This is the logical explanation. Maybe Atlanta get some complicated tax/salary cap benefit from loaning a player instead of buying him directly. We got to have a Venezuelan international at the club for free. You could argue it makes sense for both clubs unless it blows up in our face at some point. Report
December 2, 20214 yr comment_239474 Our American overlords have said that Hernandez’s loan terminates at end of December and article below does not say that they will extending or taking him on permanently. https://www.atlutd.com/news/atlanta-united-announces-year-end-roster-moves-2021-ronald-hernandez-cubo-torres Report

January 11, 20224 yr comment_240220 He was in the MLS Re-Entry draft list in December (players over 22 whose contract hadn't been extended by current club i.e. Atlanta). The list said there was an option, so presumably the loan deal (which is with MLS, not Atlanta) could be extended if another MLS club wanted him. He wasn't picked up in that draft, but is now made available to all MLS clubs on first come, first served basis. No idea how long that remains open for. Report

January 18, 20224 yr comment_240370 Genuinely surprised the Scottish press haven’t actually looked into this, especially given it’s almost a gimmie to stick the boot into the club. Report
