OneBrianIrvine. Posted Thursday at 21:15 Report Posted Thursday at 21:15 “Morning everyone” Can’t see a thread… Ashes almost upon us. Probably listening only for this one due to a mate dumping their TNT sport for a fire-stick. I’ve been sponging off their log in for years, it’s so selfish of them Still hugely looking forward to it though. Simply marvellous 1 Quote
manc_don Posted Thursday at 22:29 Report Posted Thursday at 22:29 Love cricket. Being in NZ, there's plenty of it and England really didn't look great in their warm up games here. I think it's going to be a whitewash in all honesty. Hopefully they can dig deep and find a few performances though, would be a shame to be a complete waste of a spectacle. 1 Quote
OneBrianIrvine. Posted Thursday at 22:56 Author Report Posted Thursday at 22:56 Well jealous of you being in NZ, only been the once but determined to get back there one day. Absolutely favourite place I’ve been. I root for England when it comes to the Ashes but foresee a whitewash as well. There’s been a strange late positivity in the England reporting but don’t see it. DonUnder Posted Friday at 04:36 Report Posted Friday at 04:36 Good first session from Oz. Starc is on fire. Hopefully it's decided day 3 so I witness it. Quote

Simply marvellous Don't think there has been a specific cricket thread ever on here as you said OBI but can't be arsed looking To be honest if there had been it would probably only have involved Manc talking to himself. He'll be delighted to have company now 1 Quote
Mason89 Posted Friday at 09:12 Report Posted Friday at 09:12 I love the cricket but the convicts keep very unsociable hours. I’ll catch all the highlights. Quote

I'm lucky enough to have got into the members enclosure so should be a Nigel free zone No doubt Jerusalem and Sweet Chariot will carry so I'll have earbuds in for the radio commentary. Weather is looking iffy though. Quote
CurlsLikeTattie Posted Friday at 11:08 Report Posted Friday at 11:08 Well, that was quite the unexpected first day! I expected them to get out quick, and Australia to just go about thier business efficiently and easily, thought they would end the day about 150/160-4. Interesting to see how the poms approach tomorrow when they get in. They have the bowling attack to take care of this. Just need to keep their heeds when batting. I also find myself backing England in the cricket, not sure why. I guess it's only really football (in the world of sport) where I f****n detest them. Quote
Jupiter Posted Friday at 18:20 Report Posted Friday at 18:20 Nobody has the patience to bat properly anymore. I blame too much one day cricket, especially that 20 over nonsense. 1 Quote

Yes, Starc was on fire, but fuck me, some of the shots attempted should have been easy blocks. Completely shafted the fans out of at least a day of cricket. I was chatting to an aussie mate and we thought it wouldn't make beyond 3 days. Christ we were wrong. Quote

I was chatting to an aussie mate and we thought it wouldn't make beyond 3 days. Christ we were wrong. I think youngsters had started to (ahem) boycott the longer format and, to an extent, 20/20 was necessary for the generations that never had to wait for the tele to warm up. The 2024 series against India was great, and the antics of Sam Konstas added to that. Since then he has shown he's not quite adult (boring) enough for test cricket and hasn't featured. The Poms got it wrong thinking they could 'Bazball' against a team that regularly beats them and has decent players in reserve. It was arrogance and stupidity. Will they learn from it? Heat and humidity in Brisbane might make it necessary. Amusing story from day 2. Some of my mates were in the section next to the Barmy Army and there was one guy pished and taking it a little too far. He was bought a hat by one of the Australian fans but refused to wear it as it was Australian merch. Apparently you could smell gammon cooking! Quote
