A DEAL to sell Rangers Football Club to Scots venture capitalist Craig Whyte will go though by the middle of January, according to senior sources at the club.

Whyte, 39, met with Ibrox chairman Alastair Johnston in Glasgow to discuss the purchase of Sir David Murray's shareholding in the club.

 

The proposed £33 million deal will wipe out the existing debt that has stymied Rangers in the transfer market for two years.

 

Yesterday, sources at Rangers said the deal, barring any late hitches, could be completed before Christmas but it is more likely that it will be done by the middle of January. "We can't say with 100 per cent certainty, but Whyte has the money and is very convincing. We think the deal will happen," said the source.

 

Murray has presided over Rangers for 22 years but has been keen to sell his stake for some time.

 

Hopefully the debt thing is not true as that is what is holding them back at the moment.

Danny Rohl now seems to favourite. Only been manager at Sheffield Wednesday so used to dealing with bin fires but only an assistant elsewhere so cannot see him going down well with Orcs.

Even gerrard sees sense, although I believe it’s purely financial there. That makes no sense. Dyche makes little sense. Muscat makes more sense than either. Are they not humble enough to go for mcinnes, or do they fear rejection there?

the pressure on the next guy is immense. Would love to see them spunk their wad on Rafael benetiz or the likes.

Is it just me that sees the irony in Gerrard being unwilling to return to the Great British institution, The Rangers of Glasgow, on account of him not wanting to pay taxes he would be due to the British government 😉

Lol, Rohl has bowed out of the running. Beeb suggesting Muscat now "leads the race" to become Rangers' new manager. I thought a "race" had to have at least two competitors. So far, all I've seen is people take a very public stage to say "nah, no thanks"

The race is in the opposite direction, Muscat is just the one running the slowest.

Steven Smith will be the second former Aberdeen player to manage Rangers when he takes charge this weekend.

Played 20 times for Aberdeen, only on the winning side in six of them. And that's about all I know about his time at Pittodrie.

As for Muscat. His Wikipedia page, under 'reputation', it's quite the rap sheet.

You could maybe say 3rd, if you count Dodds' brief stint as co-manager alongside Barry and McCann

Nah, he was assistant head coach.

Was just having a look there to see when we get the first crack at Miovski and co, didn't realise we have to wait until a home and away double header within five days in January.

The gift that keeps giving just gave again.  Not a good look having your two top targets knock you back so publicly after it was supposed to be a done deal.  The chances of them getting even a solid, no frills, appointment are virtually nil now and their fans know it and are suitably raging.  According to the hun socials Thelwell and Stuart are the big problems and there's a lot of disenchantment about the American owners too.  What a difference a few months make.
