  1. Not even sure that's the case.  I think it was more a case of they couldn't, absolutely could not, afford to not get the PL after losing the CL. Supposedly their average for the Sunday 4pm game is 2m viewers. They have 10m subscribers, at £30 a month.... something doesn't quite add up even chucking in advertising revenue there's still a bit to go.

Do pubs not have to pay thousands a month, that can vary depending in the size, to be able to have sky sports? I always that was there main income with home subscribers just being a bonus?

  2. They did vote for the UTG overhaul (whether rightly or wrongly) and simply got ignored by the council.  I don't think you can put the blame on the residents.  At all.

Would have paving over a victorian gardens have made Aberdeen a much better city? It's the dour attitude and the  nouveau riche from the oil that bring the city down.

  3. Fuck him... we're in the same position we were in yesterday.  Beat them and match their results in the rest of the fixtures and we win the league so its still in our hands.

I watched the Motherwell match until they scored. It's depressing just how routine is it though. I still think Aberdeen will win the league though.

  4. Don't understand why folk can't just like what they like without having to face ridicule for it. I should give yous all such a slagging for liking all that shite but it's nae my style. ;)

You should listen to the best country album ever made...

  5. It is your opinion that a whole religion is parochial. It is your opinion that Islam is inward, backward, discriminatory etc. Whilst I find Islam and indeed all organised religions offensive in many respects, I recognise that it is just my opinion. I respect the fact that for so many millions, it's the whole code by which they live.

Not that it's relevant at all unlike what one confused poster above seems to think but I have dealt extensively with Arabs and been in their countries during Ramadan etc. What is relevant is that my rejection of their religion is a qualified one. I read the Bible in full, voluntarily and made a point of reading the Koran and studying (not academically) all religions before rejecting them all in establishing my own beliefs. But I would never use judgemental adjectives such as "backward". That is poor, so typically "western" and Sun headliney.

Whatever my opinion, qualified as I may be or not to comment on such a significant part of the existence for so many, I wouldn't draw a picture of the prophet with his arse hinging oot, far less publish the obscenity. I would also have the decency and respect for other people not to insult them by having the prophet snogging a man and repeatedly producing images designed to offend, images that in my judgement were grossly inappropriate, totally over the top and disproportionate to whatever ill-conceived objective they could possibly have.

If they were trying to be funny, only 60,000 readers agreed. The 5m+ windfall sympathy injection won't bring their dead back. They wouldn't be dead if they hadn't been so infantile, offensive and disrespectful of others.

Why would you study religion when it is created by man? Does it not have as much basis as Scientology, Mormonism etc.? I don't understand why one should take Christianity more seriously than any of the former, especially when Christianity has taken vast swathes of ideas from previous beliefs people held.

My main arguments against believing in a deity is the arrogance that we have been created and not just formed by chance. I like the idea that life is futile and pointless and that there is no real meaning. Even if there was a creator he must be an absolute bastard for the things to happen to us. How can some people believe in a god when such terrible things happen? Even if a creator did exist I would not want to worship or even be in their presence.

I also don't really understand what your point about the offensive cartoons is. What is the answer to it? Yes, they may have been grossly offensive but do you want that to be illegal or a different alternative? I don't know enough about the cartoons or muslim life to make a judgement about how offensive they may or may not be but I do know that one should be allowed to publish anything they want. The problem when you start arguing against freedom of expression is what is the answer? A fine? Prison? The argument about if something is offensive and if something should be illegal are two vastly separate questions that a lot of people seem to forget.

I often find your opinions a bit of an enigma. I am never really sure where you will stand on certain issues but am interested in your thought process non the less.

  6. Congratulations. It is wholesome and hearty to see ignorance put down with clinical efficiency, in absolute terms from where there is zero prospect of any credible comeback. That it was done with a robustly functioning sense of humour, the icing on the cake.

In a new year where Charlie Hebdo has dominated the news and the debate about freedom of expression came to the fore, it is interesting that not one commentator spoke about taste or decency or motive or the potential effects of provocation.

Where one has been challenged in words on an online forum by a stupid or sick boy, then it is open season as to the nature of the retort which leaves them urinating into their shoes, to use his analogy.

