  1. right so, hang on.... i'm confused.

According to this BBC story,  Sevco have said the Hat, his assman and the chief scout have all resigned, but they have all denied this?

The Scottish Premiership club say they have accepted the resignations of Warburton, assistant David Weir and head of recruitment, Frank McParland.

But Warburton, who took charge in 2015, told BBC Scotland he has not stood down and was unaware of the statement.

Reading further, it sounds like the three of them approached Sevco to negotiate their release for the Nott Forest jobs, and Sevco agreed to waive wanting compensation.  Then they didn't get the jobs, but Sevco saw an opportunity to sack them without paying THEM compensation, and accepted their previous resignations?

That's too funny

I'm pretty sure Deek has more sense than to touch this lot with Willo's hathanger.

  2. Saw these two in the BBC gossip section, looks like Sevco's much-heralded chief scout is dumping them, but Sevco are busy trying to make it look like they are sacking him

Rangers chief scout Frank McParland is set to quit' date=' throwing into doubt the long-term future of manager Mark Warburton. McParland has been left frustrated by the lack of backing he feels his manager has received in the transfer market.[/quote']

Unhappy with the value for money offered by Joey Barton, the crocked duo of Niko Kranjcar and Jordan Rossiter, and more recent captures including Philippe Senderos and Joe Garner, senior club figures at Ibrox believe a revamp of the scouting operation is essential if Rangers are to get closer to Celtic next season.

  3. Yes but interesting to note who gave the assist for the goal - the much maligned Taylor.

If that's an assist then he'll need to split it with Joe Lewis - they were the only ones to touch the ball, which didn't even hit the ground between one goalkick and goal.

  4. Great find manc.

On the ethics, I have no problem with the work of Cambridge Analytica. Specific target marketing isn't new. It's the methods that have changed and why wouldn't they?

The bigger issue is the population, too lazy to inform themselves and too thick to understand and who are vulnerable to buying whatever they're told to buy. Very clever stuff on one hand but sinister on another. Have the population been dumbed down deliberately? The evidence would appear to say yes.

The problem is not targeted marketing per se, but how it is used and by who.  Traditional advertising is regulated to avoid falsehoods, exaggerations and exploitation of vulnerable audiences (eg. children).  Social media combined with big data analysis allows for deliberately seeking out vulnerable target audiences and then feeding them any "alternative facts" you like to influence their views and, most importantly, is completely unregulated.

This is abhorrent enough when the marketer is a corporation trying to sell a commercial product, but is becomes truly worrying when the marketer is not trying to sell toothpaste or an iphone, but is instead aiming to influence political, cultural and social opinion for their own gain - this is manipulation of the lowest form.

And just a minor point as an example from which you can draw your own conclusions - Steve Bannon is a board member of Cambridge Analytica.  If a government interrogating your data to feed you lies that play on your worst fears and steer your reactions would be (rightly) viewed as fascist, authoritarian and reprehensible, what about individual politicians now seated on the US National Security Council?.

  5. Loan Summary for w/e 4/2/17:

Cammy Smith got an assist in St Mirren's 2-2 draw with Dumbarton, in which Smith, Storie and Harvie all played the full 90 minutes.

Danny Rogers had a clean sheet for Falkirk's 2-0 win over Dunfermline, while Lawrence Shankland was a start for Morton's 3-0 loss to QoS.

No sign of Scott McKenna in team or bench for Ayr Utd, but Dylan Thomas got a 7 minute runout for L2 Montrose.

Finally, Aaron Lennox is still out counting his teeth, after taking a boot to the face in a bounce match back in January and gaining a fractured jaw.

  6. The threshold for cause to award a yellow card would have to be upped massively, or it would be the death of the game.

The average number of cards per match in Scotland is roughly 4, so that would be 4 10-minute spells of uneven teams over 90 minutes every game.

The Sevco-Dons match in December had 11 cards (9 yellows, 2 reds) - that's 9 players off the pitch for 10 minutes at a time, not counting the reds (which admittedly were at the end).
