  1. Perhaps. I don't see why that's the TV Crew's fault, though.

If you could see the setup in that place for a match, you'd understand. There just isn't the time to be faffing about with mics so that they're away from the away fans. And far too much cabling involved.

If a mic goes down, do you think the sound manager wants to be trawling over and up to the RDS, or does he want the mic to be infront of him up in the gantry to be easily fixed?

  2. It appears to me that us board/bored users have all the answers to our problems, but are we actually doing enough (anything?) about it other than bitching and moaning on t'interweb?

It's the same stuff that keeps getting mentioned on the boards but nothing or nobody does anything about it.  The fans on the continent are quick enough to voice their opinions, be that staged walk-outs or by boycotting games.  Whereas we all piss and moan about the same things week in, week out without actually doing anything constructive about it (maybe we just enjoy a good moan?)

Now I'm not talking about doing anything to financially hurt the club as they seem to be doing pretty well on that front, but I thought we could be a bit more constructive and list some decent pointers for them.

Doesn't have to be anything ground breaking, just something which you think would make your AFC experience a little better.  Obviously we all want to sign Messi but it's not going to happen, so probably the simplier ideas will have more chance (if any) of getting some sort of response.

If we get a decent response I'll clean it up and send it onto the club.  I'll start off with a few and feel free to add......

    1.  4-4-2.

    2.  TV microphones placed in front of the RDS instead of away (OF) fans.

    3.  'Team of the Decade' / old games / season reviews on DVD.

    4.  If the EE has nothing nice to say, then they don't get to say it.

    5.

    6.

    7.

Wow wow wow. As a cameraman who films football myself, i can categorically say that the BBC and Setanta have much better and pressing matters to attend to on match day than running cable or setting up wireless mics all the way from the gantry to the RDS.

The gantry is in the south stand, so that's where the mics have got to be

  3. Agree with everything said here. The Bavarians treated us so well when we were over there. I had it in my head that the germans were quiet and unsociable, but my god was i wrong. Absolutely stunning place, and would go back in an instant.

A week I will never forget.

Thanks Aberdeen, and most of all thanks Munich for being such great hosts

  4. Guys, it's on pro7 (pro Sieben) so if you phone ahead and ask before you go out, you'll be fine.

You could also head to B&Q, buy a sat scanner for a couple of quid, attatch it to your own Sky dish and move it to 19e to get the channel at home, but that's maybe pushing it....

    ....But it IS possible

  5. If you can find one clip of any of the '83 squad swiping at fresh air, tripping over themselves, controlling the ball into the stand, shooting out for a throw in or letting the ball roll under their feet then I'll buy you a German brewery of your choosing.

    ;D Point well made

TO say there isn't much difference between our current side and our 83 side is hilarious!

  6. Look at this pic, and compare the quality with what we have now. Very very sad.

    It's depressing, isn't it.

We had some team back then. Remarkable, really.

But to be honest, we should just be glad that we actually have had a team like that... Something which many teams these days can never lay claim to.

  7. I know the running joke is that Calderwood scrapped the scouting network at Pittodrie to take it all on between the 2 Jimmys and Sandy Clark. Is this actually true?

Reason I ask is that over the last few seasons there have been a number of lower league players in Scotland snapped up by other teams but never by AFC.

    Rankin and Cowie- ICT

    Grainger/Buaben/Gomis/Swanson/Conway- United

    Frazer Wright/Willie Gibson/ Koudou- Killie

    Templeman- Hearts

A lot of these players could have been brought in cheaply and could have either improved the side or been good squad players. Surely the club could inverst some of the cash they have been making back into a few scouts??

    It is 100% true

  8. 1. Mizer

    2. Glasgow Sheep (at last)

    3. Chimp

    4. Kowalski

    5-7. Jimmy Jimmy +2

    8-10. Edinburghdon + 2

    11. Tenement Funster - now subject to miraculous recovery

    12. Sheep #1

    13. Disco

    14. Stoner

    15. Linds

    16. Ecosse1

    17. Stewart

    18. Penfold

    19. Padre

    20-25. Nig + 5

    26-28. Dave min + 2

    29-29. Wazzamatazz + 1 AFC2

    31. The Doricle  Permission received to leave the missus and bairn again (unbelievably!)

    32-33. topcorner + 1

    34-35. stonefish100 +1

    73. BTR

    74-75. Roboafc +1

    76. Jagerdeen

    77-78. Simmy & Cooper

  9. Morons. Absolute fucking morons. So what if he doesn't want to stay here? Most of them didn't want him in the first place.

It's halfwits like these that give the West Coast Media all the ammunition they need.

This. Even if it's in jest, which i don't think it is, it's highly inappropriate

  10. I couldn't resist looking. It's like a car crash in there!

Stoney - Hertha qualified from one of the best leagues in the world ergo could be called one of the worlds greatest teams.

Stoney - Bayern are only in the Uefa cup, ergo they aren't that good. :rofl2:

    Unreal, eh!

    Place is a joke!

    AFC-Chat, now....

  11. Surely Pittodrie can decide where the microphones are placed in the stadium. I would've thought, in the interest of showing up how good an atmosphere Pittodrie CAN be, that the mics should be positioned on the Upper RDS and on the South Stand from Sections S to Y. Why position these mics above what is (Old Firm aside) always a sparsely-populated away crowd.

AFC have absolutely no say whatsoever where the mics are to be placed, unfortunately.

They are placed around the field of play and up in the gantry for crowd noise, so at an OF match they will be pointing at the OF fans so they are generally the only people you'll hear. Despite this, the atmosphere at the rangers game was rank anyway so it wouldn't have picked up much if it was pointed at the RDS.

Oh, and many of the mics are boom mikes; they're connected via cable to a hub. Just isn't viable to have them stretched all the way up to the RDS Upper so people on the telly can hear some fans sing.

Much easier and simpler to have them placed where the cameras and commentry team are, which is in the South Stand gantry.

But no, AFC have no say where the mics go
