Scotland squad for Wales and Serbia

Strachan names squad for qualifying double-header

Thursday, 07 March 2013

2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil Qualifiers

Scotland v Wales

Friday, 22 March 2012, kick-off 8pm

Hampden Park, Glasgow

Serbia v Scotland

Tuesday, 26 March 2012, kick-off 8.30pm (local time)

Karadorde Stadium, Novi Sad

Scotland national coach Gordon Strachan has added three new recruits for the FIFA World Cup Brazil 2014 Qualifying double-header against Wales and Serbia this month.

Gary Mackay-Steven has been rewarded for his scinitllating displays at Dundee United with a call-up.

Subject to Scottish FA clearance, Brighton and Hove Albion’s holding midfielder, Liam Bridcutt, will also been included, to counterbalance the loss of captain Darren Fletcher and the Celtic midfielder, Scott Brown.

George Boyd has also made it into his first A squad, with the Hull City forward in fine form under Steve Bruce. Boyd played and scored for Scotland B in a 3-0 win against Northern Ireland in 2009.

“Gary Mackay-Steven has been terrific this season and I think it is only right that we recognise young Scottish talent,” said Gordon. “Liam is a player I have known for a while and is highly regarded in the holding midfield position.

“Again, George is a player I have watched for years – I tried to sign him at Middlesbrough – and is in good form at Hull City.”

I've just switched off, if Strachan is going to give up before its started, so am I.

I'd appreciate some sort of match report. Was at work so couldn't follow the game, just saw the result online.

Were we still as pish? (looking at the team I'd guess yes), was it a sending off? Was gayboy Bale a twat? (I know the answer to that I think)

Basically, how bad are we, is there any hope?

I think we were doing well until Strachan said "Hey Mark I really need to go for a pish, can you manage the team for a few minutes"?

It was very much like the game in Cardiff but with less possession. We were unlucky not to go two up. It was a penalty but a bit unfair to be a second yellow. (maybe)

No hope.

Same shit new manginger.

The manager is of little importance i think, whoever it is they are trying to work with absolutely shit players. Time to face the facts, watershed moment, we just don't have good enough players.

Outplayed at home by a very average Wales team. I'll be amazed if we win a game in this campaign.

Re qualifying for the next Euros (24 teams and all that)

A quick list of 24 teams better than us!

Spain

Germany

France

Italy

Holland

England

Denmark

Eire

Russia

Croatia

Portugal

Belgium

Greece

Switzerland

Romania

Czeck Republic

Slovakia

Slovenia

Serbia

Ukraine

Poland

Sweden

Norway

Turkey

Not including Hungary, Wales, Macedonia, Austria and probably others.

Not a pleasant thought.

Until we have wholesale change of playing personnel, attitude, governance (and dare I say management style?), let alone training and playing styles we are fucked.

There's still 5 more of these games to play! Fuck that, can we not forfeit now and not go to the bother of playing them? Wales did the double over us...WALES!?

Retreat. Regroup. Fuck this shit!

Where did you end up watching the game mav? I thought Snodgrass was unlucky, stupid tackle in a silly position but hey ho.

Ended up in walkabout down by the river (blackfriers?) surprisingly not as shit a place as i expected. Should've pulled a stunning student too but was too depressed by full time for chat. Scotland have a LOT to answer for!

Snodgrass was unlucky not to score a peach but thought the pen/red was totally fair. Bizarrely all the welsh folk with us thought we were hard done by!?

I fell asleep within seconds of kick off and woke up when Wales scored their second and went back to sleep. Don't even know why I bothered watching the first 20 seconds.

Haha never let Scotland get in the way of a result! I've been there a few times, certainly not the best place but i've always had a decent enough time there.  It's a lot more expensive than you would think though!

Missed the game so was relying on live text, didn't seem like i missed anything.  Doubt i'll watch the game this week.

i'd rather it goes ahead simply so it's one more game gone and closer to the end of one of the worst qualifying campaigns in decades, if not ever.

Bridcutt, Hanley, Marshall, Boyd.

Get in.

Bridcutt, Hanley, Marshall, Boyd.

Get in.

Pretty fair analysis  ;)

Oh well!  :(

Gary Caldwell 55 caps

One word

How  ???

I rest my case unfortunately.....just put the ball in Row FUCKING Z

Does this mean e're the first European team to be guaranteed non-qualifiers? Sure I read that somewhere.
