  1. Still reckon that Gerrard's tenancy will last exactly as long as they remain in both cups - if he fails to win either I don't see him making it to summer.

Even if he runs Tic close in the league, but doesn't bring back silverware, the fans will just use that as justification that they should've actually won the league with a "better" manager and still sack him.

He'll probably do OK while things are going well. Couple of defeats and some poor performances and it will be interesting to see how he copes.

  2.

I’m not concerned about the actuality of Rooney leaving, it’s the fact that it’s another experienced player leaving and our season starts next week. We’ve lost/punted Stewart, OConnor, Arneson, McLean, Christie, Rooney, Rogers, and Maynard, six of those playing regularly. We’ve added Devlin who hasn’t played in a year and who is already carrying an injury, Forrester and Gleeson who I think will do well, and an 18 year old Ferguson. Of the recruits last year GMS is greatly inconsistent and a step or two down from Hayes, and May has so far failed to produce his St Johnstone form. Add Cosgrove to that, a youngster who doesn’t look like ever scoring. Fuck knows what happened to Tansey.

Please share specifics of what we should be optimistic about. We have three big games coming up, multiple injuries in a tiny squad, and losing Rooney just makes our squad even lighter.

I agree that the squad is a little light at the moment, but lets look at who we actually lost

Stewart  - League appearances 16 starts, 12 as a sub

OConnor - League appearances 37 starts, 1 as a sub

Arneson - League appearances 16 starts, 5 as a sub

McLean - League appearances 37 starts, 0 as a sub

Christie  - League appearances 28 starts, 4 as a sub

Rooney - League appearances 16 starts, 19 as a sub

Rogers - League appearances 2 starts, 1 as a sub

Maynard - League appearances 2 starts, 18 as a sub

Only 3 of those players were actually playing with any regularity. Let's not forget Nwakali who was absolute shite and managed 3 league starts and 2 sub appearances and Tansey who has burned his bridges and had 8 starts.

In terms of ability we lost 2 decent players, McLean and Christie. I'm not saying that we are in a decent place in terms of the squad at the moment and we need some squad players to make up for what's been lost, but the main areas where most fans thought needed strengthened last season still need strengthened, left back, squad player for right back cover and a goalscorer.

  3. I'd have no real issues with Tansey staying, as long as he wasn't a key part of the 11, as a squad player, no problem.

I agree that he wasn't, or at least didn't, seem as bad as he has been for us, and I can genuinely only remember him in one game, the drubbing at Ibrokes in where he gave away a ridiculous penalty, added to that, McInnes has said in the meeting with fans etc... that he showed no desire to stay and fight for a place, wanted to go back to his comfort zone? That alone merits being shown the door.

However, if he's since bucked his ideas up & is willing to train hard and improve his attitude, then by all means, hang around.

I think Tansey will be gone, regardless. Seem to remember reading an interview with DM where he said Tansey wasn't willing to stay and fight for his place and just wanted away.

Think those bridges are well and truly burned.

  4. The hard truth (oooherrr missus....) is that as long as the fact that somebody would be deemed to be different from others and thus need to "come out" and "admit they were gay" immediately makes it something to sensationalise and then becomes an issue that would do nothing but distract a player from what they were there to do.

While the spineless, faceless, corrupt organistaions that run the game on a national and international level fail to deliver punishments for racist and sectarian abuse then why the fuck would you?

    Saying that..*Nacho Novo...fuckin homo...

*then there's that fine line between banter and abuse.

  5. I travel past the site of the new place everyday going to work and afraid to say I will never get the same feeling about attending it, it feels very soulless.

In fairness, that could be down to the fact that at the moment it's an empty field...

    real fans go to games

ooocha, nobody is ever going to get a point across if the sentence includes the term "real fans".

there are a lot of memories to take from Pittodrie, opening the windows at home as a kid and hearing the roar coming from the ground. Knowing that my old man was going to have been part of that roar and that he was likely to be in a well happy mood when he came home. Sitting wanting to be there, to be part of that.

I grew up as the ground evolved. New stands went up, regular familiar features disappeared. The scoreboard, the gasworks, the bench seats, the Beach End. All sold to the fans as progress at the time but treated with an air of suspicion at the time.

We have a ground that doesn't hold sound, doesn't generate much of an atmosphere as it's generally carried away by a howling North Sea wind.

It's open and exposed to the elements, the seagulls are an absolute pain in the hoop if the mannie with the hawk isn't up on the SS roof.

    it is what it is....old.

I have a pre and post match routine now, it's changed over the years. As a youngster it was double JD's for the price of singles from 12, maybe the strippers, maybe not. Bars changes, Starry, Belmont....kids came along so pre-match was restricted to a pint if I had time, a few less after the game.

By the time the new stadium is finally built, my routines and outlook as to what is important will have changed again. Transportation links will change, roads will have opened, traffic flows will be different, alternate solutions to getting from A - B will be in place. For a while we used to go to the Masada and get their bus to Pittodrie, no different to getting a bus from my next pre match bar to a ground. I've done it before, I'll do it again and look forward to something that might improve my days experience.

  6. Sounded like they were surprised by it, so I reckon it was his own choice. Leaving on a high. Seems logical in the fickle world of management.

Saw some Tim on twitter saying how he was worried that Rodgers would be tempted by the Real Madrid gig and thus dismantle the squad he has at parkhead by taking key players with him.

I really hope to fuck that the post was written with more than a hint of sarcasm.

  7.

Also today the SFA are to hand UEFA the list of teams playing in Europe next year. What chance Sevco not on said list.

I'd say that the chances of SEVCO being denied the opportunity to fail in europe are slim, but, if there is a chance that the SFA are going to remove them from the list then it may explain Kings rants about wanting folk suspended from the SPFL board.

