As you may know, Red Stars is an Aberdeen supporters team based in Glasgow but with members from as far a field as Ayrshire, Dunblane, Stirling and Edinburgh.

 

We’re currently looking at moving into the official Scottish Supporters League which will be a step up in terms of organisation of our current league. 

 

If we are accepted into this league, we will be facing teams from the Old Firm, Hearts, Falkirk, Motherwell amongst others from the Central Belt, and this is your chance to represent Aberdeen.

 

We are currently looking for players from across the Glasgow area, Central and Ayrshire to join the club.  This will give you the chance to represent the Dons, meet other Dons fans in the area, join our AFC registered Supporters Club and of course improve your fitness and football skills with regular training sessions (usually Thursday evenings) and league matches (Sunday afternoons).

 

As I mentioned earlier, we have lads involved from all over the Central Belt taking in Edinburgh, Stirling and Ayrshire amongst others, so please do not feel you are too far away for getting involved.  Even if you don’t want to play in the matches, you are more than welcome to come along to training sessions.

 

So, if you are interested or know of anyone who would be interested, please just drop us a note at clubfutbolaberdeen@gmail.com for the attention of Stuart or Greg.

Long time since there was an update on the team's results, so how is it going 

 

Currently 5th in the league mate, lost 3-2 last Sunday to St Mirren, should have got all 3 points as the lads had their best performance of the season.  I really felt for them as they deserved so much from the game.

 

The reason there hasn't been updates is that a lot of games have been called off and that one gimp from Mad (Mason 89) caused a fair bit of aggro after the report of the Dumbarton game so the decision was made to can it, unfortunately.

 

But I really was so proud of the lads last Sunday. They played the game in the manner it should be played and really deserved to take the 3 points.

He's from Dumbarton, he knew a lot of their players and was running back and saying "they're saying this about you..." and basically just shit stirring, so relations between the two clubs were a bit strained. Farcical, really.

1-1 against St Mirren at their place today.  They had most of the play and certainly took the game to us.  Backs against the wall against a team likely to get promotion and yet in the last 5 mins the Dons had a goal chopped off for next to fuck all and 2 other amazing chances to snatch it. 

 

Got a free Sunday next time out so all the lads can get to Fir Park but got the League Cup coming up after that against Partick Thistle and it can't come quickly enough after such a strong performance today.

won 2-1 today against Cadzow Accies away.  One down at half time, came back really strongly in the second and scored 2 great goals. Should have had more but a cracking performance all round.

How close are the Red Stars to top six glory?

2-2 today against Dumbarton at their place.  2 behind after 30 mins, the lads got themselves into the game after a sluggish start, started knocking the ball around and pressing their backline and had equalised by the 50th minute.  Sons had one shot at goal in the second half that brought a great save from our keeper, other than that it had a reds victory stamped all over it but the third goal just didn't come despite almost constant pressure.

 

Not a disastrous result considering the start but the lads and myself felt very disappointed all 3 points didn't come back up the road.

Is the squad still much the same as it was last year? This is Stuart (Brown) - not sure if you remember me as it's been a while since I played.

 

I'm now in one of the teams that plays in a Monday night league so I can fit it around my work, but if you're playing friendlies over the summer maybe we could give you a game at some point. By the sounds of it you'd probably hammer us.

How you doing stuart? that'd be good. when you free?

 

EDIT: Meant to say Stuart, we've planned to start pre-season friendlies from the middle of July onwards, so if you could fit it around then that'd be ideal.

Red Stars 6 Stirling Albion 0

 

Glasgow’s Aberdeen supporters team swept aside the challenge of promotion hopefuls Stirling Albion at a glorious Blairdardie yesterday afternoon.  24 hours after the inept performance of the “big team” at Hampden Park, Red Stars showed how an Aberdeen side should play – by passing their way through the opposition and keeping the ball on the deck.

 

After a bright opening from both sides, Gordon Brady broke on the right for Reds and won a throw in five yards from Albion’s touchline.  Steven Ford launched the ball on to the six yard line where captain Martin MacDonald held off his marker to header into the corner. This settled the home side down and the chances started coming thick and fast. Michael Hopcroft skinned his marker on the left and linked well with front man Peter Shaw whose cross was met at the back post by the on rushing Brady but his superb header crashed back off the bar and Albion bundled the ball away.  From the resulting corner, Reds defender Stuart Tuckwood hit a sweet volley from 20 yards but Albion’s keeper made a superb save at his top right hand corner.

 

With the Dons now on the ascendancy Albion struggled to get their game going and their centre forward and main danger man was marshalled superbly well by Stuart Hay and Lee Ross at the back. Neil McDonald and Chris Pincombe worked tirelessly and with skill to keep the Red Stars midfield on top of their Stirling counterparts by pressing the opposition at every opportunity.  At half time the Dons were unlucky only to be one goal to the good.

 

The message at the interval was for more of the same and to exploit the high backline of Albion and within minutes of the re-start Ford had played a delightful through ball to strike partner Shaw who beat his man for pace and his powerful near post drive was pushed behind by the Albion keeper.  A period of sustained pressure eventually brought the reward Reds were looking for when another Ford throw in was again met by MacDonald who powered a header into the top corner.

 

The third wasn’t far away and when Brady released Ford down the right, the front man’s 20 yard effort was deflected past the despairing Albion keeper.  The third deflated Albion and the Reds were first to every ball and Ford and Brady in particular were finding a lot of joy down the right hand side. After good work from the central midfield men, Ford again broke free this time through the middle. He superbly held off the attentions of the centre half and rounded the advancing keeper and coolly placed the ball into the empty net for Red Stars fourth of the day.

 

The Reds rang the changes with Phil Cathcart, Stuart Clay and Fraser Murray coming on for Shaw, Hopcroft and Neil McDonald but there was no let up in the Reds attacking play. Ford hit the bar with a powerful header after great work by Brady on the right and Cathcart should have had a penalty after he was brought down by the Stirling keeper.  But Cathcart eventually got his reward when he out ran the defence, kept his balance superbly and rounded the keeper for five.

 

With just a minute left on the clock, good work from Murray in midfield got the ball to MacDonald who found Clay on the edge of the box and his thunderous left foot strike arrowed into the top corner for the game’s last – and best goal. Clay proceeded to celebrate like a cross between Willie Miller in 1985 and Marco Tardelli in 1982.  A fitting end to a superb performance. Goalkeeper Christian Stott had little to do all day but to his credit kept his focus for the whole match and worked well with his defence which gave Red Stars the base to mount attack after attack.  It’s five undefeated now for Red Stars in the league, and with only 1 game left of the season, it has been a very decent debut season in the Scottish Supporters League.

Delighted to say the Dons first game is at home to Sandbank Sevco on 19 August.
