Having mulled this over and looking at some of the clues;

- we triggered a clause to be able to speak to him

- he mentioned he knows Lutz well and we know Burrows link

- Lutz assertion that we need someone who knows the Scottish game

Could it be that we have been doing this dance with SR for a few months as first option and the other candidates have been courted because we didn’t want to spend whatever the ‘clause’ demands?

Could explain why St Mirren have been absolute dugshit for months if his head was gone. Just a theory.

A fair few St Mirren fans have been moaning about that, saying it's obviously destabilised their dressing room since January as well as affecting Robinson. Saying we didn't want to pay the compensation.

Unless they have inside knowledge it's pure speculation but possible. Could just as easily been the case that Robinson had no clue we were going to come in for him as we were publicly speaking to Lutz's preferred choices.

The interesting thing about the Robinson appointment is that he's not the type of guy you get in as a stop gap to inspire a poorly performing team to see out a season. He takes time to get his preferred team on the park and implement his ethic. I don't see a huge uptick in results between now and the end of the season, and I think it'll be beyond January by the time he's had a chance to rejuvenate the squad. Hopefully he'll be given the time to do so. I think there's a slight window to make this team harder to beat and squeeze some points out of them, but not much else. I assumed that's what Leven would do, but his selections have been scattergun at best. I hope Robinson just goes full pragmatism and makes us a stuffy side, in the hope that guys like Cameron, Nisbet and perhaps Armstrong (Keskinen at a real push) can sneak us goals at the top end. There isn't a lot of room for error with this squad though, one bad selection and we lose a game.

Could change it so that every time the ref. stops the games for an "injury", whether or not the physios come on, the player goes off and doesn't return until next time the ball goes out of play.

How about if a player stays down for more than 30 seconds, it is deemed a serious injury, and said player is taken off the pitch ..... and subbed the next time the ball is out of play? .... Ah think that would fix it ;)

Oh .... and the substitution is counted as part of the 5 subs allocation.

Here's my take on it good and bad:

The woman asking the questions was horrific

The sound quality was hit and miss, with one minute loud and clear and the next no audio at all

Robinson's opinion on the best player he ever played against was Steven Gerrard 🙄

Kept referring to "the football club" as a top six club......needs to re-think that part

Now for the better parts in my opinion:

Honoured to be manager.
Praised the fan base and the facilities at AFC
Preferred formation 4-3-3 but only if he has the players to play it, otherwise happy to be flexible.
Not adverse to playing youngsters but only if good enough. If he has a 25 yr old and a 18 year old both playing same position and the 25 year old is the better player then he plays.
Keen to work on set pieces and may look to add someone for that to the coaching staff.
He has the final day on signings but obviously others do the leg work in identifying.
Anticipates a lot of movement in the squad over the summer.
Absolutely hates VAR with a passion and says it ruins the game for fans in particular.
I actually quite took to him and am potentially a bit more comfortable with him BUT talk is cheap and he knows he has to deliver

This is the concerning bit, which is why the club's strategy needs to set the targets. A 25 year old might be a better player, but an 18-20 year old might have the potential to be significantly better than the 25 year old if given the freedom to develop. It's the easy option to go out and buy a new right sided defender, rather than get Jack Milne to be the player we should know he can be, for example. The 25 year old he speaks of, won't be a player that's already in the squad and has patiently waited their time to play first team football, it'll be a player that we've only just signed to replace the need to develop the young player already available in that role.

Any news on whether he's a chipper or a chippy man, or if he's a rowie or buttery man?

I'm kinda warming to the guy.  As someone else said, it feels very much like a long term plan more than short.  If that is the case I worry if he will get the time he needs.  I'm speaking more about the fans than the board.  It seems to only take one armchair fan on facebook to criticise a manager these days before a large group are calling for his head.

3 points would be lovely on Saturday night but even if that isn't achievable I feel he really needs a good performance from whatever team he decides to put out.

Seems likely he’ll make us tougher to break down and so we might stop losing games. At this stage I’ll take that as the first rung on a long ladder. It’s a damning indictment of our league that the best version of success seems to be McInnes ball where you play it safe, always do the basics well and grind out results consistently to make sure you’re in the fight to be better than everyone else except them. Occasionally you might strike gold when they don’t step up to the plate. Robinson feels like another iteration of that for us. Assuming we retain our top flight status we’ll probably perform to our budget and XG and it’ll all be a bit meh. Hello darkness my old friend.

If he didn't know he was neck deep in shit then he does now. No manager on this planet could get a tune out of these players.

That’s where I am. You could see today early on he’d set us up better & made us harder to play through.

Then they just absolutely sell the jerseys with the usual horrific basic errors - again - and crumble - again.

I just don’t know what he can do with this lot…

Looking at his post match interview on the BBC.

He basically says our team is a bunch of lazy bastards.

One thing I'd say, is if we're in a relegation fight, Robinson is the manager you want in your dugout.

Maybe this will be the making of a few players.

Yes that's a very positive spin on a depressing night.

He also basically said they’re not fit enough - which most of us have been commenting on all season.

That’s 100% on the previous management and coaching staff and is absolutely unforgivable…

I’d agree. He’s got the fire, the passion, plus a new boss at his first ‘big’ club opportunity, so motivated more than ever to do well.

the problem is, we need players to match his battling spirit. Didnt see today but I know Geiger and shinnie will compete, how was afeez and palaversa today? I wonder if we need to see sivert back in center mid.

I think topi is competitive, but not a smart player, but does he disappear under pressure? Surprised to see gyamfi today, how was he??

Aye, I doubt he missed in the dressing room afterwards.

I don't think he's a left wing back (if playing a five). He's not gonna skip to the byline. But he cuts in well and did okay at times.

Like the rest of them though, he can't defend.

Afeez was ok. Still not fit and injured himself - probably because he’s not fit.

Palaversa is just a waste of a shirt. Like Milanovic appears to have been (rightly) he needs binned and never spoken of again.

As said elsewhere I’d put Sivert in at CH.

Topi was our best player today, even in the short time he was on. Another Scandi you just can’t trust when the chips are down and another guy you wouldn’t want in the trenches next to you though.

Gyamfi wasn’t horrible but doesn’t offer much. Just another baffling signing…
