  1. Looks like you'll get the chance to find out. The @aberdeenstadium twitter obviously reads this forum - they've put it to a poll.
  2. Whatever. Whether I'm a dick or not, I'm still correct. Where's your evidence that we could re-build an 18,000 stadium on the current site?
  3. I wrongly presumed you would have google and the ability to type the words "new stadium building regulations", but I've obviously given you too much credit ? Here you go, first result, 232 pages. Use the contents page to direct you to the relevant parts. http://www.safetyatsportsgrounds.org.uk/sites/default/files/publications/green-guide.pdf As a note, we wouldn't lose depth but gain height. The flats would make that difficult anyway. As Tom says, there simply is not enough space for an 8,000 capacity stand.
  4. All new stadium builds, the concourse has to be able to hold 30-50% of "the viewing area that the concourse serves".. The south stand falls well short of that just now, so the stand would have to be wider. Then, the area outside the stand needs to be wider than it currently is. Only way to do it would be to make the capacity of the stand much smaller than it is now, therefore reducing capacity.
  5. If you want to rebuild the south stand (and it will need rebuilt, going to take more than a new roof), then we can't build it on the current footprint. We'd need to kick the residents out of their flats and knock them down. Same with the Merkland.
  6. He also thinks trying to buy flats off current residents, then buying the land, then getting planning permission, then knocking it down and building a stadium is simply "a bit of dicking around". Even if you think Pittodrie is a better location than Kingsford, staying will be far more expensive, will take far longer, and the end result won't be anywhere near as good.
  7. Very much this. And since you've posted this no-one has answered it either. £25m is nowhere near enough to redevelop Pittodrie and keep it at 20,000 capacity. We maybe could do it for £50m, but have nothing to sell to get us started. Chelsea are having to knock down the "Chelsea village" in order to redevelop Stanford Bridge. I don't know how much of the £500m they are spending is being spent on that, but likely to be a fair chunk. Aberdeen would have to purchase the flats behind the South and Merkland, plus the land, and likely the road running behind the main stand. Only then they could think about building three new stands. Forget Hearts and Hibs, they built stands in the 90s. If Hearts were only thinking of building them stands now they wouldn't be able to do it. We could just forget the Merkland and only build the south and main stands. It would probably still cost more than phase two of the Kingsford project, and I can only imagine what the place would look like when finished. Probably not great. What we would be left with is a more expensive stadium, and one not as good, all so we can stay in an area that is not actually that great in regards to traffic, parking and the close proximity to the North Sea. A redevelopment of Pittodrie, unless flattened and started again, would be marginally better than what we currently have but no-where near as good as what is being proposed at Kingsford. I accept the location of Kingsford perfect, but the costs involved in staying at Pittodrie make it unrealistic. As for the Kingsford plans, I think they are great. An enclosed bowl with corners filled in, TV screens, suppprters bar, fanzone, museum, safe standing. Build some sort of rail or tram link to it (similar to what is being proposed for Glasgow airport from Paisley train station) and job's a good 'un.
  8. Stop telling everyone to "shut the fuck up" then every time they post something you don't agree with.
  9. Open letter from "Dons fans voice collective" to the club. Dear Duncan George & Stewart We are writing this to you regarding matters this season and seasons past involving, failure on part of AFC to adequately engage with Aberdeen supporters, treatment of Aberdeen Supporters and in more detail treatment of those in the Merkland Singing Section. Issues such as, but are not limited to the following areas: – A reply to questions put to AFC as to why AFC were contacting other clubs in Scotland attempting to discourage match day supporter displays. – Why the club lied at recent AGM telling the floor they had been in contact with those responsible for the stunning League Cup Final display at Hampden and thanking them when this simply isn’t the case . – Appointinment of Community Trust chief executive as SLO just to appease UEFA competition guidelines. – Appointment of a Supporters Liaison Officer (SLO) into the Club without consultation with Supporters groups / Supporters Trust or wider fan base etc – Failure of said SLO to engage with supporters groups on a day-to-day basis in order to facilitate a more enjoyable and effective match day experience – Failure of said SLO to engage with supporters groups for major games and to facilitate smooth access to Pittodrie and other stadia to be visited – Failure of SLO to engage positively with Supporters groups and other clubs in order to facilitate a coordinated and organized approach to maximizing noise generation and fan displays at away games – Actively and physically segregating, pressurizing and marginalizing of fans in the Merkland Singing section from other fans through use of hostile stewarding, “dead zone” seating strips and general poor attitude shown towards supporters wishing to support their team in a positive manner. – Misleading information regarding occupancy of Merkland block seating in order to undermine the success of the initiative and prevention of other fans joining the section throughout the game. – Failure to plan effectively for League Cup Final to ensure effective noise generation in order to back the team effectively by refusing to allocate area for vocal fans . – Failure of AFC across internal departments (General management, Stadium Access, Ticketing, security etc in order to facilitate an organized and structured and most importantly a respectful approach to AFC supporting individuals working on an unpaid volunteer basis in order to encourage the team positively and to enhance the matchday experience for many people. The recent League Cup Final showed that AFC has little regard to its fans wider match day experience and even less for creating a spectacle and that the Cup final atmosphere would “look after itself” as one AFC official was quoted as saying. Anyone who witnessed the Cup final was that those