Brown prepares for a major Dons overhaul

Aberdeen manager Craig Brown has promised there will be a major overhaul of the Dons squad to provide a team worthy of the club’s supporters.

 

Brown is already looking to next season after his side slumped to a 4-0 defeat by Celtic in yesterday’s Scottish Cup semi-final at Hampden.

 

The majority of the Dons players are out of contract at the end of the season and Brown is preparing for a clearout. He will make contract offers to the players he wants to keep but he will not be left waiting for answers as he intends to press ahead with the changes.

 

Brown said: “I want to rebuild Aberdeen. I looked out at Hampden and there were 10,000 supporters who were still behind us at 4-0 down.

 

“There is not another club in Scotland who get that backing and I will be doing everything I can to give them a team they deserve.

 

“There is major rebuild needed in the summer and we will probably need at least six new players. That is no disrespect to the current players. We have six of them out injured and Richard Foster to return from Rangers.

 

“If they are all fit and available they will make a difference but a lot will then depend on the players who are out of contract.”

 

Brown wants to offer deals to some, such as goalkeeper Jamie Langfield, attacker Sone Aluko and midfielder Rob Milsom, while forward Chris Maguire and defender Zander Diamond are expected to depart.

 

The new contracts will be on the table for a limited time only as Brown is not prepared to wait indefinitely for answers. His salary budget for next season is not expected to be reduced dramatically and he is confident he has enough funds to construct a side which can compete in the upper half of the SPL.

 

He said: “If they all go it will free up money to bring in quality replacements. We are not working on transfer budget, we are working on salary budget. If we lose some players there will be money to attract good players because Aberdeen still offer attractive wages.

 

“We need to know who is going to be here first. We will not wait forever. We will talk to them next week and will set a deadline to get back to us. If they do not we will assume they are going. If they come back again the offer might not be there.”

 

Aberdeen face five unappetising SPL encounters in the meantime but Brown wants a positive conclusion to the season.

 

With £80,000 per place on offer as prize money, he has financial incentives as well.

 

He said: “I want to end this season in style. We can still catch teams above us and I want to finish seventh. We will experiment.”

 

Dons attacker Scott Vernon’s season is over. Vernon will see a specialist tomorrow before undergoing groin surgery later in the week. The player has been troubled by the problem recently.

Which by my reckoning means at least 12 should fuck off, 4 are good enough (for now), 4 are worth keeping, and the rest are just youth players.

What's Megginson done to grind your gears Dave? A promising youngster from what I have seen of him and probably had gotten more game time this season had it not been for Tokely assaulting him at Caley earlier in the season. Don't agree with getting rid of him at all. Also don't see how you can bracket Paton, Pawlett and Fyvie as 'kids' and not Megginson. Would be more inclined to get rid of Paton. Done very little of any note during his time at AFC and any respect or inkling that we should keep him, quickly disappeared when a few of my mates seen him getting tossed off under the blackjack table in Gala Casino.  Also don't agree with Hartely, although I think he only has another season in him. Fyvie just coming back from a serious injury and probably not ready to fully get into it, Hartely will stay on for another season yet.

 

I'm not disagreeing with you that the squad needs a major overhaul but these things dont happen overnight. Brown has got to identify players he feels will improve the squad and he has to do that quickly. Hopefully, over the course of the summer, we will see more changes that what are currently being spoken about now.

Face facts - none of the youngsters are promising - they will have any signs of promise obliterated by their own egos, shite haircuts and drinking culture after a few first team games!

 

They're always touted as the "new <insert big name of the time>" but they're always far short of that.

 

They're pish - no amount of "promise" can get away from that. That's why Aberdeen are pish, skint and heading doon the toilet.

 

Face it - if they were promising they wouldn't be at Aberdeen. Because they're not promising is the reason they'll all end up playing for Peterheid.

If the club think this is acceptable they seriously need to take a running jump. I don't care what financial situation we're in, it is time they put up the cash for their failures. The fans deserve better. Sort it out AFC! 

 

The board at AFC need to take a long, hard look at the mess that we are in. Gates are down and if this is what we can expect for next season, then season ticket sales WILL slump. Confidence with AFC is at an all time low.

We as fans need to galvanised by a little positive action from those utter utter cunts that are in the process of ruining our club. And that means positive action in the transfer market to bolster those positions around the decent youngsters at the club.

Totally, I sent an email to Dave MacDermid about this very matter this morning. As it was slightly negative (though I did try to highlight positive PR moments in the club recently to try and increase the chances of a response) I don't expect a reply from the club.

Nothing - I mistook him for Megennis. He can stay until he's proven to be shite (ie. played 3 games)

 

I'm not convinced any of our current group of kids are any good at all (except Fyvie). They only appear good because the current first team and the last few batched of kids have been almost without exception shite.
