Crazy American Politics

Story #1

http://www.statepress.com/2012/03/12/senate-judiciary-committee-endorses-controversial-contraceptive-bill/

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 6-2 Monday to endorse a controversial bill that would allow Arizona employers the right to deny health insurance coverage for contraceptives based on religious objections.

Arizona House Bill 2625, authored by Majority Whip Debbie Lesko, R-Glendale, would permit employers to ask their employees for proof of medical prescription if they seek contraceptives for non-reproductive purposes, such as hormone control or acne treatment.

“I believe we live in America. We don’t live in the  Soviet Union,” Lesko said. “So, government should not be telling the organizations or mom and pop employers to do something against their moral beliefs.”

Lesko said this bill responds to a contraceptive mandate in the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act signed into law March 2010.

“My whole legislation is about our First Amendment rights and freedom of religion,” Lesko said. “All my bill does is that an employer can opt out of the mandate if they have any religious objections.”

Story#2

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/rick-santorum-wants-ban-hardcore-pornography-222833811.html

Rick Santorum wants to put an end to the distribution of pornography in the United States.

"America is suffering a pandemic of harm from pornography," Santorum's official website reads. "Pornography is toxic to marriages and relationships. It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking."

The former Pennsylvania senator states that, "as a parent, I am concerned about the widespread distribution of illegal obscene pornography and its profound effects on our culture."

Santorum criticized the Obama administration for turning "a blind eye ... to the scourge of pornography" and for refusing to enforce obscenity laws.

"If elected President, I will appoint an Attorney General who will do so," Santorum writes. "While the Obama Department of Justice seems to favor pornographers over children and families, that will change under a Santorum Administration."

Hilarious. Trump really is thick as shite. Everyone in the galaxy could see that coming before they even met. What an embarrassment of a nation (as most nations are). Two of life's absolute losers inv

  • We just mainly hear about their gestapo shooting Americans in the face, the child sex trafficking and fascist stuff but that’s good news about property taxes

Please take this as a genuine question Orlando Don as I think it was you that said it (apologies if it wasn’t):

What specifically is it that schools and colleges over there are teaching that’s “left” and lead folk like Charlie Kirk to think the opposite point of view needs to be put out on campuses across the country?

I’ll add to my other post, overkill no doubt. I was Director of Athletics so was involved with all gender bathrooms, locker rooms, boys on girls teams etc. I was asked to research what other education institutions did as we went through our decision making processes so had a good feel what other schools were doing. I found it hard doing more and more things I didn’t believe in. I was definitely a democrat when I moved to LA and I don’t think I significantly changed in my beliefs, I just think the left shifted so I suddenly became right of center.

What is hilarious to see, is the free speech wave going back and forth, with associated frothing and side-taking. It started with the left being defenders of free speech, being provocative in search of more liberal attitudes towards sex and sexuality, always being censored by the right. McCarthyism  another sordid tool. Then the hate speech took over, with words being phased out because they were no longer appropriate leading to speakers at university and so on being "cancelled". Now the "can't say anything these days" folks are reporting people for making jokes about a death, trying to get them fired and shows cancelled. All propelled by the narcissistic machine of social media. You wonder when it will peak?

It’s nuts, it’s funny too, the left going mental over what the right are doing when a few months ago the left were the ones canceling the right in similar fashion. Funny is obviously the wrong thing to say, it’s very sad and I dont know what it takes to get out of the finger pointing and having to have the upper hand. Two wrongs clearly don’t make a right but as you say, when does it peak? Biden promoted himself and campaigned as being the president to bring everyone together, that clearly didn’t happen. We really need a middle of the road type to come forward and take on the uniter role. If ever there’s a need for an independent party it’s now.

people are being canceled here, are people being arrested for saying the wrong thing in Britain???

Yes, a certain group in the UK has been deemed a terrorist group for painting a plane, and old ladies are being arrested for supporting them. On the opposing side, a woman is jailed for telling people to burn down hotels. The two are equated by a redundant press. Starmer is as pathetic and weak as Biden was, but he's there because of that, as was Biden. Like Biden, he's there to give the illusion of left versus right, when in reality there is no political left representing the UK. There is only a large right wing, and a bunch of people trying to win over that right wing by placating them and borrowing their talking points. Of course, that right wing is imported, in its entirety from the US, with huge funding from guys like Musk and the other social media guys, and orchestrated by people like Steve Bannon. It's basically political interference, but guys like Starmer are too pathetic to call it out. A British reporter actually asked him yesterday if Britain was no longer a Christian country. A line directly taken from right wing US Christian groups. Instead of ignoring the reporter, he weakly pretended that he was Christian himself. That weakness has immediately opened the door for Christianity being forced into the conversation (directly from the US), and it will keep being nudged until we're back to questioning abortion. Being the weak middle (very much including the BBC) versus the right, there will only be one winner.

