Aberdeen midfielder Derek Young has been ruled out for the next six weeks with a knee injury.

The 28-year-old has missed the last six games with the problem and is now unlikely to play again until mid-April.

"He got it against Celtic here and they've found out it's ligament damage in his knee," explained Dons manager Jimmy Calderwood.

"It's going to be six weeks at least which is a massive blow, because the lad has done really well this season."

Young was a surprise summer signing, with Calderwood bringing him back to Pittodrie after spells with Dunfermline, St Johnstone and Partick Thistle.

However, he has featured in 30 games this season, scoring three goals.

And this only a couple of days after we were told he may make the game on sunday. ???

  2. Hearts can "afford to pay" those kinds of wages.

I'm glad we can't/don't though the level of the board's aspirations and willingness to support the manager financially is without doubt questionable at best.

I would also doubt if Brown is on 20k per week but I guess you never know given the competition for his signature at the time.

Only for about 2 seasons when their turnover to wage ratio sits at 95% odds or there about.

But if this is true we should get Mackie on a £10K per week contract and get him punted for big bucks in the summer.

  3. Phone called made. £9.99 no strings. Bring on the Ethyl Mermans

Watching at home is actually quite good fun I found last week. Despite the wife coming through and saying 'remember we live in a flat' and 'you are scaring the children'  ;D More of that will do me.

If only you'd said, I could have saved you the £9.99.

That said, the return taxi fare would have probably cost that, so maybe things have worked out for the best...

  4. radio scotland said something about a shoe or shoelace being a problem

anyone shed any light on this?

On the Radio it said Khan has been ruled out due to sickness and their back up keeper injured his back tying his shoelace.  :rofl2:

41 yr old emergency keeper now supposed to be playing, we will have to get the ball into Bayern's half though to take advantage of this. :-\

  5. Right not sure if anyone is interested in a quick 15 mins of fame BUT a pal of mine who's a journalist is looking to do a story on the clash of Aberdeens biggest game in XX number of years with Valentine's Day and is looking for any Aberdeen fans brave enough to go on record about either how close to the divorce courts they now are or alternatively how they have got to get to go to the game.

If anyone fancies their name in the paper let me know and I'll pass on the details.

  6. I'm happy in the knowledge that before major European games JC has planned to have us play shite to fool visiting scouts, a la Motherwell before the Copenhagen game.

Expect a 4-0 pumping of Bayern.

Obviously after the Tims turn us over though. :(

  7. Hartson would be a waste of time for Aberdeen, one of his main talents was winning free kicks against defenders. Lee Miller plays in exactly the same way but gets only about a third of the number of fouls.

Difference is when Hartson won the fouls he was playing for one of the old firm, so if he signed for us he'd just be another Lee Miller and wouldn't get any of the decisions.

Or am I just being cynical? :-\

  8. Falls right in the middle of Edinburgh schools' Febuary half term so I'm not able to go!  >:(

Why should people at my work with children get priority for holidays at times like that? >:D

You'd think they'd want to be working when their children are off school so they don't have to spend time with them!! ;D

  9. http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/h/hibernian/7195200.stm

Former Hibernian manager John Collins has defended his time at Easter Road, and says he found it difficult to bring new players to the club.

"I looked at signing several leading Scottish players, but they were out of our wage structure," he told BBC Sport.

"I would have loved to have signed Steven Naismith, Barry Robson, Alan Gow and Jamie Smith, all of whom I admired, but it wasn't as easy as people think.........."

Heard this on the radio last night it appeared to be towards the end of last season when he made the enquiry. Nice to see it didn't go any further but begs the question of how much most of the Hibs players are actually on as he goes on to say.

"I wanted key players on better contracts like Steven Fletcher, and I told the chairman he deserved it, but the board stalled and that unsettled the player for a few weeks.

"He subsequently lost form and I didn't think the negative publicity was worth the sake of a few hundred pounds."

    Police officer arrested at match

A Grampian Police officer is to stand trial accused of disorderly conduct at a Scottish Cup football match.

Kenneth Burnett was arrested while off-duty during Falkirk's fourth round tie against Aberdeen on Saturday.

The 44-year-old from Ellon appeared from custody at Falkirk Sheriff Court on Monday.

He pleaded not guilty to conducting himself in a disorderly manner, shouting, swearing and committing a breach of the peace.

He was released on bail but told not to enter any Scottish football ground on match days.

He has not been suspended from duty by Grampian Police.

  11. Sounds like there was some disagreement between the Ultras and the Club so they decided not to display.  A few folk didn't go to the game but there was no boycott or walkout as far as I'm aware.  Don't know if there are any R.U.'s on here to comment?

A shame, as they add a lot to the atmosphere.  I know some folk like a dig at them but their displays can be rather good, and cost a lot of effort and expense.

I'm all for anything that adds to the atmosphere, and it wasn't too great on Sunday.

    :ultras:

Chick Young on the radio said he was approached by someone outside the ground who explained that people were boycotting the game and had returned their tickets.

Chick indicated he'd be happy to bring the incident to everyone's attention on the radio.

Didn't actually hear why though. ???

  12. Direct quotes from Severin in today's EE:

"There is absolutely nothing in the rumours that I am looking to leave Aberdeen.

"I have heard them myself and they gave me a laugh. I am here at Aberdeen for the remaining 18 months of my contract and aim to give it my all during that time.

"Qualifying for the last 32 of the UEFA Cup was a fantastic achievement.

"I will definitely be here to play against Bayern Munich in the next round."

So he's off in the summer of 2009!!!!!

    Where's that panic button? :o
