Aberdeen manager Craig Brown is resigned to losing attacker Sone Aluko after the Nigeria international told him he wants to return to England.

The 22-year-old has been offered a new contract by the Dons, but wants a move away from Pittodrie.

The offer remains on the table, but Brown fears he will lose the services of one of his key players this summer.

Wasn't Barry Ferguhun homesick in Blackburn which is a couple of hours away from Glasgow?

How can anyone be homesick for Birmingham? It's a total shithole.

At Cheltenham we had a player called Brian Wilson who was homesick for Stoke, so he moved to Bristol City.

Disappointed with this one, but as with most players who leave here, I can't help but think he'll not do any better. Think he'll end up League One or lower.

He had good vibrations about the move though.

God only knows why you have started on the puns in this thread.

It made me smile.

Wouldn't it be nice if just one thread didn't turn to puns.

You should punch whoever started it.

What's the story with Aluko, is he still with us?

Scotland on Sunday SPL preview said he'd left!?

I think he's technically still contracted to the club, but it appears no-one has been in for him. It's a shame he didn't want to stay because I think the upcoming season may have seen the best of him return.

Theres no such thing as technically still contracted to anyone

He either is or he isnt and given hes on the official sites squad list at Number 11 id say that means he is.

So if no one comes in for him and he isnt prepared to buy himself out of his contract then hes there to be utilised.

I know that, but it was from reading elsewhere that some people seemed to think they would be shorter. Which didn't make sense. I think he is contracted with us till the end of August? So in that case, he should be in pre season training with the rest of the team and preparing for the duration of the season he would participate in. I certainly think we need someone of his calibre and creativity, whether he wants to do that or not is another matter.

His contract expired at the end of June. He is under contract to no club, however any club wishing to sign him still has to pay us 200k compensation.

He won't be back, as I'd imagine the wages offered to him have been used elsewhere now.

He's contracted til September.

All mentions from Brown, Fraser and Miller have been that his contract ended at the end of June. Where did the Aug/Sept thing come from anyway?

Not a chance in hell we're paying a player till September but allowing him not to turn up for training or matches.

Think it's because he signed on the 31st of August.

If a player signs a "2 year deal" it doesnt mean it lasts exactly 2 years from that day.

True enough, but I certainly would read that as a 24 month contract.

Surely he'd at the very least be training with us and almost certainly taking some part in pre-season friendlies if he was still under contract with us?

Is Aluko not away with Nigerian Olympic squad?

A year early?

Had left the squad and "returned to the UK" prior to Jun 23rd.

Who? ;D

Aberdeen FC door is still open for Aluko

Brown tells Sone to give him a call

By Charlie Allan

Published: 21/07/2011

ABERDEEN FC today offered Sone Aluko one last chance to come back to Pittodrie.

Aluko’s agent has confirmed the winger, who turned down the new contract offered by Aberdeen FC last season, has still to find another club.

Aberdeen boss Craig Brown admits he would be happy to take Aluko back, but warned the 24-year-old he would have to make the first move.

Slow news day.