Again, I'm not coming at it from either side, I'm trying to be as objective as I can. In reality, I think that they're all wrong. They're both working against physics, and their stupid arguments will soon wither away when faced with the far larger problems that civilisation is facing. I'd expect a few civil wars when that happens. An example would be climate change and water shortages. The overwhelming majority of migration in the US in the next fifty years will be internal migration. You can see how it struggles to cope with the arbitrary external migration created by its borders, so how does that play out when those borders become state, or county borders? You've timed your move well, doing it before the rush, perhaps, although I expect that a large portion of Orlando will be redundant too. It's very intriguing. The political class will do its utmost to insulate itself whilst pretending it isn't happening.

Whatever we think of Donald Trump, it's fantastic that him and JFK have now cured autism. Great job guys.

Bit harsh on JFK considering he's been dead for 62 years.😆

Basically ignore the advice of numerous scientific studies and trust the word of one man who claimed he had brain worms and another who told folk to drink bleach to avoid COVID.

Another bottle job by the Democrats which would embarrass the Hearts 86 squad

Trump’s bricking it and plenty talk of Republicans jumping ship on him.

A fucked up mess to see elected officials trying to cover up for a pedo.  The whole Epstein story must be huge with many implicated.

You've even gone with the American spelling. Nice touch.

Bad enough for the palace to preemptively remove a prince. All those boring right wing tossers who were blowing smoke up Trumps arse are going to look even dafter/noncier soon

I think 2026 will see new heights/depths of lunacy.

Talking to Americans I know  there's a feeling the Dems could get control of both houses in the mid-terms.

I think therapist Trump will try to stop the mid-terms happening.

It's through the looking glass stuff over there.....and we're galloping swiftly in that direction over here.

It’s not about winning an argument, I think it’s bigger than that. Winning and losing arguments is why we are at this point, we’re all losers at present. If you do some objective reading you’ll easily find it. We see it daily. From three assassination attempts in the last year, 2 on trump and now Kirk, plus the violence around BLM or ICE, politicized to left leaning causes, it’s all there. Listen to the likes of Tim Walz, AOC, its toxic. But you get similar on the right, there’s a lot of reflection needed that will unlikely happen.

how much time have you spent in America?

I spent a fair bit of time in Texas through work but I don’t think you really have to go there to know that it’s pretty batshit. You can’t both sides this. The right in America are absolutely crackers. The ‘left’ aren’t left at all. If they were British, they would be Tories or similar to Starmers Labour

Trump called a female reporter “piggy” on camera and not a single other member of the press said anything. Too worried about losing their press access - what a fucked up country.

And he’s now meeting Bin Salman and Cristiano Ronaldo in the White House. Jokes about Trump cosying up to a dislikable walloper from Saudi Arabia seem to write themselves…

What's  therapist up to with these  'Epstein files'?

He's obviously up to his arse in all that shite, but he's signed an order for their release.

He's got an angle here.

A few possibilities. The first is that there is an investigation ongoing, and so Bondi will prevent the release of much of the good stuff, or it will be hugely redacted.

The second (and the one I think most likely) is that Trump is not hugely involved in things, not in a degree that would concern. Or nothing he has done is documented. I think his dislike for Epstein is genuine, and - like most men - I suspect that there's an age below which he would see a young girl like his daughter (despite his weird obsession with her). He's just your standard rapist, basically.

The third is that there is some involvement, and some hint that he has been at it with teenage girls, but he correctly believes that his base will comfortably look the other way. Be prepared for a blitz of "other countries allow teenage girls to have sex", "they weren't pre-pubescent" etc. To some degree, it's fair comment, if you happily ignore the trafficking, the British Prince nonce didn't break any UK laws in terms of age after all. The age gap is obviously the disgusting part, but Trump's voters will comfortably look the other way, accuse the other side and so on, just as they did with his rapeyness. They already know who they're voting for. He'll simply deny the knowledge trafficking, and claim consent, and it's clear that if there is any sort on Trump, it dates back at least thirty years, and will be hard to confirm.

Option 2 there. What is already in the public domain is hugely concerning

You’ve got the NYT quote about liking them on the young side, all the photos together, the drawings, secret messages, the deranged things he’s said about his own daughter, looking at the kid & saying he’s going to be dating her in a few years, walking in on the teenage beauty contest changing rooms…I think it’s likely what was going on was much worse. We’ll never know though, as we’ll see his tax returns before we see the files

ultimately, as usual, the problem is with men in general.

No, I don't believe the problem is with men in general. Men of power, in a system that pathetically elevates men in power, perhaps. Our culture, maybe. Patriarchy, certainly. Not men in general though.

I’d agree with all of that but you’ve got more faith in your average Joe than I do.

Joe's a great guy. Great father, easy to get along with, good working man, liked by his colleagues, likes teenage girls, cooking and following his favourite football team, although he doesn't get to see them often because they play 200 miles away in Glasgow.

To normal people it is. To what appears to be a majority in the US, not so much.

They voted the freak in for a second time.

History will not be kind to Trump or his worshippers.

Maybe if they could find some emails or messages, where he insults god, then maybe America will listen.
