  1. After that draw, maybe it will be a blessing in disguise whoever loses our tie. I don't think Dyche will fancy a trip to Turkey just 3 days before the first PL game at Southampton. The Turks have some star names in their squad (Adebayor, Clichy etc) but many of them are at the veteran stage and certainly won't match Burnley in terms of fitness. Obviously, I'd like to make the group stages, but UEFA seem to be making it hard as possible for both Aberdeen & Burnley.
  2. Weird that West Brom used all their players except one - Craig Dawson. Dawson was an unused sub after putting in a transfer request and "going on strike" after Burnley put in a £25 million bid (rejected) for him and Rodriguez. We lost 1-0 at home to WBA last season and won 2-1 away.
  3. Burnley are short at CH....if McKenna has two good Europa games, Dyche might try to sign him up!!
  4. Burnley played two behind-closed-doors friendly matches yesterday. Two different XIs at home to League One (third level) opponents. Lost 2-0 to Blackpool; and lost 1-0 to Shrewsbury. Hardly encouraging.
  5. Hi again, everyone - not long to go now and both clubs seem to be struggling to sign up new recruits in time for next Thursday's first leg. What's the latest on the Gleeson injury? Will he make it for next week or the second leg? You should be buoyed by the news that our two most creative and skilful players (Steven Defour & Robbie Brady) are very unlikely to feature in either match. Both are coming back after long-term injury and Dyche has said the pair will not be risked. It means we will probably have a very functional but unexciting central midfield pairing of Jack Cork and Ashley Westwood. Hard-working but not many (if any) defence-splitting passes from that pair. The next few days could be interesting for both clubs (in terms of new players).
  6. Hello All, Another Burnley fan beginning to look forward to the two games after initially being "underwhelmed" by the draw. Not bothered about location, but I fancied an easier game against weaker part-time opposition from Liechtenstein, Luxembourg, Andorra, San Marino etc. I don't want to give an opinion on the relative strengths of the EPL v SPL but I think the bookies will probably have us as favourites to progress. In recent years, we have won 2 pre-season games against Rangers at Ibrox, but Burnley's last competitive fixture against Scottish opposition was just short of 40 years ago when we were massive underdogs against Celtic in the Anglo-Scottish Cup. In 1978/79 Burnley were a skint mid-table second-tier team but - maybe quite a lot of you already know - upset the odds with a 1-0 home win in the now "infamous" first leg followed by a memorable 2-1 victory at Parkhead. There's loads of stuff on Google (especially the riot at the Turf Moor game) but I found this interesting link. www.rocksportradio.co.uk/burnley-face-dons-with-memories-of-celtic/ Another link: www.heraldscotland.com/news/11911386.Trip-to-the-red-rose-county-remembered-for-the-wrong-reasons/
