  1. Tempted by the 'Aye but no' option.

The results are much the same. We seem largely incapable of beating anyone of any quality higher than ourselves. Not sure of the exact stats but I'm pretty sure our record against the top six is as bad as I've ever seen it. Even when times were tough before we seemed capable of raising our game on occaision - it just seems now we have no higher standard to raise it to and we'll continue to patch together points against similarly beleagured and poor sides.

Is the squad any better after two transfer windows? In personnel possibly, but good additions such as Osbourne and Arnason are offset by the likes of Maguire and Aluko leaving. No matter what is said and how badly the latter two managed their departures, they would have improved us this season. At the back and up front we seem to have the same level of journeyman cloggers. What is most frustrating about the squad is that the imbalances we lamented McGhee for persist. No-one can convince me that we cannot sign full-backs better than McArdle or wingers better than Milsom.

I don't know if its going to get any better. Brown seems to be convinced that we're playing well and the table shows us in a false position but I don't buy that at all, our fundamental ability to get results has been poor all season. And I'm fucked if I can see any real evidence of that improving soon.

  2. Scottish Cup fourth-round draw

    Airdrie United v Dundee United

    Arbroath v Rangers

    Cowdenbeath v Hibernian

Culter or Partick Thistle v Queen of the South

    Dundee v Kilmarnock

    Falkirk v East Fife

    Hearts v Auchinleck Talbot

Inverness Caledonian Thistle v Dunfermline Athletic

Livingston v Ayr United or Montrose

Motherwell v Elgin City or Queen's Park

    Peterhead v Celtic

    Raith Rovers v Morton

    Ross County v Stenhousemuir

    St Mirren v Hamilton Academical

    St Johnstone v Brechin City

Stranraer or Forfar Athletic v Aberdeen

Ties to be played 7/8 January

Not the most exiting of draw. Talbot at Tyncastle gives a bit of novelty value, St J v Brechin produced a couple of cracking games last season and potentially tricky games for United and Killie but otherwise fairly uninspiring.

Definitely, the first game was one of the best cup ties I've seen in a long time.

Was hoping for a few all-SPL ties to clear the way for us a bit - and I do appreciate the futility of this wish given that Stranraer/Forfar will probably pump us.

  3. An interesting Scotland on Sunday Q&A with Neil Doncaster and Ian Blair about whether the SPL are soft on sectarianism:

    http://www.scotsman.com/scotland-on-sunday/sport/football/soft_on_sectarianism_not_us_say_spl_1_1975952

They sound like a couple of half wits to me and disagree with UEFA going after Celtic.  ::)

That is awful. Just a series of meaningless platitudes and no attempt made to address the content of the questions.

Christ, the SPL is grim sometimes.

  4. It's worth remembering that Spain had 71% posession, and 21 attempts at goal compared to England's 3. The Engerlush are getting a bit carried away. Unofficial World Cup winners? With that logic Switzerland actually won the World Cup last year.

    Japan are the current holders.

  5. I agree with the majority regarding the Naismith assault. It happened right under my nose and at first we thought he was feigning injury to avoid punishment but was only too fucking happy to see the injury was genuine because it's what the horrible, vile little faggot deserved. His blue shirt exonerates him from punishment.  ::)

Having watched Naismith since he joined the Huns he's rapidly turned into a fucking horrible human being. His elbow against Dunfermline at East End Park underlined that IMO opinion. He's dirty, gurning moaning prick and as soon as he's fully recovered from his injury I will fight him. Someone set it up. Rocket can film it.

I did half expect Fallon to see red for his lunge but that doesn't mean that it was a fucking joke decision to give him a straight red for what was effectively a challenge in the air for a ball. Obviously Jelavic is allowed to kick whoever he wants because he is a dirty horrible hun. I'm surprised that no one's mentioning the kick out* that McGregor aimed at Fyvie (I think). It was similar to the one he aimed at Bebo last season. Obviously it being McGregor he missed but the fucking intent was there.  So aye a lot of the refereeing was shocking but the thing that disappointed me most was how fucking negatively we played. The Huns are fucking shite. How they've never lost away is beyond me unless Saturday was a real off day for them. They were there for the taking but we showed fear of their record and played for a draw and if you ask me we got what we deserved out of the game.

