  1. As I said elsewhere tonight, this time last year we'd played 8 league games and had 8 points. This year so far we've played 7 and have 7 points. Not much of a difference.

    To compare, 2007:

    Utd - L

    Hearts - D

    Celtic - L

    Hibs - D

    Killie - W

    Well - L

    Rangers - L

    Gretna - W

    2008:

    ICT - L

    Well - W

    Rangers - D

    St Mirren - W

    Hamilton - L

    Utd - L

    Celtic - L

It's not anything like some people are making out, some people need to relax. It's a new team, new players. Pretty much an entire new midfield trying to get settled in.

thats a good point on the points this and last seasons,  but isnt pre-season the time for players to get settled.

  2. Picking on Foster for being shit is like having a go at the Down's Syndrome kid at school for coming out last in the spelling test. His manager has let him down big time by playing him out of position not for one or two games, but for an entire season (and probably two seasons, if we don't sign a RB pronto). How many players would put up with being totally mishandled, with the result being that they becomes the fans' scapegoat week in, week out?

Foster deserves some credit for not telling JC to shove his full back positions up his overweight, over-tanned arse, and at least giving his all in a position where most other players simply wouldn't bother at all.

The worst perforrmance - relative to capability - was Mark Kerr by a country mile. I hope to Christ that there is a hell of a lot more to come from him.

Foster probably doesnt say anything to him because he's just chuffed to be in the team.

Its plain for most to see he just isnt good enough. He shouldnt be the only one to take the fall for saturday though.

  3. I happen to agree that (bar Miller) Lovell was our best (most natural) striker.

However, in order to score goals you need to be on the field in the first place.

The return we got from Lovell in terms of goals and performances was utter garbage, hence no qualms about not carrying him any longer.

i suggest you go look at the goals to games ratios for Mackie, Lovell, Miller and Maguire in their time here together.

    Lovell comes out top. (just)

If Lovell signs for Hibs then i can see him and fletcher bagging quite a few together whilst we will have to make do with another season of Darren Mackie telling us every 4 weeks in the EE that he will solve our goal drout.

  4. Just got back in from the game Where to start on what was a night of rip roaring, action packed football just like Dundee! ::);)

First half spent in the stand but moved due to filthy hun tracksuit wearing scum sitting behind us shouting fenian ****** at Diamond and would probably end up getting myself kicked out because of the little shite!

Second half i decided to stand beside JC and co at the touchline just so i could gauge what he actually tells/instructs the players during the game, fuck me what a mistake that was!

    Players first though -

Langfield - Very impressed by the way he marshalled his defence, contsantly on top of them and thought he did ok except a dodgy kick out in the second half.

Foster - Passing was absolutly shocking and despite JC having a pop at him he continued to be pish and still pass badly. Couple of runs up the wind but nothing to get excited about.

Mulgrew - Great free kick in the first half that smacked the bar, did well and looked ok going forward. Moved to central defence in second half when Diamond went off.

Diamond - Had a bit of a shocker and hooked shortly into the second half. Looked very pissed off when he came off. Had a strapping/tubigrip round his right leg so not sure if this was part of the reason he came off or not?

Considine - Few slip up;s but i thought he had a pretty decent game to be honest. Wild shot over the bar in the second half that i thought he could have done better with.

JDV - he is not a football player, end of. His missus has just had a kid, nae sleep blah blah blah. Why start with him then??? He moved that slow i think he was carrying his new kid under his fucking shirt. Pish and rightly hooked at half time.

Young - Excellent goal and run around a lot, probably our best player which says it all.

Kerr - Thought he did well and passed the ball about well.

Smith - Started well and hit the post with a rasping shot but drifted out the game badly in the second half.

Mackie - Pish again and never looked like scoring.

Miller - Few decent knock downs and flicks but again nothing spectacular.

    Subs:

Smith - Did well and slotted in at left back with Mulgrew coming into the centre. Looks a decent prospect.

Pawlett - Thought he did well and looked lively when he came on. Hopefully another good young prospect.

Bebo - Not on long enough to do much, except run about a lot as usual.

    Stweart - See above.

There was a continental gentlemen (im not allowed to call him what i did tonight or Mizer will tell me off) ;) on the bench, French and a centre back but never came on. Looked as skinny as a rake for a CB though.

Jimmy - My god what a sight he is to watch close up!! He stood there huffing and puffing, throwing his arms up in the air doing half spins like some 80's raver who had just double dropped at Traks' at Mintlaw on a Saturday night! His instructions consisted of telling Foster to sort out his passing (well that worked well) and telling "Kerrzer" to drop back. Shouting out random players names but appearing to give no clear instruction to them. That and pointing at random people and then shaking his head or doing more arm flapping actions or huffing and puffing. It was quite a sight to see and i believe Mizer tried to video it as proof as we both found it highly amusing to watch.

