  1. At least someone is giving it a bash.

If it doesn't work then so be it, at least they're attempting to try something new because the 'war on drugs' has failed miserably for decades.

I seem to recall Portugal having done this in the not too distant past and had positive results.  I'm sure someone can link those details, I injected one whole hash earlier and can't be bothered.

  2. I agree with it in principle.

But, and this is a huge but, because I just don't see it ever happening; the tax revenue would have to go towards helping people with addiction.  Be that medicinal, therapy sessions, clinics, centres, etc.

Personally I see it being taxed, the addicts being left to rot (as they already are) and the money finding it's way into the toff's pockets.  Just a new way to dumb down the population and coin in on the less fortunate.

  3. That's not a very valuable contribution.

    Pot, kettle.

To get back on track I think it's more to do with the environment you're in than what the media are telling you.  I live in a place where people open fruit on street corners with machettes and the cops carry machine guns.  At no point have I ever felt like I was going to be stabbed or shot.

A while back a guy got opened up with a machette spitting distance from where I live, I never saw the attack but the aftermath was like a scene from Dexter.  Claret everywhere.  I still feel the same about guns or machettes.  Complete indifference.

I've also stood next to a guy in a 7/11 in Sweden who had an 8" Rambo knife strapped to his leg and a rifle strapped over his shoulder.  Nobody batted an eyelid, because he was off hunting moose and hunting is a large part of their culture in Scandinavia.  Had he being wielding either then it might have been a different story as there's a big difference between wielding a knife or gun and holding a knife or gun.

If I was in Basra under the same pretences then I'm sure I'd feel differently about both those situation.  But not because what a newspaper had told me what to think, purely because of my inbuilt survival instincts.

I like to think as myself as streetwise, I've been in some hairy situations, but until bullets start flying or axes are being swung at my head then chances are I'd be up for a few selfies with some boys armed to the teeth, hanging off the back of a Hylux, just for shits 'n giggles.

  4. Of course it was ridiculous. As the boy Tyrant said, it was a reaction thread to a completely unprovoked ad hominem attack by a poster with the word teacher in his nom de plume.

Tyrant made some great points with which I totally agree. Teachers aren't valued, firstly by central government. They are underpaid for the role that they are meant to perform in society and paying peanuts, we're going to get monkeys.

Education is such an important issue for society, let alone the individual that it is criminal - like nurses, as Tyrant also correctly stated - the way they have been treated by successive governments.

I relocated my whole family when my eldest was in second year secondary. I don't believe it paying for private education - not that I could afford it then - and having concerns about the school (which supposedly had a great reputation) we moved and it was the best decision of my life. Our eldest two girls got first class honours from Strathclyde and Glasgow having got an excellent education in the state sector in the North East.

A St Andrews professor I know said that when Blair came into power and decided to swell the numbers going into tertiary education in the 90's, this coincided with a remarkable and noticeable downturn in the basic literacy and numeracy skills of students. The truth is, Britain is getting thicker and thicker. The neglect of education, including in Scotland has been yet another tragedy of a political agenda that was nothing to do with community and everything to do with other things, as the boy Rico with some numbers at the end and other posters know, as we can see from their posts on here.

Blair was the first with the gall to do it openly and yet Cameron is exceeding that war criminal, unbelievably.

As stated on Question Time by that wifie almost two years ago* and ignored by the "mainstream" media, the biggest beneficiary of wind farm technology in the whole of the UK is Sandra Cameron's father. What a coincidence? Time to leave the EEC now I guess, having trousered the incentives? Even today, the "trade deals" with China make absolutely no sense. Politically it makes much sense to forge closer ties but at what price? It's the very few that benefit and we, the people of the United Westminster of ungreat Britannia are getting fucked over.

Use the internet people and stop drinking Coke. Jamie Oliver has a good case. It's not just making people fat, it's rotting their brains.

*Edit: And you can bet your bottom dollar it was true because she would have had the arse sued off of her and we WOULD have heard about it if it was a lie, the only defence to Libel (in Scotland, Slander in England) being veritas i.e. that it is true.

So............. long story short, and to answer the question you originally posed; no teachers aren't wankers, you just got your arse felt by one on the interwebs and took the huff.

Glad we got there in the end.

  5. Surely it makes sense to add a layer of protection to an expensive bit of hardware?

No, what makes sense is for the manufacturer to make the expensive bit of hardware without the built in redundancy of having to have items added to it, or replaced, or updated every two minutes.

But with a loyal bunch of suckers only too happy to throw money at them, why would they?

  6. Not true? If you know of a phone with an unbreakable screen please do share because that's something I'd be interested in!

Although having said that I have dropped my phone countless times from varying heights on to various surfaces and no part of it has ever broken. Even the edges are like new because it's always been in a silicone protective case. It cost me 99p from ebay.

Please to explain how the iPhone is overpriced but the Samsung Galaxy s6 Edge, for example, isn't? Folk only whinge about the Apple stuff being overpriced, even though most other brands are as well, because it's cool.  ::)

    Here be the problem.

Folk that queue overnight to buy a 500 quid rose gold iphone that needs to be protected with a 99p rubber johnny makes me warm inside.

I'm not entirely sure if they make protective cases or screen covers for Samsung phones because their screens aren't made from a material that you have to protect like your first born.

  7. As depressing as it is, it'll never change.

If it's not some Emo kid rootin-tootin-shootin up his school then it's the cops mowing down the people they are employed to serve and 'protect'.

That's why I'll continue to buy a fuck-load of shares in American arms dealers and private sector jails.

