Stockport in race for Aberdeen FC striker

Wright targeted for English move

Published: 18/01/2010

STOCKPORT County are on the trail of Aberdeen FC striker Tommy Wright.

The Evening Express revealed last week that Wright, who has failed to establish himself at Pittodrie since his £75,000 move from Darlington in 2008, could be moved out this month to make space for new faces.

Stockport boss Gary Ablett is desperate to bring in a new striker after seeing Carl Baker, Oli Johnson and Peter Thompson all move on over the course of last week.

It’s understood he has expressed an interest in landing Wright who still has more than a year left on his contract with Aberdeen FC, as Stockport battle to avoid relegation from League One

Can it be called a race if there is only one team after him?

No not really. Anyway Stockport are broke so cannot see them being able to pay for him and if we free him we would have to pay up his contract which we cannot afford to do. I would we are stuck with him until his contract expires.

The most galling aspect is that we spent £100k on him, add his wages for a year and a half plus costs and yet despite having cash in the bank of over £2,000,000 the board did not see fit to spend £20k to support the new manager to bring in a quality player in Jim O'Brien. You never know, this new manager might be good. Improving the squad which is patently required may lead to improved performances and may even lead to bigger gate receipts. We got stiffed big time with big Tommy. Never been fit, either physically or for purpose. Thanks JC & WM.