that made the effort and expense of travelling to Glasgow to set up the pre match display done a fantastic effort given that there was no input nor even the respect of reply from AFC from requests from fans made to make the day a spectacle and an positive atmosphere for the duration of the match. The lack of Aberdeen supporter positive atmosphere generation, particularly after going a goal down (and then more) was very evident.Had there been an area for vocal fans this could have helped create a louder backing for the team. No doubt AFC will be using footage and photography from the matches with flags, card displays etc for future marketing material, all the while actively discouraging it and disregarding the fact that positive fan interaction does make a difference to the team on the park is wholly unacceptable. We request the following: – AFC immediately engage with their staff & AFC fans representatives in order to stop these negative aspects reoccurring – Appoint a fan elected SLO – one that has a wide understanding or proven background in match day supporter participation, supporter liaison, match day display management. – Empower the SLO to form a positive working relationship with the Aberdeen support and other clubs respective SLO’s to ensure that the team, the supporters (the customers) are all given the correct priority support to ensure forward progress is made on all levels. – Ensure that the SLO is meeting the reasonable expectations of the Club, AFC support and wider regulatory bodies such as the Police and other Football Clubs etc. – The SLO is active in meeting with AFC fans to gather detailed information on future stadia requirements from the “in game” perspective. We have a supporter in mind, someone who has engaged with the support and more importantly is respected by the support .The same fan has put on many a spectacle at Aberdeen FC games at home and away for the best part of 20 years .He has organised some of the best displays in the UK, helped add colour to AFC centenary events.Always paid tribute to fans who have sadly passed. He is great with the kids and young fans and always gets them involved . The fans trust him and he’s known throughout the support as he’s always present . We have a petition that hundreds of fans have signed asking that the club appoint Stephen McCormick as our Supporters Liaison Officer. With the amount of work he has done over the years, dealing with clubs up and down the country, having to deal with the SFA and SPFL he has already proven he has a vast knowledge of modern day football and its supporters. We look forward to hearing from you in due course. Signed Dons fans voice collective.
  10. Yeh I think there is apathy, and it's more than just about results. On the pitch we're still better than Hearts yet there's Jambos commenting ther club have never been in a better place. - missed opportunity. Many feel maybe we should have been more ambitious when Celtic were at their weakest, and that the club were too content with second. With Rangers up there seems an inevitability that the status quo will soon be returned and we're not doing much to stop it. - McInnes. People talk of players regressing. He seems to have regressed as a manager. - Celtic. There is no title race. We only sold 17,000 against them in October. Last season that would have been a full house. - Stadium. Club should be getting everyone excited about it. They've been lukewarm about it, releasing one cheap looking interior shot. Rapid Vienna had a fly through video, showing everything from outside, to pitch level, to the standing and away sections, to inside the corporate. Give us something that makes us say "wow". At the moment, I don't feel we as a club have anything to look forward to. - Engagement with club. There is a disconnect there. The stuff about the displays and the singing section being closed off with fans searched, it creates a sense the club is run by stuffy suits. They would rather release pointless surveys than sit down and speak to fans. - Hearts. Why are they so happy but we're not? Stadium being one year away from being completed helps, as do the sell outs. Having the foundation of Hearts, meaning at some point they will be a fan owned club, must be good to have. At the moment the fans feel part of the club through FOH. We've got Dons Supporters Together - they've not managed to garner enough support and the feeling is they're not making much difference either.
  11. I don't know, I've been twice (both for Scotland games) and that's what the toilets were like, but it's a big place so maybe there are cubicles somewhere. Before the game in November though it was a mess before the game had even started. It was taking that long that people began to either go in two at a time. Was piss all over the seats, paper towels stuck to everything. My mate is a regular at Scotland away games and has Crohns desease. Good help him if he needed to go in there.
  12. Always thought Tynecastle's was a lot worse. Talking of the Emirates though (mentioned on previous page) - for a modern stadium the facilities are poor. As are Wembley. Both have not only small toilets totally unsuitable for the capacities of the two stadiums, but either by design or maybe modern regulations, they haven't bothered building the "troughs" which may look unsightly but are needed when hundreds of fans are squeezing in. Arsenal have a small number of urinals, and Wembley haven't bothered with them at all, just having cubicles which of course lead to a horrendous mess when fans piss all over the seats and paper towels get stuck everywhere. My point is Aberdeen, just keep the toilets simple. And big.
  13. Do people really rate Storie above Jack?
  14. Rooney did very little in the cup game at Tynecastle. I doubt he would have done much better than Church last night. What that Hearts defence don't like is a smaller striker with quick movement. That's why they struggle against Leigh Griffiths and Jason Cummings, why Niall McGinn was able to get so many chances last night (unfortunately couldn't take them) and why our best performance against Hearts this season was when David Goodwillie was up front.
  15. I wondered if perhaps the car park or surrounding footprint had a risk of flood. I said in the original post I didn't mean the stadium itself. The 24 page report signalled that yes, there is a risk of flood, but unlikely where the stadium would be. Like I said, was worth asking the question, whether it was stupid or not. Not sure it was worth you having a panic attack about it though.
