Seems ConDems have crashed down south as expected with Labour making pretty big gains. 

Be interesting to see how things pan out in Scotland but presumably given it is STV there won't be any councils where a party has overall control.  Apparently heading for the lowest turnout in years up here but then you'd hardly know there was an election on where I stay.  No posters or billboards and I only got one leaflet through my door which was Tory, which is bizarre given in my ward I'd imagine they'd do well to get even 4th on 1st preference never mind get anywhere near a seat.

 

Don't suppose it means much so far away from a GE but already had Tory MPs demanding Callmedave is more right wing after UKIP success in the south and comedy figure Lebit Opik demanding Nick Clegg resigns as leader of the Lib Dems (but seemingly stay on as Deputy PM).

Also glad to see that so far nobody has voted in favour of Mayors in various English cities. Total waste of time and money and nothing more than a celebrity driven ego trip (see B. Johnston and K. Livingston)

A shocking figure, but nobody seems to care that 62% of the electorate couldn't give a fuck.

I’m puzzled at the SNP failing to get its vote out (it’s down by about 46%, it seems). Might it be because the unbearable screaming skull Jute cunt* was more popular than my former MP 2019-2024 - who I voted for to keep the Tories out in 2019? Very very strange, especially with a hugely-partisan World Cup in progress. I suspect the middle classes of Mannofield, Milltimber etc turned out. 

*I’d be interested to find out if the big operation he had on his leg a while back also included the insertion of an extra vertebra to enable him to sook his ain cock. “I’m proud to say that I once canvassed in Aberdeen wearing a Dundee United shirt”. You’d have had your knackers kicked up your arse had you appeared on my doorstep, matey.

When I say care, I mean the politicians and the press. I have no issue with people not voting.

I'd be embarrassed to win a seat where the over whelming majority couldn't be arsed. Possibly why I would never make a politician. 

Voter turnout has been dropping for years, and I know a lot of folk don't bother with by-elections, but it's just a bugbear of mine.

 

 

I just noticed at the Arbroath by-election yesterday, turnout was only 31%. The fourth ever lowest voter turnout.

Makerfield was just shy of 60%, which was the same as the turnout for the whole of the 20245 UK election.

He was guilty of being a Blairite, that's what cost him on previous attempts and how Ed beat his Brother David to the Leadership, after Brown.

He left Westminster, become Mayor of Manchester, had some relative success with that and now has a bit of momentum which he is hoping to carry into the role of PM.

I'd say as things currently stand, he is the best of a very bad bunch and much more preferable to another three years of Starmer, but politics isn't usually that straight forward and expect a twist to it yet.

The rise of Burnham, seems very similar to the rise of a certain Boris Johnson, as Prime Minister!

 

Burnham would appear to have a politically chameleonic quality.

He's sellable though, with an eye for a soundbite. 

That's what matters these days isn't it?

There seems to be some behind the scenes goings on, to get Starmer to step down and Burnham to move into the PM role without a leadership contest.

That's true. What is weird is that I've heard numerous people treat Burnham as some sort of saviour. From people in the greens for example. As if he's going to change British politics in some fundamental way. It's strange. He's just another professional middle class man, who'll talk about "grown up politics" and other obsequious phrases designed to make himself look competent and "statesman-like" (whatever the fuck that means), disguising the fact that he does fuck all. Because the system he's part of allows him to do fuck all, and he's comfortable with that. Any Labour voters I've heard talking about it suggest that he's the man that will keep both Reform and the Tories out. That's the absolute height of their ambitions. Does anyone really look at the world's problems, the multiple crises facing the planet and think that Labour Vs Tories is the relevant thing here? Anyway, good luck to him, I'm sure he's a lovely chap.

You’ll be able to tell straight away what path he’ll take. Given who the cunt was that stepped aside for him, I’m pretty sure I know. More of the same but better packaged. 
 

I’m not one of those edgy fast moving horse whispering spin doctors who have their finger on the pulse of every focus group going but if I was him, I’d do the following and id do it quickly 

1. Sanction Isreal 

2. Replace the Home Secretary 

3. Start chatting up the EU 

4. Remove the whip from Glasman 

5. Stop treating protesting grannies as terrorists 

6. Stop listening to JK Rowling. She’s mental 

7. Tax billionaires inside out 

8. Start Levenson 2 

9. Start hounding the PPE profiteers 

10. Fold Dundee Utd