Now before anyone has a pop NOT ONCE on here have i ever slagged off our manager but if thats the way he is managing the players and shouting instructions during a game then its no wonder we have been thumped by Peterheid and were very poor again tonight against what i though was a well organised and physically fit Brechin side. You would have though we would have been the fitter of the two teams towards the end of the game but that didnt appear to be the case IMO and Brechin had a couple of half chances. Overall a wins a win but we have a MASSIVE amount of work to do before the season starts. :-\

Jimmy acted in the exact same way against Peterhead. I was right behind him and couldnt understand alot of what he says.

  5. A. Well why not just dig out the old thread and continue it?

    B. Until such time as the management/board feel he's surplus to requirements, it would seem so

    C. You're not the manager though, thank f*ck for that

    wow, great response.

tell me what would you rather we did? continue with Mackie perhaps?

  6. Do we have to have this thread every 3 months?

He's proved in the past he can score 13 and 15 goals in a season.

We're stuck with him until we get somebody better.  Tommy Wright might be the man, but by all accounts he could be a similar type player to Lee Miller.

    1. maybe theres a reason theres a thread like this every 3 months - mackie is mince. I actually noticed that all 3 AFC fans boards have one at the moment.

    2. yes he has scored in the past but does this mean we have to wait fro the next time he does it and put up with the headless chicken routine till such time arrives.

    3. not stuck with him at all. I'd rather play Maguire or put Jamie smith in just behind Lee Miller.

  7. As well as the ex-Falkirk French defender we have on trial who was deemed not good enough for a new contract at French 2nd division side Guingamp, we'll also have Dyon Camero on trial with us in Holland. He spent a week at Pittodrie back in April and has been playing for a Dutch amateur team since. Can't say they sound too promising.

same same old from the tanned man.

goes to holland every year, takes on dutch trialist who turns out to be shit.

  8. With all due respect phil.

We have tried these things before and they continue to fail, we all knew what was going to happen at peterhead once that team was announced.

Heres a cunning plan that might fox the opposition how about we try for a couple of games at least to play players in their strongest positions.

Try maguire and miller upfront as it looks like we are going to need maguire this season.

Try mackie on the bench - see how he fits into that role

i wouldnt even have mackie on the bench. i'd loan him out to Nairn.

Maguire's development as a striker is being hampered as jimmy persisits with Mackie.

JC should have known what the rest of us has known for abput a year now. Mair, Foster, Mackie and Duff are shit.

  9. How many more transfers do folk reckon we need to be able to compete for 3rd and push for a cup?

I'd say a minimum of a CB, a striker and left sided midfielder.

Crying out for an experienced CB to play alongside Zander, JC is gambling on Seve slotting in, but an injury to him and we have to rely on the unpredictable Mair and Considine. No point making this the likes of the boy Cork fae Chelsea. Its gotta be a seasoned pro, somebody like Frazer Wright.

Having secured a left footed left back, a left sided player ala Aluko is a must, maybe Hammil fae Liverpool.

Finally a striker to replace Lovell. Doubt the guy Wright is right, would love us to take a gamble on Thompson fae Linfield. Needs to be capable of 10 goals a season to take the pressure aff Bebo.

I'd be quite happy with the squad then, dont see RB as much of a problem with Duff or Foster able to play there. A couple of loan signings to cover for injuries and we are laughing.

centre back and striker for me and judging by northsounds report we are about to sign Tommy Wright

  10. United: Amos, Woods; Neville, Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic, O'Shea, Silvestre, Simpson; Carrick, Scholes, Fletcher, Hewson, Martin, Gibson, Eagles; Rooney, Giggs, Campbell

is this the squad they are taking up??

dam it, i wnated to see Tevez in action. brilliant player.

  11. anytime we sign a player for any money its going to be difficult for him.

as soon as he has a few games without a goal or decent performance we will have the usual moaners with "what a waste of transfer fee's" etc.

I just get annoyed at the fact AFC can only be linked with the likes of Thomson and Wright due to the state of the club.

  12. I don't understand this one at all?  Â£100,000 is a helluva a lot of money for us... this guy must surely be a good prospect?  However, at the same time this is a player who can't get his game for a team in the lower reaches of the coca-cola leagues.  If he's not good enough for league 2, surely he's not worth spending £100,000 on... or is he?

Has anyone actually seen him play?

if we have actually bid £100k for him then JC is taking a big risk on this one. as you say£100k is big money to us so if this guy ends up shyte then JC will lose even more fans.
