Crazy American Politics

Story #1

http://www.statepress.com/2012/03/12/senate-judiciary-committee-endorses-controversial-contraceptive-bill/

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 6-2 Monday to endorse a controversial bill that would allow Arizona employers the right to deny health insurance coverage for contraceptives based on religious objections.

Arizona House Bill 2625, authored by Majority Whip Debbie Lesko, R-Glendale, would permit employers to ask their employees for proof of medical prescription if they seek contraceptives for non-reproductive purposes, such as hormone control or acne treatment.

“I believe we live in America. We don’t live in the  Soviet Union,” Lesko said. “So, government should not be telling the organizations or mom and pop employers to do something against their moral beliefs.”

Lesko said this bill responds to a contraceptive mandate in the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act signed into law March 2010.

“My whole legislation is about our First Amendment rights and freedom of religion,” Lesko said. “All my bill does is that an employer can opt out of the mandate if they have any religious objections.”

Story#2

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/rick-santorum-wants-ban-hardcore-pornography-222833811.html

Rick Santorum wants to put an end to the distribution of pornography in the United States.

"America is suffering a pandemic of harm from pornography," Santorum's official website reads. "Pornography is toxic to marriages and relationships. It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking."

The former Pennsylvania senator states that, "as a parent, I am concerned about the widespread distribution of illegal obscene pornography and its profound effects on our culture."

Santorum criticized the Obama administration for turning "a blind eye ... to the scourge of pornography" and for refusing to enforce obscenity laws.

"If elected President, I will appoint an Attorney General who will do so," Santorum writes. "While the Obama Department of Justice seems to favor pornographers over children and families, that will change under a Santorum Administration."

Hilarious. Trump really is thick as shite. Everyone in the galaxy could see that coming before they even met. What an embarrassment of a nation (as most nations are). Two of life's absolute losers inv

  • We just mainly hear about their gestapo shooting Americans in the face, the child sex trafficking and fascist stuff but that’s good news about property taxes

Won't be long before we're buying desalinated water from Nestle because all the natural water sources are being consumed by data centres to power the AI bot farms that are convincing your Granny that Al Qaeda is coming for her pension.

A couple of our acquaintance, have just informed us they have a fallout shelter in their back garden of their Aberdeen home. Built underground, for maximum safety.

They both read every bit of conspiracy shit online, for the past few years and are now at the point where it is really impacting their mental health.

I'd laugh, but they have an eight year old Son and this can't be doing him any good.

He already has to suffer overnight 'survival trips', for when Armageddon comes.

Fucking hell that’s grim

That is indeed grim.

They might be getting the WD40 out for the doomsday clock though.

Small consolation but K.O times will be 3:30 and 6:30 pm for the Scotland games here:

He seems to be having a bad week. Thousands out protesting, nobody sane joining his board of peace, he’s three different colours, ripping the pish out of his allies war dead & sending his lovers husband to make deals with Putin.

Interesting. I’m reading about how good a week he had. Davos, strengthened connections with other leaders, trade deals, increased access to Greenland for military use, further arctic trade opportunities, other countries taking ownership and responsibility, including financial, meetings with Ukraine, Russia, and china, and a booming US economy.

i ignore this thread mostly because it’s all who you read, and what’s believable.

Be fair and honest. I’m not defending trump. But trade deals were made. Relationships with certain countries developed. Trump demanded other countries step up, in actions and funds, a that has happened. Meeting with both Russia and Ukraine. US stock market is booming.
much like the media here, may of you seem to ignore half the truth. Again, not defending trump and some of the things he’s doing, but progress was made. The threat of tariffs had an effect, got results for trump and the US, hence the threat was dropped.
I know people hate trump and see negatives, but good things are happening too. For the US at least which obviousky doesn’t please everyone.

ive openly stated problems with trump, I’m not one sided.

Another person monitoring ICE has been shot and killed by Trump’s SA. Government claiming he was armed but videos on line show him being held down a number of SA…..I mean ICE agents before they shoot him. Hopefully people of Minnesota protest this peacefully and do not give Trump the excuse he is looking for to enact the insurrection act.

It’s fucking disgusting. Guy was an ICU nurse who tried to help a woman that was pushed to the ground and in return got pepper sprayed, bundled to the ground and executed. Doesn’t matter what any of these fucking ghouls say, it’s on video.

At this rate the World Cup is going to be the modern day equivalent of the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

It was already going to be that anyway. Now it is probably going to involve lines of security “for your protection” and any sign of dissent or protest hammered.

Really not regretting my decision to give this a miss.

