Aberdeen Women

Have I missed something but I thought we already had a female side in Second Division??  I take it this team wasn't connected to the club as a whole??

  • Aberdeen beat Hibs 1-0 today, which is quite possibly their biggest scalp since becoming Aberdeen Women, and certainly their biggest result since they knocked Spartans out of the Scottish Cup a few ye

Disappointing but results weren’t great last season. Still, losing both captain and vice on top of that isn’t a great look.

Can only assume it was cost cutting that led to Booth, the captain and the vice captain being shown the door. They got humped 0-6 by Celtic today - at this point I don’t understand the strategy and why they are even bothering with a women’s team.

The lassies are looking likely to make it 9 out of 9 defeats at Montrose tonight. 0-1 down and down to ten women.

What's the point in having a wifies team anyway? It's just a waste of money.

Everyone else has one?

The difference is the likes of Celtic, Rangers, Hearts and Hibs seem to be putting some cash and effort into theirs.

I'm not into lassies fitba in general, but that's because I'm middle-aged and it wasn't a thing when I was younger. It is getting more popular with the young generation, and I think it's a wasted opportunity for the club to engage with young female fans by having a successful, or at least competitive, women's team.

aforementioned captain and vice captain are now playing for Montrose.

Relegation looking pretty certain now. Think Spartans up next?

Women’s game is getting stronger and stronger everywhere else in the world, so I’m not seeing our logic for not actually investing in it. Do they think they don’t get the returns on it? Women’s game here in NZ got a massive shot in the arm with the WWC and the Phoenix invested heavily into the new team on the back of it. Reaping rewards now, just need some silverware.

I think the last accounts said we invest £1.2m a year. But the SWPL give clubs a bit of money for it. I think there might be Uefa money. And the team has their own shirt sponsors etc so bring outward investment in. So actually the outlay from the club is quite small.

They actually announced this morning it's been moved to Balmoral Stadium. Think it's because it's a plastic pitch and the weather is going to be shite.

It will make a whole load of difference playing on a shitey plastic pitch in 60mph winds
