Being honest, they've had just a couple of months to thrash out a deal. Setanta agreed the original deal when they had BBC and Sky competing for the rights. Now, though, I doubt that there'd be many bidders for the SPL rights, so ESPN can bid whatever they like. So long as it's £1 more than what BBC can offer, they'll get it.

Couldnae gie a shite who does the coverage. But it would be nice if ESPN managed to get a few Dons games a year. It'll be better than the elaborate setup I've got just now whereby the game gets beamed to me through some Chinese streaming software that I cannae read (I flick through about 40 worldwide sports channels each time before I find the Dons game), then linking up my computer to my TV by s-video cable and watching the game in horrible block-o-vision because of the poor streaming speeds. The last game I watched in crystal clear LIVE vision was the Bayern game at Pittodrie cos it was somehow on ESPN over here. Somehow! But I would like to put a request into whichever firm wins the rights. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE hire someone else to do your hosting and punditry. Jim White and Champagne Charlie should not be options on anyones lists!

To me, reading this latest article, the only thing they can do him for was doing 90mph in the contraflow section. That's fine and points on your licence ... not a ban. I'm still wondering where the cash is coming from. Got to wonder if the Marr Brothers are still involved (even at arm's length) at Dens. That pair of crooks seemed to find money where there was none ... and wouldn't be surprised if some of the money for these signings is coming out of some of the Marr brothers' businesses (if they've still got any business left).

I'm all for this, but I'm being selfish. I've not been able to view live SPL matches on normal television since Setanta won the rights some five or six years ago, cos Setanta doesn't broadcast to New Zealand. Even in Australia, anyone wanting to air any Setanta channels has to pay a crazy 4-figure monthly sum. But ESPN is not only available here, it's available on FREEVIEW!!! Halle-fuckin-lujah. And if Sky Sports decide they're gonna show the Old Firm matches, then even better. Means I'll never have to switch to Sky Sports ever again.

Okay. Here's a news article in the Daily Express (why did I even bother). I've read it and read it and looked at the picture, and I can't fathom what's going on. Firstly, the heading talks about McGhee wanting to return. Then the first paragraph talks about Jim Paterson. The quote attributed to the first paragraph about Paterson appears to be talking about Stephen Hughes. And then the photograph ... I can't even figure out who it is. but I'm sure Reebok have nothing to do with either Aberdeen or Motherwell. Are we playing Cluedo or what?

A shame really. Probably the most talented player at Pittodrie over the past couple of seasons. If McGhee was able to get to the bottom of his injury problems, then who knows. Oh well, Drewsome may get to see the best of Jamie if he signs for Toronto FC.

Cracking player when he was on-form. More often than not ran the show in midfield or completely silenced the opposition in defence. It's just unfortunate that he was a shit captain, as that (along with the hissy-fit he had after the Bayern game) tarnished my memories of him. However, I'll never ever forget the thundering goals he scored that had even the best of keepers well beaten - the best and arguably most memorable being his goal in the 2-0 win over the huns two years ago that helped us ease into Europe.

I know it's nae exactly the best ever ... but Mark Perry vs Celtic. Absolute peach of a goal from just inside the halfway line that nobody (Perry included) knew much about. Perry must've tried about six times after that to replicate that goal, and every single one ended up in the stands - although which stand varied on which effort!

I agree with FJ. AFCchat was set up originally as direct competition to DonsTalk by a clutch of users who had become banned from DonsTalk for completely ruining the site with their views, spamming and general childish behaviour that succeeded in many users either leaving DT for other sites (such as Aberdeen Mad) or just giving up on AFC forums altogether. Now that it is in the hands of new owners, we've got absolutely no problems with AFCchat. I don't know if they have problems with us, cos quite frankly I don't care if they do. But the Red Army has often had complete opposite factions, not just on forums. There are those who will never go into the RDU cos of the idiots there. There are those from the RDU who will never go near the South Stand because of the idiots there too. But there are people who don't really give two hoots and quite often flick between the two stands on opposing seasons because they enjoy the difference in atmosphere between the two. Same goes for DT and The Hat.

Whilst I do realise that El Padre has placed his tongue firmly in his cheek with that remark, there's no doubting that he's referring to a large number of fans who've been calling for McGhee to be the Aberdeen manager since ... since probably Christmas (some well before this too!) I'd be surprised if McGhee does stay longer than 3 years. Based on his history, I think he'll have a spectacular 1st season, a mediocre second and then a top-five finish in his third but with a cup win. This cup win will bring an end to Mowbray's Celtic career and McGhee will sign for the Tims. If he stays longer than three years, it won't be because he's done a fantastic job at Aberdeen, it'll be because he's not been the messiah that we all think he'll be.

Being honest, I say good riddance to Seve. He's far too inconsistent for us to afford. When he's on his game, he probably the best midfielder we've had since ... probably since Craig Hignett. But that day is only seen once every 3 or 4 months. Seve, I'm sorry we couldn't see the best of you more often. As such, farewell.

Interesting article in the Scotsman by Michael Portillo ... err I mean Alan Pattullo. Basically saying that, regardless of the comments about Celtic in the Pittodrie Press Conference, McGhee should still be made more welcome by the Red Army so long as he does a few things. Which do you reckon is the most important (up to two options)?
