Was very good today, looks a great signing
-
He's 31. Played for Man City, Sunderland and QPR and is the current co-uk-record-holder for triple jump at under 15 level. He's out of contract, so is probably akin to Swansea stalwart Alan Tate.
Tate was notoriously shite at the triple jump.

Agree to play there?
He'll play where he's told.

It's a tough one. By all accounts it appears he has a good squad. Likeable guy and a background of winning. All this suggest he'll do well.
Not league titles he doesn't.
He'll be given a bit more time because he's a name, but he'll eventually suffer the same fate as Warburton, Pedro and Murty. Patience will become thin if they're still routinely pumped by Celtic.
But for us, the big thing is McInnes showing what he did on Thursday - that he is capable of a good tactical, attacking performance when we're underdogs, that we can attack the favourites from the off. He can not be scared of the name - either of the team or the guy in the opposition dugout.

That’s a huge shame bobby. Did too many of the team just push the wrong side of 30? Hope you continue the meetings at the rock though
That's certainly played a part , Manc. There are other factors, the main one being that just not enough guys want to play football competitively these days. It's something which baffles me but it's different times from when I played, I suppose. Clubs are folding all the time and what was very noticeable was that there were very few young players in opposition teams generally. Never a good sign.

Looked good albeit a friendly, pleased for Cosgrove given some of the guff written about him over the last wee while.
Hope his family aren't reading...

Schmeichel surely offski. Unlikely Leicester would be paying that kind of fee for a backup
It's the EPL, they pay it for their kit men....

As I recall he was put his foot wrong on a few occasions but had luck on his side. He had a tendency to parry shots into dangerous positions instead of away for a corner or at least away from the goal with enough pace to allow time to regroup. That type of mistake gave away the killer away goal to Kairat Almaty.
But he was young and making those mistakes is what you need to do to get better and I reckon Schemichel Jr will be looking over his shoulder with a bit of concern. A potential win win situation for leicester, Denmark & Wales.
Ward did have a nasty habit of putting the ball back into play when parrying it.
I don't think he'll push Schmeichal that close to be honest. An experienced, title winning keeper who seems to be getting better, it will be hard for Ward to get past him this season.

Good to hear positive reports. I think Ferguson will be a starter for us this season, a lot seem to think he'd be "one for the future" but I think he'll be used most weeks.

It is with a heavy heart I say that after eight years, Red Stars are no more.
We just don't have the numbers/interest for it to continue.
Red Stars has been a really positive thing for Dons fans in Glasgow and has brought Dons fans together (The Rock being the destination for Dons fans in the weeg is due to Red Stars); I hope that continues at least.
We've had some great times over the years, thanks if you were ever involved.

88 goals in just over 4 years, our best striker since Shearer.
Absolutely great signing. He did the job he was brought in to do and hope he does really well down there.

Let's not forget you were complaining about us only signing "names" last summer who looked good on paper, rather than there being a logic behind them, so I'm not sure how that fits in with your desire to be "inspired".
I wasn't happy with us signing players based purely on reputation rather than how they'd fit in with our system, but you're not sure how that fits in with my desire to be "inspired". Eh? Take a guess.
It being a short term solution, or anything along those lines doesn't make Ball a better player than he is. And that's the point myself and Jute, I believe, were getting at. If Gleeson's injury is such that we have to have a replacement brought in then I would hope it would be of a decent standard, I don't think Ball is of that decent standard.
-
Not especially a Ball fan either, especially at RB cover, but I can see the logic in taking on someone the gaffer knows well if to cover for our defensive midfield signing who seems to have got a bit of a nasty injury in pre-season. I can't get overly upset about it if I'm honest, and if we're demanding to be inspired by backup defensive midfield signings then we're even more self entitled as a support than I thought.
No one's demanding anything and no one is upset, as far as I can see. It's just a discussion, but you charge on with that pish all you want.
-
Or smacks of Gleeson having picked up a fairly bad knee injury?
Is Ball the only midfielder on the planet we could get?
I know you're a DM fan and all that, and he can do no wrong, but even you can't be inspired by this?
-
Ball was at best mediocre in midfield and brutal at right back. Squad players should be there to push for first team places not warm the bench. We should be looking for better than Ball.
100%. Had a few ok games, but just ok. We need to be looking for better than him. Smacks of desperation or laziness, maybe both.
-
But the thing is that if we got £2m for him it wouldn't go to the transfer kitty in my opinion.
I don't think i was suggesting it would mate.
-
Croatia and Modric were superb. They were treated shabbily in the final, VAR has to be re-considered.
I could watch Modric all day... I think he may have idolised Bett and Grant in his younger days.

Zero quotes
Zero facts
Going to watch him against Burnley
Number plucked from thin air.
In short, nothing but mere speculation
Theres never quotes, facts, figures in the rumour mill mate.
McKenna will attract interest. If we got 2m for him i'd bite their hand off if it went 100% into the kitty for McInnes to waste.....
If this happened for example on a season loan deal, this would be Scottish football's signing of the summer.
Just can't see it to be honest.
Well tell us who it is that isn't signing for us at least???
-
GMS too easy pushed off the ball and Considine skinned too many times to mention. Very concerning.
That news couldn't just have reached you??
-
Nowak is allegedly being announced today, but he'll clearly be back up.
This season's Callum Morris.

Hi folks,
It's the yearly quest for new players for Red Stars, Glasgow's Aberdeen Supporters Team.
Red Stars play in the Sunday Central League, which is mostly based in the Glasgow area. We are on the look out for players in all positions, preferably with 11-a-side experience and of a decent standard. We train on a Thursday night at Springburn Park and home matches are usually at Milton, but don't let that put you off!
Last season was a very tough one. The season started with a large squad and there was a lot of promise for a good season ahead. Unfortunately we lost a host of players - injury, work commitments and lack of commitment to the game - meant we were left with a skeleton squad for the rest of the season which understandably took it's toll, even to the point where we had to forfeit a number of matches due to not being able to field a squad.
That's the bad news. The good news is that we are left with a good nucleus of a squad heading into the new season but we need reinforcements. If you think you can make a difference, or know someone who can, please get in touch with us either on here through me, or email clubfutbolaberdeen@gmail.com.
And please remember, if you are a Dons fan in Glasgow, it is your civic duty to apply...
ps Mods - can you leave this un-stickied please and I'll bump it up over the next few weeks?
-
Massively disappointed in Colombia, they're so much better than that and surprised at Pekerman's tactics. Down to the Swedes now....
-
As I said, the two schemes shouldn't have been mixed together. It's the only thing I think that's wrong with DNA.
The fact the club are actively encouraging the move away from the "working class" is disgusting, however, whether that's just the way the modern game is or not.

Cosgrove just doesn't move. Number of times today Mcginn looked up expecting Cosgrove to make a run and it just didn't happen. He is static far too much. We don't need to be playing him against Dundee, surely?
I thought our attacking intent today was devoid of ideas. Not sure what May was supposed to be doing but whatever it was he didn't do it very well.
As with last week, for the amount of touches Gleeson gets on the ball he should be a bit braver in his use of it, but maybe that will come as he settles into the side.
There are so few goals in that team - we need a penalty box striker, like an Adam Rooney of 3 years ago
