  1. Paul's a good guy - he does mention the dons as much as possible on his show, playing the European song as much as he can get away with as well.

Mentioning he was a Dandy while on stage at Hogmanay was probably not his best move ever though!

Football tops on chicks never has done it for me though - just seems slightly on the gay side - a bit like the scene in scary movie!

AS for celeb fans - Myself, TAKFT's son and Jim Leishman should all get mentions for appearing in the Sky advert for Wednesday's Game!

  2. Firstly i'd abolish the saturday 3-5 tv blackout and sell it to the highest bidder.  I think this would make up for any loses made from only hosting the OF once a season when i extend the league to 18 teams.

Secondly i like the idea of Kelt's East/West coast conferences except, i'd still have one league just the east play each other 3 times and the west teams play each other 3 times and the crossover of east/west teams play each other twice.  Similar to the NBA set up.  So games within conference set up = 24 plus cross conference games 18 = 42 league games.  The aggregate scoreline between the teams of the 1st 2 games decides who gets the home game.

Thirdly remove the league cup - it's pish and worthless (even if it's a good day out!).  Play league games in it's place - so those not involved in europe are also playing midweek and schedule them properly i.e. not have aberdeen v killie midweek but play the arabs etc.

Fourthly insist on better coverage.  The current tv coverage is rank rotten and is only harming the game.

Finally, ban all youth football from taking place at the same time as the Local game.  I.e. if aberdeen play at 3 on sat no youth football can take place at the same time.  Games must finish at 2 or be played on sunday.

  3. I've watched the lot.

Season one gets better, season two is a wee bit slow but 3-5 is an absolute rampage.

I agree completely.  Watched all 5 series in about a month and it really is superb.

Heard it desrcibed as a very good book which i can completely rlate to.  Series 1 draws you in then totally hooks you after around episode 8.  THe second series is like the info building chapter and after that it's sheer genius.  Was whistiling Omar's calling card for months.

Geenration Kill by the same writers in currently on FX and is also a pretty good watch.

  4. Just finished Brutal Art - Jesse Kellerman not a bad read

A Damned United is just ok - i will be checking out the film however.

Bought two new bookcases so while transferring over from new to old found some tremednous books i've bought and buried for reading later - good times.

Just finished Gold by Dan Rhodes - not as good as Timoleon Vieta Come Home but still worth the read.

And as the Aye Write festival is in full swing in the office i've been handed James Kelman - Kieron Smith Boy and Mark Mcnay - Under Control to read.  If there any good i'll get the other four on the shortlist.

  5. so are you saying that you've identified someone who could do a job for us then?  and drop who?

The point is no matter what happens calderwood get the blame.

We get good news on the youth front - and a snidey comment about calderwood never playing them.

You want a competitive team but you want try untested youth as well - which is it?

  6. Great to see - finally some movment from the youngsters!

Shame half of them will never get the chance to play for the 1st team despite being better then the likes of foster, mackie etc.

if we just had some fans who wouldn't ask for the managers head after a freak result or two we might actually get to bleed some of them in!

  7. The last two were up there with his best.  However rankin's new one without rebus is not really up to much at all.

Just finished Firkin, about a book reading rat, it's tremendous.

Just finished books on baseball and american footbal both by john Feinstein and currently awaiting two on college basketball.

Currently reading Gommarah, on the commute, which is quite good, very detailed and might check out the film, The Lone Samurai: The Life of Miyamoto Musashi in bed and Chuck Liddell bio on the commode!

  8. thought it was a typical Lee miller performance.  Played well looked good, but to what end?  Should have scored, won lots of balls but ultimalety couldn't create that goal.

Hopefully will score on Saturday though

  9. In or Oot: In

    Pre-matcher: Red Lion

    Location: Sooth stand

    Half-timer: pie n mars bar

Post-matcher: red lion, illicit still, ma camerons, wild boar, the grill, the short mile, geldie, westhill hotel (maybe not in that order) ;)

  10. I just finished Christopher Brookmyre, one fine day in the middle of the night. He's a laugh out loud author and I'll be reading the rest of his work ASAP.

if you liked this try.... Carl Hiassen, a better, american version.  Or Colin Batemen, an Irish version of similar quality

  11. right now it's got to be the fans.  3 or 4 games short of being a classic season, last season shows that the management knows what it's doing in the main.  Yes it's a shocking start to the season at home but only a win away from 3rd place and 5 points from 2nd place hearts means that there is a long long way to go.

The defence looks more comfortable than last season.  we simply aren't performing up front yet.  I'm not overly bothered yet as we do have a new midfield.  Calderwood's team have never been quick starters, yet usually come together.  Patience is what is needed.

  12. again i thought the defensive back 5 looked solid defensively, even foster.  got to include kerr in that back 5.  we didn't seem like conceding until we went gung-ho towards the end.

but the thing that confuses me most was calderwoods tactics.  Did he look at past united games during the week and say "wow they've got two big donkeys at the back who win everything in the air and seem to get undone by teams who play small wee guys who play football.  Maybe i should confuse them and play two target men upfront and continually instruct my team to pump high balls at them.  no-one would ever think of that"

surely he didn't send his team out like that?
