That’s not really my point. The Romans and the Aztecs could have said the same thing. But it all went to shit quite quickly. I’m not saying we’re not lucky/privileged in many ways, just that things could still be about to go tits up. And it’s our own fault. Not only that but through populism and the constraints of democracy were doubling down.

I would quite liked to live through the postwar period up to about 1970. I’d happily do the 90s again. Like all middle aged men I’d like to have witnessed Roman Britain (as a Roman of course). There’s been some great times of hope and optimism in the world. Just don’t think the next 50-100 years will be like that.

Post WW2, what a time to have been alive.

So much hope and to have been around at the birth of the NHS and the wider welfare state.

Nationalisation of the key industries and a massive programme of council house building.

I was actually outside walking when on here this morning, and I absent mindedly read @Jupiter's post out loud. A starling stared at me and said "are you a fucking moron? Our population levels have dropped sixty percent since the fifties, and so have most of our friends."

I'm not a Kier apologist, I am very disappointed in him for the most part after having moderate hopes of him being a decent bloke who could do a decent job (more fool me?) - but the press do seem to be making him one of the very few people who will be punished as a result of Epstein and chums sworded world of noncedom......and he wasn't even involved!

He will have seen the pic of Mandy the Y fronts and still gave him the job. Obviously it would’ve been difficult for the wee lamb to say no to his boss but it was still an incredibly poor decision.

Pfft .... for most of my adult life, Ah've considered masel politically informed/astute ... but in recent years? ... Ah'm fkn clueless! 

Why? ... because no party whatsoever offers any balanced forward 'vision'. 

I previously supported Alba on account of their excellent manifesto ... but, like many small parties before them, they have torn apart due to internal power struggles .... a bit like who buys the crisps, versus who decides which fuckin' flavours. A big, big slap on the kisser to a handful o' folks Ah know who walked the miles and miles, door to door, face to face with prospective voters. .... Ah'll nae attempt tae say fa's tae blame ... but will say Tommy Sheridan is a fuckin prick! 

Ah left the Labour party in 2001 because they had abandoned their grassroots. Since then, Ah've witnessed SNP an' others dae likewise.

When a party cuts it's connection with it's grassroots, it loses connection with it's electorate, and therefore loses it's attraction for voters.

..... leaving the field wide open for Reform to sweep up the disenfranchised.

To be fair to Tommy, everyone in the country knew he was a prick for the best part of 25 years. 
Alba was a party born out of people not knowing what Twitter troll farms were. It was doomed to fail, which was kind of the point