How would you say his week is going now?

Trump is doing what he campaigned on, and what the majority of the country voted on. From what I am reading, ICE was going after an illegal immigrant with a history of domestic violence. These have become highly charged environments, and if a citizen wants to go there armed and get involved in an altercation with armed law enforcement, that’s not a wise choice if you ask me.
Sad to lose a life, but I have little sympathy for those who do not apply common sense. If you go armed to a volatile environment, you are accepting the consequences. Same as if you try to drive over armed law enforcement.
If you are going to mess with law enforcement who put their lives on the line every single day, consequences are on you.  I’m 100% behind law enforcement and couldn’t imagine what they go through  every single day, not knowing if that day is their last, especially if you deal with an unpredictable public in a hostile environment who are armed and possibly not weapons trained.

No offence but everything about that is ludicrous and you’re lying to yourself. It’s ok to admit you were wrong. If more people did it, everything would be better. We have the exact same problem in the uk

Sorry, it’s probably more accurate to say you’re allowing yourself to be lied to, than lying to yourself

What’s the lie?

There’s 2 in your opening sentence.

Having watched videos with several different angles of the incident there is no weapon in the guys hand in any of them only a phone. There is one video where an officer does take something off the guy and walks away. The shots are clearly heard after that so even if this was a weapon he is unarmed and pinned to the ground when shot repeatedly. It is state sanctioned murder plain and simple. Same as Iran but just not on an industrial scale. Yet.

Please clarify?

Trump didn’t stand on executing citizens on the street and the majority of Americans didn’t vote him in. Both of those points are demonstrably true

You say that people are influenced by what they see and we’re probably not getting the full picture over here of what’s happening

We absolutely are. I’m worried about what you’re watching though as everything you’ve said previously makes me think FOX is turning your brain to custard.

I can go through it step by step where you’re wrong if you’re genuinely interested but I suspect you aren’t

Why make this personal? Why not just have a discussion? This is why i rarely read and contribute to this thread.

got my info reading CNN. Any time there’s an incident I do read CNN, I’ll check fox, msnbc too, as you can get vastly differing stories. Read a little more on NPR this evening discussing an armed man approaching federal agents and he violently resisted them trying to disarm him.

trump didn’t stand on executing citizens, 100% agree with you there. I didn’t say that.

The majority of Americans did vote him in, that’s fact.

for today’s incident, keen to see full footage and get full info in the coming days/weeks. Why would you assume im not interested in hearing the full story and truth? When I have joined this threat in rhe past I do debate and discuss, open to listening,  why judge/jump to these conclusions?

As I’ve already said though, this is a highly charged situation that I question the intelligence of people getting involved in trying to confront armed agents, especially if armed themselves.

All pointing to encouraging a civil war just to attempt to cancel the mid terms.

Guy was executed in cold blood by ICE.

Wow.

The nurse was holding a phone and he was pepper sprayed when trying to help a lady that had been pushed over by ICE, then they pinned him down and executed him.

Even the NR-fucking-A are coming out saying it’s wrong to say the victim was at fault for legally having a holstered gun on his person.

This clearly shows the victim’s gun was taken away from him before they unloaded their bullets on his restrained and prone body: https://www.reddit.com/r/law/s/Dw7ZxTa3cx

You don’t need to curate your news sources to form an opinion, just use your eyes FFS.

The U.S. Constitution (particularly the 2nd, 4th, and 14th amendments) prohibit officers from shooting citizens merely for possessing a weapon that is not an “imminent threat”. This was reaffirmed in Graham v Connor, which says force must be reasonable.

It's interesting (and a little scary) to read Orlanndo's take on things.

He seems a reasonable person, so I'm guessing the stuff he's saying is a not uncommon opinion Stateside.

The Americans I've communicated with have a different take. Hugely different.

They do not see any positives in the Trump presidency and tend to see it as the same abomination as those of us outwith America.

They are pinning everything on the mid-terms and the Dems getting control of both houses.

Then there will be at least an attempt at checks and balances.

If the elections go ahead fairly,  their take is that this is inevitable.

Through online groups, I've spoken with a number of folk from Minneapolis/Minnesota.

They're certainly seeing no positives from this carry-on, they're living a dystopian nightmare.

I think in terms of the longer term picture, the UK has to be less dependent on the U.S. democracy has been proven so fragile there it has to be considered a failing state.

Brexit is daily being shown as the disasterous folly it was, on SUCH a wide variety of levels.

The UK is more vulnerable than ever.

What a time to be alive.

Thank fuck I'll be deid or lang.
