At the moment we are in a state where a team can field an uneligible player, and the only time this is flagged up is when another team gets knocked out and complains about it. Hypothetical situation, but say Aberdeen get all the way to the final and win the cup but have fielded an 'illegal' player. Do we replay all the matches? Or would Aberdeen forfeit the cup? Either way it would be a complete clusterfuck, yet could all be avoided if someone with half the computer skills of your good self kept a simple spreadsheet/database. And I was just pointing out that surely Hamilton would be less likely to know who they had signed than the SFA, since the SFA would have to approve any move? As I have said, it is down to the club, in this case Brechin, not the SFA. The clubs know the rules. Too many players moving at this time of year for the SFA to have a proper handle on it. Kowalski Posted January 31, 2008 Author Share Posted January 31, 2008 BRECHIN ARE NOW IN DOUBLE TROUBLE Brechin City may now be thrown out of the Scottish Cup after fielding not one but two ineligible players against Hamilton Accies at Glebe Park on Monday. And that means that Aberdeen could have a game after all this weekend as Hamilton would be awarded the tie and thus be able to head for Pittodrie. Brechin sensationally beat First Division leaders Accies 2-1 after extra time in a Scottish Cup replay. But yesterday City were fined £10,000 and told to replay the tie because loan Don Michael Paton was ineligible as he was not signed at the time of the original tie, which ended 0-0 at New Douglas Park on January 12. Last night, however, it was discovered that defender Willie Dyer was also ineligible. Dyer had been on loan from St Johnstone, but registered as a full Brechin player only recently. Now the SFA will be forced to convene its emergency committee for a second time in two days. It will meet at Hampden today to consider what steps to take next. It could increase the fine or choose to dump Brechin out of this season?s Scottish Cup ? allowing Hamilton to progress to a fifth-round tie at Aberdeen on Saturday. Seems a bit late in the day to be sorting this out. Doesn't personally bother me whether there's now a game on Saturday but presume its a headache for supporters clubs organising buses if the game is back on? As a consequence of this breach, the Committee decided that Brechin City be removed from this season's Scottish Cup Competition. He plays for the dons and signed for Brechin after the date of the first game!" as soon as he sees that name? Get a grip eh? Team lines require to have the date on which the player 's contract was registered (or at least they certainly used to at juvenile, amateur and junior levels), so the referee ought to have recognised it. Kowalski Posted January 31, 2008 Author Share Posted January 31, 2008 Aberdeen will now play Hamilton Accies on Saturday in the 5th Round of the Scottish Cup with a 3pm kick off. In light of new evidence, the Scottish Football Association's Emergency Committee met again this morning to consider the circumstances surrounding the Scottish Cup 4th Round Replay Tie, Brechin City v Hamilton Academical. The Committee found that Brechin City had breached the Cup Competition Rules by fielding two ineligible players and as a consequence of this breach, the Committee decided that Brechin City be removed from this season's Scottish Cup Competition. With the back log of fixtures AFC felt it necessary to try and get the game on. As soon as the club heard of the new evidence last night, the staff at Pittodrie have worked round the clock with their various partners to get the fixture on and will continue to do so. Season tickets holders can purchase their own seats right up until kick off. Their seats will not be released. mizer Posted February 1, 2008 Share Posted February 1, 2008 Brechin City will hold an inquest into their Scottish Cup expulsion as chairman Ken Ferguson's future is decided over the next 48 hours. Brechin were turfed out of the competition yesterday, losing their chance of a lucrative fifth-round match against Aberdeen at Pittodrie. The SFA acted after Brechin fielded two ineligible players in their fourth-round replay with Hamilton Accies at Glebe Park on Monday. The Angus men shocked the First Division leaders by winning 2-1 after extra time. But Brechin were fined £10,000 and ordered toreplay the tie after Accies protested about the appearance of on-loan Aberdeen attacker Michael Paton - who was not a registered Brechin player when the original tie was played at New Douglas Park on January 12, ending in a 0-0 draw. Brechin then confessed that another player, Willie Dyer, a recent acquisition from St Johnstone, had also been ineligible. A second emergency meeting was called by the SFA at Hampden yesterday and the committee decided to remove Brechin from the cup. Hamilton will now travel to Pittodrie tomorrow to face Aberdeen - and will be expecting to bank more than £50,000 from the tie. Glebe Park chairman Ferguson is the man responsible for registrations at the Angus club and has already accepted responsibility - telling fellow board members he is willing to stand down. The Brechin committee met with a dejected playing squad in training at Perth last night to clear the air. No decision was made on Ferguson but vice-chairman Martin Smith said some kind of action would be taken. He said: "We will hold a meeting of the entire committee and have a full discussion into the events that have taken place. This will happen over the next few days but we will take our time before making any decisions. "The club is completely devastated - that is a word we have used a lot this week - but we have to look to the future. We have to make sure procedures are put in place so that something like this never happens again." Smith said Brechin have no issue with the SFA over their treatment and will accept their punishment. There was even some relief that expulsion from the national competition supersedes the original £10,000 fine. Brechin had feared the second replay would still go ahead and the club would be hit with another £10,000 fine for the second breach. Smith added: "It was a fair hearing, we can have no complaints. The rules are there and we broke them. We have to face the repercussions. "I suppose if there is any silver lining it is that the club won't receive the fine, or receive and even bigger one. Oh and re Livi deliberately not putting their undersoil heating on, if the game can't go ahead as scheduled they should be kicked oot as well.
