Fuck me! A bunch of pessimistic, psychiatrists and mind readers on here.

Am I delighted by NW, no.

Do I think it’s a publicity exercise or puss take, no.

Do I think Warnock will take it seriously, yes.

Do I think he’ll pick our best team (once he gets a chance to figure that out) yes.

Do I think he has the capability to have a plan B, C, or D during games, yes.

He’s a better chance for us finishing higher up the league than Barry, and if he puts his boot up Cormack’s arse (nothing to lose, no need to be a yes man) maybe that’s the best part of this appointment.

I trust him to be professional (regardless of how he presents to the weejia) and do his best with us.

Not a happy clapper by any means, but I’m not pissing in my nappy either!

Excellent post. I’m honestly unclear as to what specifically about Warnock has got a couple on here quite so angry.

That Clarke would leave Scotland for Aberdeen is nonsensical and I can't believe it's a. odds that short and b.  that anyone would be dense enough to bet on it.

Lennon though 🤦‍♂️They must know this will go down like a lead balloon if it happens. I'm starting to wonder if the whole warnock thing was a red herring from the start and purely to make lennon seem more appealing.  He isn't exactly popular within the Aberdeen support but, then, neither was Brown and I don't remember anyone sitting down in the Aberdeen end when he scored at mordor.

The biggest problem I would suggest with appointing lennon is that he inevitably falls out with everyone within a few years.  To be fair some of his teams have played some decent football, hibs in particular were fun to watch when he was in charge. Would that be enough to appease a relatively hostile from the off support should he come in and start getting crowds off their feet? Perhaps...... but only temporarily though and he would be turned on quickly at the first wobble.

    What an absolute mess.

Agree on Clarke. Never happening, even if he left the national team he wouldn’t end up here.

No mess yet tho, the Lennon stuff is media and bookie speculation so not worth worrying about.

Good post. I actually agree. I also believe that the first step should be increasing the support to the manager, which has the dual effect of providing for the next guy too, if the need arise.

If Robson is wrong then he's a symptom of the actual problem rather than the problem itself. Changing manager is another sticking plaster until the structure of the club is changed. Forgive the obvious analogy but we're kinda similar to Man Utd in that regard and against that backdrop I don't think it's particularly fair to heap all the blame on a manager in his first job.

  4. Unless relegation becomes an issue - which it won't this season - I'm a believer in giving a manager a full season to see how things play out, rather than react in periods of relative isolation. Especially when your manager is young and/or inexperienced.

It's a big if, but beat Dundee tomorrow and we're six points off fourth. With the memory of how the second half of last season panned out, sacking a manager who did alright in Europe, has been in one cup final already and is still challenging for a European place could be viewed as mental or, more realistically, just repeating the same old pattern that has failed us since McInnes came to the end of his time.

I'm aware I'm in a minority here but I'm ok with zooming out and taking a longer term, big picture view and giving Robson getting the rest of this season to see how he fares.

  5. Mikey Johnston would be a good signing if it was permanent and not another loan. I don't think it's realistic though as he's an international and I reckon would get offered more money elsewhere.

If we go to four at the back permanently then I don't think we need a right back as we've an abundance of centre backs, so using Gartenmann and Milne to cover for Devlin should be fine. Not like we've got too many games where we'd need to rotate the team either.

As Rico says, width is what we need if we're going 4-5-1 from now on.

Wayne Rooney emptied by Birmingham City after 15 games.

Sixth when he was hired, 20th now. A joke of an appointment and if you were a Birmingham fan you’d be wanting the clown(s) who appointed him gone as well.

The reaction of the player is what's key though, isn't it? I don't remember Gartenmann going down like he'd been speared in the back (although he does like a dive with minimal contact), whereas the Hun did, causing the check. Shirt holding is not a foul, impeding a player is, so Gartenmann should have thrown himself in the air (headbutting a Hun in the process) and then claimed.

