Crazy American Politics

Story #1

http://www.statepress.com/2012/03/12/senate-judiciary-committee-endorses-controversial-contraceptive-bill/

The Senate Judiciary Committee voted 6-2 Monday to endorse a controversial bill that would allow Arizona employers the right to deny health insurance coverage for contraceptives based on religious objections.

Arizona House Bill 2625, authored by Majority Whip Debbie Lesko, R-Glendale, would permit employers to ask their employees for proof of medical prescription if they seek contraceptives for non-reproductive purposes, such as hormone control or acne treatment.

“I believe we live in America. We don’t live in the  Soviet Union,” Lesko said. “So, government should not be telling the organizations or mom and pop employers to do something against their moral beliefs.”

Lesko said this bill responds to a contraceptive mandate in the federal Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act signed into law March 2010.

“My whole legislation is about our First Amendment rights and freedom of religion,” Lesko said. “All my bill does is that an employer can opt out of the mandate if they have any religious objections.”

Story#2

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/ticket/rick-santorum-wants-ban-hardcore-pornography-222833811.html

Rick Santorum wants to put an end to the distribution of pornography in the United States.

"America is suffering a pandemic of harm from pornography," Santorum's official website reads. "Pornography is toxic to marriages and relationships. It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking."

The former Pennsylvania senator states that, "as a parent, I am concerned about the widespread distribution of illegal obscene pornography and its profound effects on our culture."

Santorum criticized the Obama administration for turning "a blind eye ... to the scourge of pornography" and for refusing to enforce obscenity laws.

"If elected President, I will appoint an Attorney General who will do so," Santorum writes. "While the Obama Department of Justice seems to favor pornographers over children and families, that will change under a Santorum Administration."

Hilarious. Trump really is thick as shite. Everyone in the galaxy could see that coming before they even met. What an embarrassment of a nation (as most nations are). Two of life's absolute losers inv

  • We just mainly hear about their gestapo shooting Americans in the face, the child sex trafficking and fascist stuff but that’s good news about property taxes

He knew fine that they had been stabbed, but he blames it on Reiner's hatred for him.

What a walloper.

Trump getting roundly criticised but it’s par for the course now over there. Horrific post though.

The most incredible thing about this is.....it's not incredible.

We're all screwed.

I think things would bounce back pretty quickly. I have supreme confidence in the younger generation.

Used to think the same, but having doubts about that now.

They’ve got nothing to lose as they’ve never had access to all the nice things in the first place. They also have a better grasp of how the internet works, so less likely to have their brains smoothed by Russian troll bots

I don't quite understand this. Bounce back to where? Nearly every material resource used to power modernity is on to its decline curve. I don't think age will be a factor in the decline of civilisation. The next war will be fought by the younger generation, at the behest of the older. As has always been the case.

Agreed about the decline but I think the younger generation as a whole will buck the trend and tell the older ones to poke it. What’s their motivation?

Also, Baby Boomers are the most mental c*nts out. Once they’re gone, the ‘older’ generation won’t be anywhere near as bad.

Things look pretty grim at the moment but this is just late stage capitalism dying on its arse as it was always going to. They young uns seem like a decent bunch. We’ll be ok

The NYC mayor election gives a little optimism. If the Democrats could shake themselves free of Schumer & Co and de-age Bernie Sanders by about 20 years and really lean into the healthcare and affordability issues then the people would follow I think. But they won’t, and they won’t.

Chuck shouting ‘go Bills!’ before taking questions on the Brown University shooting, is every bit as fucked up as Trump

Old men need to fuck off

Although I do have a great deal of confidence in our youth to turn things around, I am also worried about the number of young folk that have been brought up in wealth and will realise they want the old order to remain in place when they take control.

They might throw a few more crumbs down from the top table, but it will be too little too late.

I honestly think the world is past the stage that it can be mended by mankind.

I guess I'm not really understanding what the picture of health looks like in a declining age. I'm not really seeing a vision from anyone politically that suggests that they really understand the issues at hand, not am I sure that the illusion of representative democracy has it within itself to deal with those issues when they present themselves. If there are no wise elderly folk, as you suggest, to pass their knowledge onto the younger generation, then who* will guide them through the next few decades when they'll likely experience things at a scale that no human society has before? Why would it not be easier to jump on board with the grifters and charlatans? What exactly is it that you picture the future looks like?

*I'm nae fuckin deein it.

There will be wise elderly folk, they just won’t be baby boomer's, who are all wired to the fucking moon

Im optimistic but I think we’ll reach a point soon when the world will reach saturation point with right wing grifters, anti vaxxers, anti climate change, do your own research, boring cabbages that have been running riot for the last 10 years. The overwhelming majority of which are only about because boomers don’t know how the internet works. The next generation do

Fuck, I hope you’re right. Even here in NZ, the rise of these grifting cunts is unreal, because people want to be brainwashed as it takes away from their current reality.

Mason talking bollocks as usual, there are nutters in every age group.

You’ve definitely got your group covered

It’s a sweeping generalisation but Boomers are absolute cannon fodder in the disinformation war. Look at any Reform meeting, ask their opinions on immigration, Greta Thunberg, Trans people etc…few of them will have formed their own opinions on it.

Theres not a hope in hell that a swan can get airborne. Too heavy for a start

They look like dragons when they're flying

I've just been to see It's a Wonderful Life, and it made me cry as usual and wish to fuck the death of capitalism would hurry the fuck up

I can't even post about Trump he is absolutely insane and so utterly unfit to be president and by god that is a low bar

That's not really getting to the crux of the problem though is it? Unless you think that the world's problems stop and end at Trump or Farage. What would be returning to after the saturation point? The time of good old sensible politics with call me Dave and Big Tony? The grown ups, like Nicola? You don't seem to be articulating a future, simply suggesting that the death of a generation will pave the way to something better. I expect that's unlikely.

What do you replace it with?

Not surprising as seeing a flying dragon is every bit as likely as seeing a flying swan

Of course it will be better. The generation above mine has never voted to make things better. Ever.
They would vote for the Drown a Puppy Party if it offered them £5 off their heating bill and deported their lovely neighbour Abdul

They have huge wings saw one take off from the middle of a road near my work once - a swan that is not a dragon 😉

More than likely a migratory Canada Goose (Branta canadensis)

It’s an easy mistake to make, as they look very similar. They way to tell the difference is that geese can fly and swans canny