He'd somehow link the 2 into being some kind petty revenge, thus ensuring the huns chip on the shoulders get even bigger.

  8. It will be considered crass in some quarters to evoke truth or at least not ignore truth during a period of grieving - and I'm hurting big time tonight - but here's something younger people won't know;

Durrant was one of the most promising footballers Scotland had ever produced. His career was ended by that Neil Simpson assault. But it was Neale Cooper who inspired the assault through his sheer determination to win.

It was a determination that was pre-existing in his psyche but a will to win that his manager, SAF, didn't just recognise, but used to great effect.

Cooper was real. He gave his all on the pitch. He was programmed to fight and win and was so physically committed, he won more than he lost. They don't make them like that any more. RIP Nealie. Just a fantastic footballer and a perfect attitude in combat. We lost one of our best ever tonight. Love and respect.

Agree completely there. I've always said that he was the catalyst for that incident. Went steamin' in and started the chain of events that led to THAT tackle.

I was reading one of the many interviews with him that were recirculating last night. In one of them he spoke about THAT game, well, it was mentioned but he said that he wouldn't talk about it.

He felt some blame for the events of that day because he felt that the hatred from the terraces was ramped up by his presence.

Also said it was a difficult time because he considered both durrant and Simpson as good friends.

There's not many folk that have the personality and genuine likableness that could make me forget they'd turned out for them, he was.

When a genuine legend like this passes, something special needs to be done to permanently mark their passing. I hope the club does him proud.

  9. some guffy play off thingmy bob..

    Some things don't change though

    25 mins

    Coventry 0-0 Exeter

There's a break in play as Chris Stokes puts an ice pack to his face after Jayden Stockley's arm clatters into him after a challenge for an aerial ball.

Stokes goes down the tunnel to receive further treatment, meaning the Sky Blues are down to 10 men for the time being.

  10. I disagree, I think striker has been issue for a long time, and will continue to be next season as May clearly isn't an improvement on what we've got in Rooney. Striker is the one position that has prevented us from getting to the next level in Europe and taking more points off the tims. Rooney's limitations have been obvious for a few years now, despite having a phenomenal scoring record in general. Cosgrove provides something different for those types of games, but I doubt he'll be good enough to do that consistently and to the level required. I'd say that striker is equally as important as midfield right now and we should be spending the biggest portion of the budget on those two areas. That said, I'd class Shinnie as left back within that opinion, so really we'd be looking at two good midfielders. If we start next season with the same strike force as this, I think we'll struggle to improve. If it was a choice between a striker and defender then I think we could cope with a back four of Considine, McKenna, Devlin, Logan against opposition at Appollon's level (for example), but I think if we had to play May, Rooney or Cosgrove up front we'd be likely to lose again. Obviously, the answer is to be looking at 4 good players to fit straight into our first 11, but if we were putting an order to it I'd be saying midfielder, striker, midfielder, fullback/winger.

You see Rooneys limitations, I see Rooneys strengths.

He is a penalty box striker.

Knockdowns, rebounds, poachers goals. We've had decent ones in the past and they have all had the same "limitations"

The thing is, those limitations are that they are not going to thrive on the wing, they're not at their best tracking back and looking for the ball deep, they're not necessarily any good as a link up man....so why in the name of fuck is Rooney played in those positions when he does get a game?

  11. Article from when he moved...

    https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/sport/football/1145466/naismith-felt-time-was-right-to-leave-hometown-club-for-staggies/

Would suggest 2020, unless of a relegation release clause (if such a thing exists?).

Not according to Transfer Market, the press also all seem to be under the impression that he's a free agent.

  12. I'd happily swap Tansey for a set of training bibs based on his performances for us last season.

If the boy Ferguson gets some game time, first thing he needs to do is get an afc tattoo on his forehead and bang in a screamer against the huns and then get sent off for over celebrating, otherwise, given his family history, he is going to get crucified by the support.

I'd happily take Stewart back and hopefully some of the young boys will make a proper breakthrough next season.

  13. Loved Logan’s celebrations at the end. Assumed he had lobbed the ball at Boyata and that’s why he got the red. Utter nonsense on seeing that video. He’s been sent off for getting it up the tim support, but both Lustig and Boyata get away with assault?

Great smash and grab McInnes got tactics bang on with the man marking.

Good to see the young lad Cambell get on again. Hope we see more of him next season.

Griffiths tried lobbing the ball at Logans head as well.

Superb stuff, he really fucking hates the tims

  14.

The best we can hope for is a Hearts win tonight, and then Hibs to beat Sevco in the last game, that would guarantee us 2nd I believe.

Depends on how much Hearts won by tonight and how much we ship to the tims on Sunday. Goal difference is tight, I think we are currently only 1 goal better off than Hibs.

  15.

I'd fire Ball, Nwakali and O'Connor into space.

Nah, like a dodgy Chinese satellite they'd come back down to earth. Just to be sure I'd dig a big fuck off hole, line it with lead, deposit them in it and then fill it with quick drying cement.

In the case of Nwakali I suspect Man City would chip in for some of the costs.

  16.

Chiedi can't play football. He's as bad a recruitment decision as Maynard. I could go on forever. No point. Our manager is a fucking arse.

The one good thing about watching the boy Chidi is the knowledge that Man City clearly have a shite scouting system as well. That boy is no more a footballer than i am a fucking astronaut.

  17. who'd have thought, the club launch an initiative and folk start complaining because other people might like what the club are doing.

Complain when the club do nothing, complain when the club do something.

If folk have spare cash and want to invest in something that makes them feel as though they're getting something back other than freezing their chugs off at pittodrie then so fucking what.

I can't decide if it's jealousy, ignorance or just plain argumentativeness.

    :hammer:
