Expecting big things from him this season, but he just doesn’t seem to be doing it. Is it a case of us not deploying him correctly to get the best of him or is he a bit average? He’s clearly got the skills in his locker but we don’t seem to see it often enough. Thoughts?

He was good up until Considine hoofed him at the weekend, then he went out of it. He generally had the better of the St Johnstone right back for most of the game though. He's decent, but he's just not quite quick enough for a lot of what is expected on the wing and probably doesn't have the physical strength required either. That could come and we'll have a very good player. He's good on the ball, has a good strike and can put in a good cross (although inconsistent). I'm on the fence with him, but he's good enough to start at the moment and if we just have a player that can raise the standard of the overall squad for a few years without setting the heather alight, that's fine. He's not a failure so far either.

Besuijen to return from loan

ABERDEEN winger Vicente Besuijen will return to Pittodrie after Finnish club HJK Helsinki opted not to exercise an option to buy the 24-year-old.

Besuijen has been on loan at the Finnish top-flight club since July.

HJK Helsinki's season finished on Sunday with a 2-0 home loss to KuPS in the Veikkausliiga.

Besuijen set up the winning goal in the Finnish Cup final win against KuPS in September, but made only 18 appearances during his loan.

HJK Helsinki boss Ossi Virta has opted not to trigger a right-to-buy clause on the Aberdeen winger who will now return to the Granite City.

Besuijen was signed by Aberdeen from Dutch club ADO Den Haag in January 2022 on a four-and-a-half year deal for 500,000 Euros (£440,000).

However, he has failed to hold down a regular starting slot and spent loan spells at Dutch clubs Excelsior Rotterdam and Emmen.

Besuijen's Aberdeen contract expires at the end of the season.

In almost four years at Aberdeen the winger has made only 57 appearances, with 32 of those starts.

Besuijen has scored 11 times for the Dons.

Markus Kitunen, a HJK expert, said last month he would have been surprised if the club opted to take up the option to sign Besuijen permanently.

He hasn't really provided that much of an impact that you would see him as a definite 'we need to sign this guy for next season'," he said.

"I think even if you could get him for free, it would still be really surprising.

Besuijen is another of these players that does the odd thing that makes you think that there is a player in there but never does it with any consistency. You can accept that in a young player who is developing but he’s not a young player anymore. Think it’s best for both parties for him to be moved on.

I'd forgotten about him.

Four years in January he has been with us.

In his time, he has had three loans away from the club and not one followed up with an offer.

I do actually think he is a decent enough player, but just not happened or even happening with us.

Disappointing really, think that's how you can describe his time with us. Promised a good amount and it's not happening for him (with or without us). As Jute says, best for all concerned if we just part ways.
