  1.   It could be argued that Chris Anderson and Dick Donald failed to sufficiently capatilise on our success in the 80s, thus laying the foundations for our inevitable downturn.  Letting Ian Donald take over merely exacerbated the problem

I'm sure Chris would have made sure we were in a far better position if he hadn't been struck down with motor neurone in 1984. He was one of the visionary driving forces at AFC, tragically lost way too early.

  2. Nothing melting.......the nice big server is handling the praise for JC well.

"Outschooled" is "slang" boxing terminology, but appears to be slipping more into other sports. Kids these days..... ::)

Disappointing result today. I don't suppose there are any positives.

  3. The bid which Killie had knocked back was £150k plus add-ons, and Linfield still saw that as falling short of their valuation.

He does sound promising, and some of the recent transfers from RoI/NI to the SPL and Premiership have shown that the quality over there isn't as shabby as many over here like to think it is. However, we had our chance to get this lad a couple of years ago and didn't take the opportunity: I doubt we'll be back in for him again, given the asking price Linfield seem to be setting. I'd like to see us take a risk on him, but I don't think the board would sanction a £300k-500k (who knows?) gamble on a player from over the Irish Sea, and I think I'd be inclined to agree with them (at that price).

Where are you getting these figures from? Sounds like Kilmarnock bid around £70k for him which was rejected.

  4. Fantastic result - probably the best in the clubs recent history, because we showed fight and took the game to them and didnt sit back and wait for a pasting.

why was the same approach not take in the away leg!

    In every game???  :hammer:

  5. That was a really odd comment by Willie Miller about the management team. I think everyone took it the same way though.  ::)

It was unfortunate that certain games this weekend are still very important meaning that Fergie, Strachan, McGhee, McLeish and Watson couldn't be there. But still a fantastic turnout. A night like last night was absolutely unmissable.

I didn't realise Donny Munro was an Aberdeen fan, as he's from Skye, but went to colledge in Aberdeen. Loch Lomond was brilliant at the end.

Has anyone has a transcript of what JC said on the big screen, cos I couldn't understand half of it.  :hammer:

  6. That was a fantastically brilliant night. We had Bryan Gunn at our table, absolute gent, got absolutely hammered too and fell off the stage at the end taking the big vinyl banner down with him. Said he was starting a new role as a scout for Norwich next season so I helpfully tipped him off about an exciting prospect called Darren Mackie.

Willie Miller said he wasn't sure if Calderwood, Nicholl and Clark would be present for the Man Utd friendly as they might be "taking a long walk". Dunno what he meant by that....

Highlight of the evening was Neale Cooper invading the stage while Willie Miller was talking to Richard Gordon and entertaining the crowd to alcohol fuelled stories filled with obscenities, which included Fergie impressions, a story about Hewitt catching him wanking, his ex-wife kept a nice clean house apparently, and when Fergie took them to Egypt, he thought it was a shithole and camels were all queuing up to ride Jim Leighton.

Only lowlights was them basically forcing everyone to pay £10 to enter a prize draw where the only prize was tickets to the Man Utd friendly. Also, the Gothenburg Greats painting print, £75 for the normal picture, a whopping £400 for a signed one. When the players are all already there signing autographs for everyone, it seems a bit shitty to charge an extra £325 for a signed picture.

If tomorrow night is anything like tonight, it'll be a hell of a lot of fun.

Absolutely fantastic night. No way would I have missed that. Just superb. Didn't really like the "original" painting, but an original is an original and it was signed, but couldn't justify paying more than two grand for it. Funny how the bidding goes through the roof after several shandies!!! Some of the auctioned items went for silly money.

Neale Cooper was just superb, very very funny. The place was in stitches. Also Donny Munro, who I didn't even realise was an Aberdeen fan, doing a few special numbers, especially Loch Lomond was bang on.

Oh, and JC and company are about to be sacked!!!

Great evening......I wouldn't have missed it for the World.

  7. After being in edinburgh for 4 years now and having settled rather nicely into a rolling rota at work, I feel I can easily manage to get up to Aberdeen to make it worthwhile.  I hivnae had a season ticket before as Ive always had to work weekends and could never gaurantee to get to enough games. Although for a couple of years I probably should have.  I spent a fortune paying at the gate!!

What are folks thoughts on where the better seats are and why. Is it down to atmosphere, views of the pitch. Proximity to exits?

South Stand. Best view, best value, best niggle with away fans, not bad atmosphere at times. Main stand, too old-fogie-ish, and no atmosphere. And if I can get the choice I prefer not to be behind the goals.

  8.

George Burley and Donnie Munro?   :hammer:

What's up with George Burley? He's the only reason I'm going. I have absolutely fuck all interest in seeing the players and hearing their views, the dinner, hearing the various other "celebrity" speakers, the booze, catching up with mates, and just about everything else to celebrate a wonderful night 25 years ago.  :hammer:

  9. I'll be recovering from a hangover after watching us win 5-0 the day before.

No plans to do anything special.  Hey, it was nice but I was only 2 at the time and it made no significant impact on me.  Just a nice pot to look at really and useful for getting it right up other teams.

There is a bit of the Lisbon Lions syndrome with regards to how much we milk it.

(I have no problem with the Lisbon Lions......good luck to them)

To those who witnessed our triumph, it will be never just a nice pot. That whole season was a phenomenal time for AFC, one which really doesn't seem 25 years ago, and should never be forgotten. We'll never have that again, so I have no problem enjoying a wee bit of nostalgia on Sunday.

I'll be at the "do" on Friday in Aberdeen.....can't wait.  ;D

  10. Just to toss another permutation into the hat here, if Motherwell get a point from the huns tonight and then UTD get a draw at Ibrox on Saturday due to the huns running out of steam. Then Celtic beat Hibs on the Sunday then Celtic would be 8 points clear. Then huns beat St Mirren but Motherwell get a draw against the huns in the next game then going into the last game we could still get 3rd but the huns couldn't win the league as they would be 4 points behind Celtic with one game to play...I think  8)

Ajja......impressive arithmetical prowess and dedication. If you get fucked off selling bikes, there is a position available.  ;)

  11. Wise up, there's not a defence in the SPL that puts the "fear of God into an attack minded team".

The only one that'd come close would be Rangers imo.

Besides if we were to actually come out and attack teams and changed our approach to games (especially away from home) then we wouldn't have to rely on the defence as much.

    Wise up?  ;D

It takes a very good three man defence to be water tight. Diamond Touzani and 1 other wouldn't be good enough to run that even with the equivalent of Simpson , Cooper, Strachan etc in front of them.

  12.

DOOM DOOM DOOM DOOM DOOM... why don't you go back to kkk?

    No. You're right. I agree.

There are more than two sides to schizophrenia, neither of which are treatable with drugs.

      :hammer:

Who would you suppose would be an efficient goal tight three out of who we have at present? We've been fairly leaky all season with four!