But where there has been no previous attack - and in the events last week, let's be honest, how can a whole religion attack a bunch of cartoonist individuals - why was the publication so consistently and gratuitously offensive towards Allah? Surely any reasonable man could have foreseen that their "humour" would have generated huge offence amongst many and it was foreseeable that a radical nutjob or a thousand would have had steam coming out their ears and a sweaty angsty finger hovering over their trigger.

The slaughter of the staff in Paris last week was a shocking disgrace, the act of two madmen. But it wouldn't have happened in Scotland. We don't have arsehole cartoonists, weak wimpy men hiding behind their pens, poking derision at whoever they feel like just because they can, mistakenly believing that freedom of speech was their shield to protect them for all evil. That some of their cartoons were shockingly offensive bordering on sick, without good taste, well beyond any line of decency in many cases and always provoking a reaction for the sake of it, by fuck they got one.

In the words that Voltaire is often wrongly attributed, "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it". Why should parochial, inward, backwards, discriminatory, sexist, homophobic beliefs be shielded from ridicule? These men weren't hiding behind there cartoons, they were open about their beliefs of freedom of speech and expression. To say otherwise is just untrue. Maybe you just envy the over the top and disproportionate response which often seems to be your method of choice on here and elsewhere.

  7.

As previously instructed I'm going to ignore this post on account of the time at which it was posted and I'll assume you were inebriated.

I don't have a problem with him watching Celtic. I would like to see our players celebrate more when we score against Celtic though. Even Hayes seemed reluctant.

I don't think what I said was that bad. Posted a hell of a lot worse things after coming back from the pub.

Get a grip, Jesus he went to one game of football.

Fair enough he's in the public eye but that doesn't mean he should be banned from doing what he likes in his own time.

When he spends his spare time bringing the club into disrepute by doing something actually wrong you can throw that excuse about all you like, until then dry your eyes.

It's the whole mentality of Scottish football that is the problem though. The vast majority of the players seem to support one of the old firm and i don't think it can be good for a team or an individual. That image of the St Mirren players celebrating a Celtic goal before one of there games - it's just shows how embarrassingly parochial Scottish football is.

  8. If a punter has a ticket at 40/1 and the best odds you'll get now is 11/1, why would you think he is "very silly"?

Because I know he will never lay it off, he is a student and put way too much money on the bet and even at 10/1 there is a very good chance he will lost money he should just have kept. Gambling is bad though. Horrible horrible thing. I am pretty sure I haven't gambled in a good five months or so. I am doing well.

  9. At the end of the day who really gives a fuck?!

It's well known he's a celtic fan, he was there with an ex team mate and it's not like they were playing aberdeen at the time.

What he does in his own time is his own business. People need to get over themselves.

Being a footballer isn't like a normal job. You get paid a hell of a lot to play for a team in an almost pantomime world. Why would you then go and then support your teams biggest rivals? It's embarrassing and it really just shouldn't be happening. How hard is it just to watch the game on tv?

Add this up with the shite apology at Celtic park I think he should be shown the door. Football is a tribal game. If you can't even celebrate scoring against your own team or, at least, not go and see them when you have the day off then you should just fuck off.

  10. I see it like this.  We can win the league, we have everything going for us.  Great manager, unified team that is fast becoming (but not yet become) greater than the sum of it's parts (though it's not far away) and most importantly a winning no fear mentality.

We have, at the moment, something that no non O/F side has had since mad vlad sacked burley.  A fighting chance.  A couple of wise recruitments in January and we are well on our way. For the record I punted on us for the title in July, got 25/1, and whilst it was an optimistic punt I didn't think we would be too far away if it didn't come in.

Consider this.  Atletico won la liga and got to the CL final with resources dwarfed by madrid and barca.  Montpellier did the same in Ligue 1 a few years back.  A lot of commentators and their own supporters would have said no chance about their chances at this stage of their respective seasons.  Statistical probability states that the O/F cannot win the league forever more, why not us this year?

