  1. First game I recall, not first game I was lifted over the turnstile, was UEFA cup match v RWD Molenbeek. We lost 2-1. Think it was my first midweek match at the age of 8. It was also the first time that my old man and his mate left me in the car while they went in to the Caley golf club for 3 pints before driving home about half past ten. I was given a glass bottle of coke and a straw, bag of crisps and the match day programme, and told not to tell my mother or I wouldn't get back to a Wednesday game. Seemed a fair trade in those days...
  2. Think it is fair to say most of us had never heard of the guy before he signed, but has proved to be steady and very competent. Doesn't get in a flap but will have a go at the defence when required. Hope the guys along from me in the Merkland can get a song going for him, well deserved. Would happily extend his deal at Christmas if he continues like this
  3. Maddison is getting a lot of leeway for errors too, which is great as it means he's trying lots of different things. He plays as if the pressure is off him, which it is to an extent (he secured that in his first few games) Reminds me of Jess, Zero and Strachan- players that were given more leeway than others to make mistakes, as they could create things out of nothing. Can't see McLean getting the same leeway unfortunately, shame as still rate the guy as being a very clever player, just needs a couple of big performances to win over a section of the support after a fairly indifferent start to the season
  4. Agree that you can't coach intuition, but you can coach players to be more effective. Maddison doesn't need to be here to do that, but can only help if he is involved with some of the younger players who are around the same age as him. My comment on Wright was based on the fact he has the ball skills, but admitted he may be lacking on the decision making side. Physically not strong enough, but could be a player to unlock defences if given a chance. Those that have watched the young team may have more insight than me, but McLennan may also be a prospect. Unless we start playing these guys, for more than the last 5 minutes, we won't know how good they are
  5. First post on Donstalk, long time lurker on mad with only a few posts on there. Don't think we will be able to keep Madison beyond January, but I hope Derek is getting him to work with Scott Wright. Remember watching Wright against Brighton in clangers testimonial playing behind main striker and he caused havoc. He has fast feet, loves to be on the ball. Key thing for me would be decision making, when to run with it or when to pass. Dropping off and finding space when not on the ball can be coached also. The last few games when he has had a sniff he has played out wide, which may end up being his position, but feel he is too easily brushed off the ball. We have Hayes, McGinn, Burns, Storey that will all play out wide before Wright, just think he may provide a different option through the middle once Madison's loan spell ends.
