I'm very glad that I can watch the Dons most weeks and then switch off to all other football (Scotland aside). I do watch the occasional game on the telly (rarely a whole game), mainly the BBC Friday night championship, but there's not a single game in any competition that I feel I must watch. I often think that people (colleagues etc, rather than folk on here) think that I'm pretending when I say I couldn't care less about English football or champions league pish. Because I'm a football fan, I must automatically be attracted to the biggest league or tournaments (I do watch international tournaments, it still holds some enjoyment for now). They'll reel off some name of some famous English based player, and I genuinely won't have a clue who they're talking about. With this world club pish, I have no idea what it is and who it involves (I have some idea, but it's guesswork based on the name and your post). Football mirrors the rest of the world in that it views quantity as progress. More games, more money, bigger transfer fees, fitter players, stronger players etc etc. It's safe to say that football hasn't progressed at all in the last 35 years (bookended by two famous cup wins). It's just that the measures of progress are abstract and hollow, and have absolutely nothing to do with what sport means and its enjoyment. Hopefully this shite will be the tipping point* that starts the much needed collapse of the game (again, mirroring society). The saturation point reached. *alongside VAR of course5 points

Couldn't sleep very well last night and ended up getting up at 5 am this morning. Treated myself to watching the game, penalty shout out, presentation and aftermath in its entirety. It just keeps on getting better and better and something I will never tire of watching5 points

I remember there was a bit of hype when he first came on the scene in Norway, it'll be interesting to see who Farji has come.3 points

He has three years left on his contract. Would make sense to loan him to Aberdeen for a year then you'll get a better Miovski next season once Girona have sorted themselves out from the shit-show they were last season. Keskinen (who I think will really come alive next season), Milanovic and Miovski as our front three next season would be mouthwatering. Anyone have an email for Girona where I can submit this idea to?3 points

Yeah as much as I am an addict and will watch the games I hope this crashes and burns. It is really is a needless tournament in an already crowded schedule. Cannot see how players who played at Euros and Copa America last season will not be knackered after playing in this. Fact that this also being played while Gold Cup is on as means devalues that competition as well.2 points

That place is well known here for a rather nasty murder... https://www.abc.net.au/news/2020-02-29/katherine-mary-knights-john-price-murder-remembered-20-years-on/12006996 I expect jokes about Aberdeen players being skinned on the park or such.2 points

There is a ripple of interest here due to Auckland City participating, and football in general, having a bit more of a media interest. Kiwi teams, despite being the only amateur sides to take part, donāt often embarrass themselves on this stage, but I doubt the new format will suit them. regardless, I hope it fails. Fuck FIFA.1 point

Chelsea seem to have signed a belter of a player in Giovani Quenda. 2 goals and 1 assist in first 30 minutes for Portugal U21s against Poland. Games on 4seven (138 on Sky) in case anyone is bored.1 point

Surely it can't be long until they ruin this tournament? How about an East of Scotland league format, where each of the 16 teams plays one another four times. West of Scotland just plays three times because their side is rainier. With the scum playing each other twice in a separate "Champions" division. Winners from East division play each of the West division top four a further seven times (and vice versa), with the top three from both sections merging with the top two in the champions division to setup the quarter finals. Those quarter finals will take place on a Tuesday at midnight to suit Yemeni television - with whom the SFA have signed a lucrative deal said to be worth in the region of 1M Yemeni Rials. The winners will proceed to the semi finals, but not before the losers go through the Plate path, where there's a second chance for those clubs to play for the Scottish Plate. After last year's debacle, ticket allocation for the final will go through a fairer route, with allocation calculated based on proximity to Hampden. The closer you're home ground is to Hampden, the larger the allocation - last season's Scottish cup would have seen a far fairer 97% allocation for Celtic for example. This method will also be used to decide a winner in case of a draw, rather than the ridiculous lottery of a penalty shootout.1 point

Completely ridiculous given bigger sides have multi club ownership. If they really saw it as a problem, tackle multi club ownership first.1 point

Club world cup would be under FIFA rules not Uefa. Pedantic points aside that's pretty scandalous. Hope they win at CAS1 point

Or immediately before the first spot kick was taken... "Mitov's on fire, Callum McGregor's terrified"1 point

Finland 2-0 up with Keskinen getting 2nd. Finnish had hardly touched ball in first 25 minutes. Now 2-0 up after 30 minutes and fans singing Topiās name.1 point

The words of that could be changed to "mitovs on fire, tears are in Mcgregors eyes"1 point

Seems a decent player, but don't think there's any interest at all from Aberdeen. Likely they've thrown our name into the article to increase the views.1 point

One of the benefits of Cup win is that we now have more time to get players in before European games start so fact we need to wait for teams further up the chain to decide on their squads is mitigated a bit.1 point

You donāt think bringing McKenna on to play 6 at the back would help us come back from 3 down??1 point

Not 100% sure and don't have any names either, but I believe Yengi has been signed in addition to another striker, so you may well get your wish.1 point

Legend for Aberdeen, best keeper in the league, completely overlooked for the national side. As soon as he joins the Tims, Clarke calls him up straight away. Disgusting.1 point

It is a highly rated Cameroon born ex French youth international who came through the Ajax ranks and was once bought by Juventus for £14M but got loaned out to the Italian third division and available to us for £800,000. Goal record to date is 14 in 248 games. Got options to sign for clubs all over Europe apparently but his dream was always to play in the Europa League qualifying rounds. Also went on holiday with Palaversa in 2017.1 point
