  2. DONS TARGET SITE OUT OF CITY FOR STADIUM

    12:00 - 14 January 2008

The Dons could move out of the city if plans for a community stadium are thrown out.

The Evening Express can today reveal Aberdeen FC is already looking at a site in Aberdeenshire.

Club officials have approached a farmer about buying land near Portlethen.

Around 80 acres at Causeyport Farm, owned by John Shand and Sons at Duffshill, has been surveyed by the club.

The land, just off the A90 Aberdeen to Dundee road, would back on to the commercial part of the Stewart Milne development planned at Hillside.

Officials, including Aberdeen FC's managing director Duncan Fraser, have visited the site and were said to be "delighted" with what they found.

Aberdeen City Council is investigating two possible sites for a £53m community stadium which would be the new home of the Dons.

The 22,000-seat, state-of-the-art arena could be built at Loirston Loch, near Cove, or Kings Links, next to Pittodrie.

But the club is looking outwith the city in case the community stadium plans break down.

Dons media officer Dave Macdermid said: "All we are doing is exploring our options.

"The preferred one is to move to a community stadium at a site chosen with Aberdeen City Council.

"But we have to have alternatives in case that isn't approved. Pittodrie has a limited lifespan, so it would be foolish of us not to look for some sort of back up plan."

Alexander Shand, who lives at Causeyport Farm, said: "People from Aberdeen FC have been out to see the land and there could be land available.

"But I don't know what is going to happen just now."

Aberdeen chiefs have said they need to move before the 2011/12 season begins.

But if the club opted for the land near Portlethen they would not be able to share the construction bill with Aberdeen City Council.

Councillor Neil Cooney, whose ward takes in the Loirston site, said: "We couldn't contribute to a site outside Aberdeen city for a community stadium."

The Dons and the council are jointly funding a £600,000 feasibility study into building the stadium.

The scheme could also see a football academy, hotel and conference facilities created by 2011.

some coos, used jonnies from doggers and a bad smell from the slaughterhoose and battery hen farm will keep anyone "delighted"

  3. with the meagre and very variable finances available to afc year on year, it's not possible to sign a player up for a contract that will run 5 years into the future.  A dismal cup run, and low league finish may mean that the club has to rely on increasing debt to get by, not an attractive solution.

  4. whats all this pish about heart in it, wanting to go elsewhere for more money

well, duh, they are doing a job, nothing more, nothing less.  You committed to your company so much that you won't go else where for a bigger pay cheque.  Get Real.

  5. so what if he did.  he is allowed to have an opinion and allowed to voice it.  If he had acted upon his words, then that would not have been allowed.

It's no worse than someone who works for BP saying "I hate Mr X that works for Shell, I'm going to get him later".

  6. What I want to know is if he was going to "take ferguson out" why did he not drop to the floor like a rangers player when ferguson grabbed his throat.

That has to be the best oppertunity he had, no? ???

to is benefit, all he did was laugh when that happened.

Nothing more humiliating to someone then when they go to have a go at you, you just laugh in their face at their efforts.

  7. Who drove Simmie out of Scottish football. Not Aberdeen or the tackle. It was only a tackle that was a wee bit unfortunate; the ball moved and Durrants knee was in the way, but the leg breakers that fuckwit and others tried to put in our players were ok in the game were they? The wankers in the West coast press and Rangers hounded him out.  They still constantly go on about Durrant etc, so fuck em.....have it back with interest.

nah, I beleive there was a lot of malice in that tackle, if you seen it (or the photos of it) you would change your mind.
