Panda Posted September 20 Report Posted September 20 At this stage, I just want to see a performance, something that gives an indicator that we're improving. I think we've had plenty of time on the training ground now, maybe a run of two games a week is what we need. If we're sticking with 4-2-3-1, then it can't be the same front four. Based on how they played against Motherwell, I wouldn't be against moving Keskinen to the left and starting Milanovic, and dropping Aouchiche in favour of Lazetic or Polvara. Was disappointed too with Armstrong - too many loose passes, too many fouls. He's playing like a guy who doesn't have much match sharpness unsurprisingly. Anyway, I'm actually heading up for this one. My first game of the season, so here's hoping it brings some luck. Quote
OrlandoDon Posted September 20 Report Posted September 20 Other than maybe milanovic for topi, i’d run it back, same team as today. As mentioned, we need some sort of consistency and chopping and changing, particularly in center mid, on a game basis isn’t necessary or overly helpful. There will come a time where squad rotation is needed, don’t think we are there yet. hopefully gyamfi is fit, would like to see him improve by the game, plus prefer not to see devlin on his weaker side. Obviously would rather see devlin at right back but that won’t happen. wonder if playing away will actually help us. You’d expect united to attack us, potentially leaving us space to attack them in the counter. While no team fears us, the last 3 games at pittodrie we have been the more dominant and teams have tended to counter attack us. 2-1 us, nisbet and karlsson the incentive to put the Huns bottom of the league has to be an added motivation! Jute Posted September 21 Report Posted September 21 I think one of the issues we have is that everyone knows how to deal with how we set up now so even when we are away from home teams sit in. I expect United to approach the game as if they are the away side to frustrate us. I thought it looked like Gyamfi pulled up when he was subbed so suspect we may need to make a change at left back. I am not convinced a lad who was playing left back in the lowland league for a team that conceded goals for fun will be ready for first team football for us so expect to see Devlin being played at left back. Assuming we will be sticking with the same set up I would like to Clarkson starting beside Shinnie and move Nisbet back to 10 to replace Aouchiche and play Lazetic at 9. oot work Travelling back from work flat 2-0 no dons scorer. tlg1903 Posted September 21 Report Posted September 21 Utd are a team of giants so I'm expecting Milanovic, Lazetic and possible Palaversa start. Strangely I'm feeling semi optimistic about this one, defensively we have sharpened up a lot compared to last season so I expect another tight game. First goal will be crucial but if we can get it I think it would do us the world of good. out Home RTV Home 2-1 dons Karlsson and Milanovic Quote

I guess conceding fewer goals isn't a headline grabber when you can't score or win though. But against Motherwell I did think we looked vulnerable a lot, and they exposed us far too often. That wasn't necessarily down to our back line - was more we were easy to pass through. We pressed their defence but didn't have enough bodies to press their midfield when they beat the press. The way Motherwell got back to front at times was how I expected us to be under Thelin. Motherwell's problem was their players make too many mistakes to really make it work (which is why they don't actually score much). A limit to the standard of player they can get I guess. Worryingly, Dundee United are quite similar in that they're a counter attacking team that have a bit more athleticism this season and they get at you quickly. But, we better have a plan for it, because my poor dad - not really a football fan - lives in Dundee so gets dragged along to these games on the threat of it being the only way to see his beloved son, and the last few at Tannadice have been shocking performances, so really we owe him one before he goes and gets a paternity test to see if he can get rid of me. BigAl Posted September 22 Report Posted September 22 Is Devlin still suspended for this one or was it a one game ban he received for the red against Falkirk ? If he is missing, then we potentially have an issue as looking at the way Gyamfi went off on Saturday suggested he might be out of for this one. If he is then we play Devlin @ left back and Jensen @ right back. If however Devlin was still suspended then would Thelin play Shinnie at left back or throw in Frame for his debut. In summary, I haven't got a fucking clue what'll happen with the defence tomorrow. Actually on reflection I haven't got a clue how we'll line up at all and who'll start the game for us. Normally by the point of the day before the game my optimism level has increased but not today. Have got the major fear for this and have a feeling our run will continue for another week at least, as can't see us getting anything out of Motherwell on Saturday either. Anyone wanting return flights to Athens and Prague ? At least I have free cancellation on the accommodation Out Working Red TV 3-0 No Dons scorer Off to bed in a bad mood, yet again. Quote
Jute Posted September 22 Report Posted September 22 Pretty sure it is just one game ban for Devlin and he should be clear to play tomorrow. Quote
RicoS321 Posted September 23 Report Posted September 23 I'm going to suggest the same team every week until Thelin proves me wrong by selecting it. Same goalie and back four as Saturday. Nilsen and Shinnie sitting. Karlsson, Nisbet and Keskinen, with Lazetic in front. Anything else will lose us the game. Quote

Kowalski Posted September 23 Report Posted September 23 Clarkson injured or got delayed travelling back from the Ballon D’or? Quote
OrlandoDon Posted September 23 Report Posted September 23 Hmm, polvara at 10, or Armstrong? Didn’t expect this lineup. Good to see gyamfi fit. Quote
baggy89 Posted September 23 Report Posted September 23 (edited) for a 1st minute injury for Jensen. If I have to witness that boy choose to receive a pass on the half turn rather than on the front-foot, allow his man to set, then feint a run outside then inside before passing it backwards, one more fucking time… Edited September 23 by baggy89 Spelling Quote
BigAl Posted September 23 Report Posted September 23 Line up.as reported on BBC Scotland. Surely this is a crock of shite Quote