Exactly that. For all most people - probably justifiably - complain when players throw themselves to the ground at the tiniest of contact, they've really got to if they won't get the decision if they don't. Poor officiating is the cause but Gartenmann should have gone down yesterday and given the officials as decision to make.

I disagree, he's never had a proper chance Rico.  He's had 7 caps and played the 90 minutes once.  The last four caps were 1 minute last night, 4 minutes last week, 1 minute against Spain in March and 3 minutes against Slovakia in 2020.  It's nonsense like that which makes players walk away from the international squad.

He's also shite so that's surely got to be taken into consideration?

Does bojan dive yes but there’s a hand/push in the back. No reliable var review??

That’s a penalty in every country bar Scotland (excluding the home penalty boxes at ibrox and parkhead).

Robinson like a typical fast talking Scottish league manager that can lift a side for a season or so,but can't sustain it. He's done better at Saints than I expected though, but judge him at the end of the season.

Question for me is,if Robson wins the Hibs game well on Saturday, does he buy himself to the January window...

He's here until Christmas anyway... a cup semi is acceptable - albeit the bare minimum - and we're a game in hand away from 4th place. Against the backdrop of basically a whole new team and the distraction of Europe then he's doing alright, if not exactly setting the world on fire.

That's the issue I was getting at. I don't think it is the model Cormack backs, hence getting rid of McInnes. As @wokinginashearerwonderland mentions, we've got all the building blocks in place, but for a system that involves a good director of football above an up and coming young coach (unlike Agnew, who is answerable to Robson). Robson and Glass were in their first roles, with Goodwin still relatively inexperienced. Cormack has always talked about succession planning and not ripping up everything and starting again each time we get a manager, which I agree with, but that means Gunn has a really important role and the evidence of the last three appointments (Gunn wasn't dof for all those) suggests that he's either not intimately involved in the football side (save for transfers perhaps), or he's not really helping. All three young managers have struggled with basic errors and repeated errors. McInnes had those, but we're usually borne out of pragmatism and caution and he got results.

I see no reason why we can't treat our managers like we do our players. Take on inexperienced guys with a view to building their reputation and experience and sell on. That's, de facto, what we're doing with the three Cormack appointments. By not providing them a complete platform though, we're effectively ruining their careers before they've started. Had Goodwin not, inexplicably, got the utd job he'd have been looking at a long spell in mid table championship. Glass is now walking in Memphis and Robson will be taking on Inverurie if he gets binned. That's not a record to be proud of. Whether any of them recognise it or not, they need help from above and to be continually challenged to really think about what they're doing and why. All three got stuck in a rut of doing the same thing week after week. Almost like they're paralysed in a state of indecision.

The alternative is, of course, the experienced manager. That costs serious money and is limited to the guys that are available at the time of sacking/new appointment. Personally, I prefer the young manager with experienced help. Cormack seems to want the inexperienced manager without the help, which doesn't seem to be working. I think we're largely in agreement though.

I'd agree with your thinking in principle but if we can't find or afford a decent experienced manager, who are we getting to be the young guy's boss? Craigie Broon was the man for the job and probably did it with McInnes but who's kicking about like that now and - probably most importantly - does Cormack know where to find them?

  12. Ibrox in particular is 100 times the stadium Hampden is. Better accessibility, better potential to create an atmosphere and a better view of the game.

I’d still knock the fucker down in a heartbeat tho…

    devlin shinnie clarkson mcgrath mcgarry

    duk miovski

Can’t be far off our strongest team, you could debate McDonald for ruby and one of the new boys for duk but otherwise it’s about as good as we could put out. No excuses today.

    COYR.

  14. I'm in agreement with those who say we need a Ramadani replacement, particularly if we're going to continue with three at the back. Without another covering midfielder, we'll struggle every time we play a good team.

It's early days in the season and I'm still confident that the team will come together - and that when it does we'll be better than last season and comfortably the third best team in the league.
