Aberdeen v Hamilton Accies Match Thread

Aberdeen loan signings Alan Maybury and Josh Walker are in line to make their debuts against Hamilton at Pittodrie.

Jamie Smith, Sone Aluko, Richie Byrne, Karim Touzani are sidelined for the Dons, while Stuart Duff is ineligible.

Hamilton's new signings, Andrew Waterworth and James Grady, could make their debuts for the Division One side.

Simon Mensing is almost certain to return to a side that will be missing skipper Alex Neil and defender Chris Swailes through suspension.

The BBC commentary is quality!

"I suspect Jimmy Calderwood will be giving his players a roasting at half time"

"Roasting but not in the sense usually associated with top class footballers"

we never had such small crowds when we were shit(er)

Josh Walker was excellent, everyone else was shocking, especially Lee Miller.

Walker looks really good especially for his age, really glad we got him in and he really deserved a goal today aswell, only made 5 mistakes the whole game and also looked very hungry and eager to do well.

Thought miller wasna that great but maybe saving himself for tuesday or maybe not 100% match fit?

He's very well thought of down there. Good signing!

Nae wishing to be overly defensive of Miller, but given some of his performances of late, I guess we can let him off with the odd poor performance

so he'll be dropped for tuesday then?

Walker's ineligible to play on Tuesday anyway. He wasn't a Dons player when the original match was supposed to go ahead. This is the very reason Brechin got dumped out of the Scottish Cup.

Did we not sign him the day of the game and have him in the squad for the original game?

And does that rule not only apply for the Scottish Cup?

Yeah he was in squad for original game so must be. Maybury will be ineligible though?

Eligibility of Players

8. Players taking part in the Competition must be registered in terms of Scottish Football League Rules or

Scottish Premier League Rules as appropriate.

8.1 No Club shall play, or list as a named substitute, any player who, in the same season, has already

played or been a named substitute for another Club, in the Competition.

8.2 It shall be the responsibility of each Club participating in the Competition to ensure that its

players are eligible to play in any League Cup match. If a player participates in a League Cup match,

such player being ineligible to play in the Cup match as a result of his suspension by The Scottish

Football Association or for any other reason, the Club for which the player participates in the

League Cup match shall be liable to such penalty as the Management Committee may decide.

8.3 Any Club infringing this Rule may be disqualified from the Competition and the tie awarded to

its opponent.

Yeah he was in squad for original game so must be. Maybury will be ineligible though?

Nah he is ok to play, the rules are different between the CIS cup and the Scottish cup, thankfully he will play and no duff or mair on the right. ;D

Walker played a stormer today but clearly is a defensive midfielder as got a nose bleed every time he got near Hamilton's 18 yard box, despite this, still a stand out player and a real coup in landing him.

Oh and Duff is still shocking.

Josh Walker was excellent, everyone else was shocking, especially Lee Miller.

Sounded on the radio like Langfield saved our asses on several occasions. Was he shocking ?

No, Langfield was good, didn't even fuck up any kicks, my comments were more directed at the outfield players.

Josh Walker was excellent, everyone else was shocking, especially Lee Miller.

Personally, i'd have had Seve, Barry, JDV, Mackie and Duff ahead of Miller in the shite stakes yesterday. However, Miller seemed to have himself hell bent on getting sent off. Some of his challenges were shocking. The one he got booked for we thought he could have seen red, he blatantly swung a punch at one defender and could have given away numerous penalties at set pieces with his downright amateurish holding of players in the box. Mackie hasn't improved since he got injured and his second touch was (as usual) a tackle - and generally a late one - more often than not. Lovell at least put in the effort when he got on, but suffered (as usual) from our desparate long ball hoofing.

Seve's too slow and ponderous. He's not the player he thinks he is and needs to concentrate on finding a player with a simple pass and keeping possession, rather than his usual two moves: a chipped/hoofed ball up to Miller, bypassing the midfield completely or taking it for a walk through midfield, losing it and blaming everyone around him for not asking for passes, when he had no intention of giving it to them anyway.

When we signed Duff, Jimmy said he was not a good defender. Debut, in midfield, he gives away a goal. Second game, into defence he goes. Why Jimmy? Why would you do that to someone who needs to build his confidence if he is to have any hope in winning over the fans...?

Barry was apparently carrying an injury and was a doubt right up to kick off, so i'll probably let him off with his performance. JDV was pish though. I really like him and think he's got everything he needs (except pace) to be a big success, but he just plain didn't fancy it yesterday, and that's not good enough.

Still, at the end of the day, we didn't slip up and got into the hat for the next round. That's the main thing.
