But it all went to shit quite quickly. I’m not saying we’re not lucky/privileged in many ways, just that things could still be about to go tits up. And it’s our own fault. Not only that but through populism and the constraints of democracy were doubling down. I would quite liked to live through the postwar period up to about 1970. I’d happily do the 90s again. Like all middle aged men I’d like to have witnessed Roman Britain (as a Roman of course). There’s been some great times of hope and optimism in the world. Just don’t think the next 50-100 years will be like that. Quote

Post WW2, what a time to have been alive. So much hope and to have been around at the birth of the NHS and the wider welfare state.