Pretty sure one of my good friends put on £50 on Aberdeen to win the title at 40/1. I still think he is very silly. But we should be expecting to win the league as half the fun of football is being optimistic. The OF dominance will have to end one day and atm it must be the best chance there has ever been. Very weak league without Rangers, Hearts and Hibs. Really we should be expecting to win every game bar those against Celtic and if we do that we will win the league.

  11. Forums have admins and are self regulated. Anything really offensive will be removed fairly quick by the mods as they are responsible for the content of the board. Twitter and Facebook take little to no responsibility to what is posted by its members Also you need to be a member of forums to read a lot of the stuff and its not so easy to hit the retweet button to share it with your friends and the wider world. A joke about a general offensive subject is one thing. A joke aimed purely about a recent tragedy is something you need to watch your audience with or in the case of trolling is to get a reaction. People really need to start learning that the Internet is the real world and if you are not careful enough to ensure you are only sharing stuff with people you know you need to learn your actions and stupidity will have consequences. Before the Internet you may have ended up with a broken nose from big bloke in pub. Now you end up with a media circus and death threats from strangers all over the country which the police then have to waste valuable time investigating.

I totally agree with what your saying. I have no problem with the police advising someone not to make silly remarks on twitter etc. The line is crossed when it becomes a criminal offence. Anyone should be allowed to express an opinion without the threat of being imprisoned, no matter how distasteful or in bad time it may be. This doesn't mean the police cannot advise individuals to behave differently but it would mean that your freedom of speech is protected.

  12. just remembered that female troller who abused the M'canns recently. once sky news were round her house asking akward questions she went and killed herself.

that is the sort of immature people that are behind these posts. Sick anti social people that stay locked up and never interact with anyone. Be nice to see sky chase up these muppets and stick them on tv.

like i said previously. Get them round to meet the families and friends of the loved ones that died and see how quickly those hard man comments will disappear.

The tweet was clearly a joke though. I am sure if your trawl through this forum you will find jokes about many repulsive stuff and a hell of a lot of necrophilia jokes. You can't compare this sort of thing with personal direct abuse towards something. They are one of two totally different things.

  13. Having caused myself plenty of grief with past Internet posts I eventually adopted the attitude of 'if I wouldn't shout it out loud in a room full of strangers then I won't stick it on a public forum/ social media.  Personally fed up of twitter and people's attitude when they get behind a keyboard and their ignorance or reluctance that every action you do will have a consequenc be it positive or negative. However the media doesn't need to report such things as Internet trolling of tragic events but of course chooses to on occasion so as to prolong the story. Fairly sure the cops would just want to tell him he's a wee dick and make sure he doesn't do it again but whether or not they are under media pressure to make an example will affect the outcome

The thing is it's not about what's said at what time. The idea behind this is freedom of speech. There is a lot of things that I don't believe or I  wish weren't said but I don't want it to be illegal to say them.

  14. You really should not be arrested for anything bar blackmail or sustained direct threatening or harassing behavior. Anything else means that thoughts outside of the main sphere of thought will start becoming illegal.

  15. unfortunately too many other wee teams that are celtic / rangers minded allow them to win the leagues by lying down to them.

the biggest gamble ever would be to get all the teams outwith the old fucks to kick them both out of scottish fitba and maybe then competition would get the crowds back

Or it could be that Celtic's turnover is in the region of 10 to 50 times the size of their competitors...

  16. But it really couldn't have happened to a more disgusting club. It's fantastic how in one fell swoop it fucked both the ugly cheeks. The longer Rangers are away from being a competitive force(which looks like it will be some time) the less enjoyment Celtic will have from romping the league every year. This whole situation is like a dream come true to fans who were around when Sutton, Flo, Ricksen. Hartson, etc. went around taking the piss at their stadiums. It couldn't have gone better. The OF irrelevant now on a global scale and Rangers convincingly losing to QofS and not that surprising with Celtic trying hard to compete with run of the mill European sides. Compared to the early 00s this is just fantastic. Celtic might win the league, they might even win the treble, but it will mean nothing to them. Winning tomorrow will mean more than anything Celtic can do this season. This is a fantastic time to be a Scottish football fan.
