will not be any problems. There certainly will not be a problem with me. “Two years ago I was at Partick Thistle and I was not enjoying my football so much. “The difference at Pittodrie has been incredible and, although the team has not been playing as well this season, I am still loving it. Whatever new contract comes along, I'm pretty sure there will not be any hassle on my part. “I did not realise I was getting booed until I saw it in the newspaper the following day. It was news to me but I shout and scream at the television when things are not going right so I am not going to criticise anyone. “The supporters were frustrated because we were not steamrollering St Mirren but we were frustrated also. “I have never had a problem with the supporters at Aberdeen, the only time I can remember getting any stick was when I came back with another club. “I was in and out of the team for a while and I was frustrated because I was not playing as well as I would have liked. Now I am looking to getting myself back to my best form.†Young was impressive in last weekend’s 2-0 defeat at Rangers and, while the result was disappointing, he is looking for a similar performance against Motherwell at Pittodrie today. He said: “It is frustrating for everyone to put so much into games and get nothing. “It sounds good to say you kept Pedro Mendes and Barry Ferguson quiet for long spells but the end result meant all the hard work was for nothing. It does show though that it can be done and there are a lot of positives we can take from it.â€
  10. Surprisingly I'd agree with that. But its clear for all to see that this has been a problem, but a good start was signing Aluko on a permanent deal. I also think Kerr was a good signing and have hopes for Macdonald in the future. But we haven't replaced Hart and Anderson which are two key areas. Hodgkiss is all very well in the short term, but we need our own right back. I'm still unsure whether or not Seve deserves a place in the team after how he's played for a few years now. I certainly don't want him at the back, but I he definitely doesn't have the pace for the midfield anymore. But then we have the problem of who would replace him, as no-one else has any real bite in the midfield.
  11. Difficult one to call this one, both teams seem to be a bit indifferent in form at the moment. Think it will be a really right game but hopefully Mackie will come off the bench and score the winner! Come on you Reds! Now is the time to get a run going!
  12. To be fair to him, he doesn't always post shite
  13. Most definitely, as he is CV driven and was why I said he would want to leave on a high when his stock would be up the most (such as after a cup win). I don't think he'd get much bigger than us, but obviously he'd get a fair bit of extra cash to play with not only for his team but for himself.
  14. Yes and no. The majority of our league performances were bad last season but we still managed to finish strongly. Last season was exactly why I support Aberdeen, can take you from dispair to extacy and dispair all in a matter of a football match. The highs are great and the lows are horrendous but I wouldn't have had it any other way last season. Obviously I would have loved to have got to a final and won a trophy, but I wouldn't swap anything for what I experienced last season. I had an argument with a Tim about JC this week, he hates him because he is one of the vermin and spouts blood about JC's obvious blue nosed tendancies. I then asked him who he thought would come to Aberdeen and do a better job. He ran a list all of which I disagreed with. I still stand by this and unless we finish lower than we did last season I don't see why JC won't remain, in my eyes at least the man for the job.
  15. Completely agree. I'm pretty hopeful that we'll finish in the top 4 despite predicting we'd finish 5th at the start of the season. Mid season is no the time to change managers. Especially one that has ensured us good finishes at the end of each season. I don't have a lot of time of JC, but I want him to succeed at the club and know if he keeps his head screwed on he could be successful.
  16. I think the two players I was sad to leave were Ryan Strachan (after receiving his award a few months earlier) and Ryan O'Leary. Both moved on for non footballing reasons so I can't hold anyone at the club responsible for that. No other players have moved onto "greater things" and neither have these two, yet, at least.
  17. Aye seen that this morning as well. I don't think that it would be the right time to leave. If his argument was that he'd taken us as far as he could, then that doesn't say much about him. I'm guessing he'd like to go out on a high as it would look better on his CV, but surely he could see that he could take us further than that. At least consistently finish at least 3rd and get to cup finals, top 6 finishing doesn't cut it for me. Does he have a lack of faith in his own ability?
  18. Think he's one of the Faroese(?) Players
  19. We need a keeper and a right winger in Jan at least!
  20. I agree with you except the feeling better now than I did a month ago. A month ago I had far more optimism than I do now. I was confident we would be 3rd by some point in December, but i'm not so sure now. Its nice to see us playing well, we just really need to concentrate more. What was the most frustrating thing about Saturday was that we weren't bossed out the game and lost to yet again, two shite moments of concentration in defence. I know the team have the ability, I just hope Calderwood doesn't change it up for the sake of changing it up.
  21. I think that quote alone is what sums up Jimmy Calderwood. Its bloody annoying.
  22. Charlie Adam should be hung from the rafters for what he did. Clear intent and went for Sone. Usually I would say how it would be surprising that none of the officials picked it up, but then again, it was snake mountain, it was the huns, i'm not surprised.
  23. Its on Al Jazeera sport. You have a PM.
