This one has always bemused me. Brought up in the Broch, it has always been the chip shop, I've never used either chipper or chippie. Heard more folk say chippie but the question always was  " anyone want anything from the chip shop"

Broch is alot posher than I remember

We don't need a poll. It's chipper and you order a chipper supper.

Deviants who use any other terminology should have their right to support the club revoked.

😆

There has to be special dispensation for fans who have never ever lived north of Edinburgh and most definitely have never been to a chipper in their life 😉

I had a portion of Chips with curry sauce today at lunchtime. First time i've been in a weegie chipper for long enough. It cost me a fiver. What's that all about? A fiver. Think it was about 3 quid last time I went.

Premiership survival - Can we get safe? Take that any day of the week over relegation. That simply does not bear thinking about.

A chipper supper is £12.50 these days.

It is definitely a chipper. The reason is that you get your meat from a butcher, fish from a fishmonger, groceries from a grocer, so it stands to reason that you get chips from a chipper.

There you go. Case closed.

There’s a flaw in that logic but I’d need to get all Bernard Manning about Chinese restaurants and where you get your magazines and rolls in the morning

This thread has inspired me.

Yes that is brown sauce on my chips and I will be answering no more questions on the matter.

A chipper supper eaten off a plate.

That is VERY posh.

My brother is very partial to brown sauce on a chipper supper.

In my own opinion, sauce on chips is wrong, but each to their own on that score.

It's a chipper!! ... itherwise oor we announce a team selection somethin' like a goalkeepie, 3 defendies, 2 back wingies, 3 midfieldies, an' two strikies. If that happens, dinna be surprised if mony a playie chaps on the door o' the managie demandin tae be put on the transfie list and ends up playin' for the Rangies.

... an' dinna get ma started aboot Willie Millie bein' a sweepie .... guy nivver swept a lum in eez life ... wis def a chipper tho ... nae an affa good ane, but hey, ye canna be good at aathin' ;)

A Chippy is a Joiner or Carpenter.

Clearly this is opinion but it is backed by the high level evidence.

Yeah but a chipper is something you stick tree cuttings into to make woodchip or an upbeat state of mind.

But that is adding the -i or -y prefix to refer to and derogatively stereotype a nationality and culture....not to refer to purveyors of fine food

I can't abide sauce over my chips. For me it needs to be on the side so I can add my desired and evenly distributed quantity to each individual chip. And it needs to be tomato.

I love salt and vinegar on my chips but never put vinegar on them at home. No idea why

Stephen Robinson has had a press conference ahead of the game, having taken the assembled press to the chipper first.

He says that the players are "up for the fight" and that Geiger may be available for the game, and Knoester is looking to be back for the second game after the split.

I don't mind if we get narrowly beat, as long as they put up a good fight. That would bode well for the battle ahead.

I'm the same. It's because I don't have vinegar at home, aside from red wine and balsamic types and it feels wrong for chips. I don't really put vinegar on anything at home. It's very much a chipper condiment.

To Clarify

A "chipper" is a club that some folks who play golf carry in their bag because they are nae very good round about the greens with using a wedge or any other traditional golf club. the monstrosity of a thing looks a bit like bladed putter but with a sloped face and is known as a "chipper"

A "chippy" is a deep frying food establishment where you can order a Mock-Chop supper or anything else that tickles your fancy...........

Back on topic, I still dont think our lot have the fight in them to be able to avoid finishing in 11th spot. After that we are in the hands of the gods, and our paly-off opponent is likely to be either Dunfermline (and we all know what happened there a few weeks ago) Partick Thistle (don't rate our chances agaisnt them either) or Arbroath (who we might just manage to scrape by against, but the chances of Arbroath being our play off opponents is pretty slim.

Doomed I tell ya doomed