Considine did play well but Arnason and Osbourne weren't as dependable as usual. A lot of the players seemed to be slipping too (which is why Foster ended up on his arse right before their first goal). I though Clark did ok. You could tell that he hates the Huns and when their right-back got binned I was delighted. Fallon's effort levels weren't as high as I would've liked despite me telling him on Facebook that losing wasn't an option. We might as well release Mackie and Chalali for all the fucking use they are and just go with 5 on the bench.

The Hun support was its usual embarrassing self. Clear chants of "Ye can stick yer Tartan Army up yer arse" were heard before some of the many renditions of God Save Ra Queen. Many Rangers fans still follow Scotland closely. How must they feel when standing next to knuckle-draggers singing this? I'm so so glad that I wasn't raised as a Hun or a Tim. I can't even put into words how much I hate both insitutions.

Anyway.. this has to go down as another opportunity to beat the Huns wasted.

    * Edit: I see Chris Crighton has mentioned this in his article.

Excellent post, pretty much how I read everything too.

  6. Saying them "off the record" makes me believe those are his true feelings, and any comments made "on the record" are made very consciously towards saving face and lining himself up for another job.

Maybe not "on the record" but "off the record" you've clearly been slagging us off to anyone who buys you a coffee. Clearly he does have a lot of problems with people at Aberdeen.

This retraction is just digging his hole even deeper. Cunt.

Perecisely. Off the record or on the record, the statement you quote above is abundantly untrue.

Its all a bit sad really.

  7. Whoa people. McGhee made himself look like a twat in the interview but he is being misquoted by the stirring wos media and a thick inept ex-manager is fuelling this non-story grow legs by responding to it and thick readers are in danger of getting it all out of kilter, including believing the unbelievable.

If you don't know why he was sacked, then you're not AFC but don't for fucks sake come out with the just tell him shite. Just because the fat cunt wanted to take wages at our expense for as long as he could when it's clear nae other cunt wants him and never did, don't start believing the shite he speaks. He got sacked, He got telt why at the time. He didn't agree with it. Maybe he didn't see it coming because of his delusions of self but I aint having this.

Isn't Bryan Cooney a Dons fan?

  8. Obviously delighted to see the result on Friday, but I'm probably nowhere near as happy as Milne.

A victory against a very poor dunfermline side, and now an international break should see the embers of the uprising against him well and truly dowsed for now.

I'll bet he can't believe his luck.

Unfortunately, that give undue credit to the mixture of apathy and frustration that followed the East Fife defeat.

He's probably as unconcerned now as he was then.

  9. You're right, it is all relative. I can remember real glory, and what you mention above doesn't come anywhere close to it.  A couple of nice trips (which would have been nice for many despite what happened on the pitch), a couple of great nights to remember at Pittodrie... I'd swap every single bit of it for a trophy. That's glory.

I agree that trophies are the be all and end all, however, personally I'm in the catgory of supporters who have seen no better. My first Dons game was in the Aitken era - 'a couple of nice trips' is the best thing I've got as a Dons fan.

Sure I'd swap it for a trophy. I just hope I see us win one.  :-\

  10. BVB have had a relatively poor start to the league, including losing 2-1 at home to Hertha on Saturday. Agree though that if they get going then they'll cause the Arse a lot of problems. Mario Goetze is a tremendous player and they'll need to be right on top of him all night.

Aye, they don't seem quite as fluent as they were last season yet, not helped by the loss of Sahin. Hopefully they turn in a good showing tonight though as they're potentially a great addition to this year's competition.

  11. some very interesting champions league games this eve.  Biggest is easily barca vs milan but chances of getting that on in the pub are hee haw when chelsea and arsenal are on.  Dortmund v arsenal could be a real goal fest (obviously its worth sticking a few quid on 0-0 now i've said that.

Looking forward to watching this one. If BVB play to their best Arsenal will really struggle.

  12. Quite enjoyable game yesteraday despite the result.

Interesting to note the crowds at yesterdays games which not so long ago would have had the sold out signs at the gates:

    Rangers v Aberdeen - 44,070

    St Mirren v Celtic - 6,223

    Hearts v Hibs - 15,868

Not a huge surprise. Perhaps if the huns are struggling they should increase our allocation...

  13. Mawene's reading of the game and heading ability isn't a problem. His lack of speed is; balls over the top which don't cary through to the keeper are a constant issue for us without any decent pace at centre-half.

Otherwise we looked fine yesterday. Magennis was definitely an upgrade on Mackie, while Osbourne and Arnason were very good in the middle. Kari in particular looks a thouroughly decent footballer.