    There's no profit in peace.

    America - fuck yeah!

    $$$$$$$$$$

  8. It's fashionable to dislike Apple. Aye their gear is over-priced but it's about the same price as all the lastest Samsung Android gear as well. IOS is built for the hardware. Unlike Android. So generally runs a lot more smoothly. Whilst you can't really customise it all that much only geeky wankfucks care about that.

It's fashionable to dislike overpriced stuff that breaks?

Fair enough, I must be the height of fashion.

Unless you've got a Nokia 3310 you've got a phone with a screen that'll break. No matter if it's HTC, Samsung, Apple or Blackberry.

    Not true in the slightest.

I dare say that's what Apple have sold you.  Literally.

  9. Genuinely surprised by this.

The Scots by nature are an untrusting bunch.  Usually friendly but certainly sceptical to the core, especially of anyone offering something for nothing.  Or maybe that's just me?

Amazed Andrew is being hoodwinked so easily.

6 corporations own 90% of the media, they also own the oil companies that are coining in on the regions that our governments (who are backed by these corporations) are constantly invading and keeping in turmoil.  But you'll not hear/see/read about those facts in the media because you're kept blindsided by bogeymen like ISIS, Al Qaeda and scary refugees in dinghys who are coming to steal your babies because their own drowned en route to your place of work.

It would make a great Bond storyline if it wasn't so fucking tragic.

I'll brace myself for being called a conspiracy theorist.

  10. This was written five days ago by one of my favourite human beings.

If you're not interested in truth and justice, if you believe what the BBC, the press and the politicians tell us, then look away now.

The U.S. Imperial project is dying. Our only hope was true independence of the madness perpetrated by Cameron, Blair et al. True independence from Europe and the complicit NATO was required. The land of the free is killing humanity itself and we, Scots, as part of the UK, as part of Europe are vicariously guilty by association.

I hope some of you are motivated to read this commentator. This is one of hundreds of excellent perspectives he offers: -

    Gullible Americans Forever

    Paul Craig Roberts

“Next the statesmen will invent cheap lies, putting the blame upon the nation that is attacked, and every man will be glad of those conscience-soothing falsities, and will diligently study them, and refuse to examine any refutations of them; and thus he will by and by convince himself that the war is just, and will thank God for the better sleep he enjoys after this process of grotesque self-deception.” — Mark Twain

Listening to NPR news today I was reminded how throughly this once independent voice has sold out.

I was also reminded of the Mark Twain quote above. NPR reported that Syrians were lined up in Turkey waiting on passage on inflatable rafts to Greece. According to the NPR report, there are 2 million Syrian refugees in Turkey and 250,000 Syrians have been killed. NPR said nothing about the cause of this murder and displacement of vast numbers of people. It was if the plight of these people materialized out of thin air. The fact that Washington sicced ISIS, al Qaeda, Turkey, the US and NATO Air Forces, and Washington’s Middle Eastern vassals on Syria was not mentioned. The view on NPR is the same as Washington’s — that if only Assad would resign and hand Syria over to Washington, everything would be fine.

Americans don’t go to bed every night unable to sleep from shame from the atrocities that the US government has inflicted on Syria. And on Iraq. And Libya. And Afghanistan. And Pakistan. And Yemen. And Somalia. And Ukraine. And Serbia. According to the prostitute media, all of these human catastrophes are the work of dark forces that America must combat. It is all a clever orchestration of public emotion in favor of the military/security complex’s bank balance.

The corruption of public discourse in America, indeed throughout the West, is total. There are no reliable reports, not from public or private institutions. The economic reports are propaganda to keep alive the image of a successful America. The reports about Russia, Ukraine, and Muslims are propaganda designed to inculcate fear in the gullible, fear that ensures more power and profit for Washington and the military/security complex.

Americans have proven themselves to be the easiest sheep ever to be shorn.

The gullibility of Americans threatens the world with armageddon.

The only thing that surprises me here is that I thought this was common knowledge outside of the US?

  11. I've sailed through LAX a few times, never in a kilt mind.  Possibly the most laid back US airport I've been in given their usual immigration antics and the amount of crime in downtown LA.  I've been pleasantly surprised each time.

That said it's piss-boring and a bit of a shit-hole considering the amount of tinseltown celebs that must fly through there.  Guess they bypass the plebs and don't spend any time in the airport itself.

In more interesting news.......... I read today that they're literally trying to get Concorde off the ground again:

    http://www.businessinsider.com.au/concorde-jet-may-come-back-2015-9

  12. Anyone got any experience on looking for flights to New Zealand?  Any particular stop overs to avoid?  Currently looking to go with Malaysian, decent value and despite the disappearance and Russian slaughter are decent enough.  What is KL like as a stop over?

    KL is ok.

I'd swap it for Singapore though if that's an option.

  13. Speak to Goldman Sachs. There's a fair chance they've got it.

Was speaking to a mate about this the other day.

Germany want their money back but Greece is fucked because they don't have it.  Britain is billions in debt.  The African nations have always been up to their knees in debt.  China's stock exchange is taking a massive nose dive.  The oil price is bankrupting companies in the UK, US, Russia, etc.  Even poorer members of OPEC are pennyless.

So where the fuck is the money, somebody must have it?

Or are we all spending money that doesn't exist?

  14. We all agree that Armageddon is magic, yeah?

In the last three years we've had six different Scottish Cup finalists and two new winner.

In the same period, we've had six different league cup finalists, one new winner and Aberdeen won their first trophy in a generation.

The only fuckers nae happy are fans of the cheeks.

    Amen to that.
